I haven't been on this site for quite some time. After a frustrating year I have decided to try the South Beach diet. I broke my leg in January and already had insulin resistance prior to that. I have gone up and down with my weight since my late twenties but this is the worst its ever been. Breaking my leg and ankle has taken endless amounts of time and energy to come back from and I easily gained 20 pounds while laid up. The insulin resistance started about 4 years ago and I put on 50 over those years. SO now I am 70 pounds overweight and frustrated from not being able to take much action until now. South Beach it is. I have to break this insulin resistance which is truly one of the most evil things on the whole earth. I started last friday with an old trick i learned from LA weight loss. I used one of those hollywood miracle-like diet juice fasts which is similar to what they started you on LA with. You can have that and protein and green vegetable for the first two days. I came out of that down 8 pounds and have lost 6 more since by going low carb. Technically I am following SB. I am glad to be part of these 3FC boards again!!
Today has been the roughest day so far.

to The Beach! I moved your post so folks could get to know you.
This plan will certainly help you both lose weight and control the IR. Just remember that this is NOT a low carb diet - it's a good carb plan. Even in Phase I, we eat legumes and dairy. See the stickies in the FAQ section.
I shattered my leg three years ago and couldn't walk for 10 weeks, so I have great sympathy for you. I am still not totally recovered in some ways. I'm on day 3 and doing well. I hope SBD helps you!
Thanks for the warm welcome!! Wife2abadge, thanks for the sympathy as well. I broke my fibula and my ankle in two places and its been a ridiculously long recovery. so frustrating.
