Help with Trader Joe's frozen chicken potstickers!
Help! I bought a bag of the frozen chicken potstickers from Trader Joe's and am unsure the best way to prepare. Anyone who makes them have suggestions? The bag says either pan fry or steam in the microwave, I would like to not add tons of oil if possible.
I got some potstickers from Sam's Club, and they came in ice... is that how yours are? I just put mine in a skillet and steamed them for 12 minutes. If yours didn't come in ice, maybe boil some water in a skillet and add the potstickers to that? They were super yummy!
I used to get those.. yummy.. Spray a little cooking spray or use a tiny bit of oil.. get the bottoms browned. Don't stir them. let them sit and get browned. Add a few tablesppons of liquid, cover and let steam for like 6-8 minutes

That's how I cook them. I haven't tried the TJ veggie ones yet, there's some in the freezer, but I do make some killer pot stickers from scratch!
I always add just a tiny bit of oil and brown the bottoms, then pour in about 1/4-1/2" of chicken broth, put on a tight lid and steam in the pan. Dont stir or move them. Get the oil hot before you add the stickers to the pan
When I cook frozen pot stickers, I boil or steam them until they are thoroughly heated. Then I add a little toasted sesame oil (you can also use olive oil, but I like the flavor the sesame oil adds) to a skillet and saute them until they are just starting to brown. You could steam them in the same skillet you use to saute them, just drain the extra water before adding the oil.
I also sometimes just boil them and eat them without sauteing them. They still taste good to me this way. But others in my house definitely prefer to have me saute them them with the sesame oil.
However I cook them, I drizzle a little soy sauce on them before eating them.
Im another for spray the pan and just a little bit of oil (really don't need much at all). Then after they are browned up a bit I add a little bit of water, or other liquid to steam them.
Thanks for the help everyone! They turned out great! I do think I didn't let the oil get quite hot enough, even with Ennay's warning, but next time I'll be ready!
Another way I use them is to make a Chinese-style soup. I use low sodium chicken broth, and cook grated carrot, sliced mushrooms, scallion, and diced red pepper in it. I add just a bit of white wine and soy sauce, then gently simmer some dumplings in the soup. I finish by stirring in a few handfuls of baby spinach, and its done. My kids love this! I sometimes throw in some chicken breast for more protein.
