Do we want to do a challenge?

Whee! As always, I feel kind of silly posting a "group idea", but since its something I want to do I'll go and get it started! :gossip:

Playing around the boards today I saw several "Thanksgiving Challenges", remembered doing one here last year, and how much it motivated me Now's the time to do one... and I know I have a (lofty!) goal to be back at 185 :goodscale . That, as I recall, was my goal last year, which I met early and then never lost any more!

Anyone with me?

~Fae

Marineswife85 09-15-2006 11:01 AM

I say an XMAS challenge would bw awesome. I know my goal is to be 200 by xmas, and maybe being part of a challenge would help me lol.

LockItUp 09-15-2006 11:38 AM

No way, I don't want to do no stinking challenge!

Oh, ok, I'm in. I don't know what my goal will be yet, because I think my original goal is unrealistic, especially because I have gained a few more pounds! So I want to see 139 by Thanksgiving.

denice81 09-15-2006 12:06 PM

Sure, why not? I'm going for my GW by X-mas, so maybe a nice halfway point by THanksgiving? I'm going for a 10 lb. loss to put me at 152 (Holy-Moley! Wouldn't that be some kind of dream come true?) I'm back counting WW points though, so its possible i suppose :)

dollypie 09-15-2006 12:13 PM

Sounds good to go, why don't we set Jan. 1, 2008 at our final date to keep us in check during the x-mas holidays.

britomart 09-15-2006 12:49 PM

I'm better off doing things in small chunks, so I'll go for a thanksgiving challenge (new year's is too far away!)! Let's see... Thanksgiving is 10 weeks away, so I'm going to aim for 175 by Thanksgiving. We're having a little family reunion thing this year, and last time my extended family saw me was 4 years ago (wow... that's a long time...), first year of university, when I was about 205. I'd love to make it a good 30 lb difference when I see them next!

FaeReverie 09-15-2006 01:08 PM

Hehe so a continuious holiday challenge... yay! No idea what I would set for a Yuletide weight... I'll probably figure that out closer to Thanksgiving, it's just too far away right now!

*jumps around all happy and hyper and stuff... for no real reason*

Marines - I know you can do it, lady! :) That goal is totally realistic.

Steph - My bum you're not doing a challenge! =P

Dolly - Don't you mean 2007? hehe.

Brit - I totally agree, which is why I wanted to do one. :) It's alot easier for me to focus on "I want to get to 185 by Thanksgiving" rather than "I want to get to 140 by this time next year"!

spillthebeans 09-15-2006 01:49 PM

LETS Do it- Great Idea!

Let's all contribute towards some type of reward...would that be possible?? Just throwing out another idea..

FaeReverie 09-15-2006 02:01 PM

interesting idea.. like what kind of things?

Dreamer85 09-15-2006 02:10 PM

I can do it, I think a Thankgiving Day Challenge would be fun!

Marineswife85 09-15-2006 02:47 PM

OK, well since most of you are for a thanksgiving challenge, im going to say i want to get down to 200 by thanksgiving, and then maybe 190 by Xmas.. Ill re-evaluate my goal come thanksgiving i guess hehe.

britomart 09-15-2006 03:04 PM

I like LockItUp's sig that calls this "Fae's Stinking Thanksgiving Challenge" ... While I haven't had any unpleasant sensory experiences regarding this challenge yet (get it? stinking? i'm being stupid/an english student), I like the idea of naming it something so that we stand out from all those other thanksgiving challengers! This is our challenge!

Anyone got ideas? Agree/disagree?

FaeReverie 09-15-2006 03:14 PM

Score! The challenge has been named (however temporarily) after me!

I'd like to thank the Academy.. :encore:

bida 09-15-2006 06:06 PM

175 = ipod nano = thanksgiving challenge!
:) anyone else have good rewards (other than a nice turkey dinner - which is not supposed to be a reward!)

well ideally - lets see - that could be 18 pounds - which would be like 170 - which would be awesome - I haven't weighted that little in a long time!

B

LaBonita 09-15-2006 07:05 PM

Hey all! I'm not new, but I haven't visited the site in a while. Maybe part of the reason why my weight has been slowly creeping up once again. I need to get down to it and lose this weight...I'm sick of being disgusted by my body. I'm ready to really do something about it. I'm taking a phys. ed. class at school, and we do circuit training (Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays). So that'll help out a little. Diet is going to be a struggle for me, but I'm going to succeed this time!

ANYWAY....I would like to join your Thanksgiving challenge! There's about 10 weeks from here until Thanksgiving, and I think a pound a week is pretty realistic for me. So my goal by Thanksgiving will be 140. I look forward to meeting all of you! :carrot:

(I'm Heather by the way...lol)

acire 09-16-2006 01:17 PM

I'm all for this!

Maybe we can do a main challenge of Thanksgiving and then another challenge for Christmas?!:carrot:

FaeReverie 09-16-2006 02:31 PM

Lol yea... at least, that's how it's usually done, if memory serves correctly. :)

Dreamer85 09-16-2006 02:33 PM

Yeah thats good... they are about a month apart typically... Good Luck Ladies

trnsfrmnreplace 09-17-2006 04:40 PM

Hahaha. This seems like a great idea!

I can post both up as soon as you girls figure out names for them.
I'll stick them on top as well. That way you'll have a thread to chat
in about the challenge and how everyone is doing.

Marineswife85 09-17-2006 05:16 PM

so what are the rules for the challenge going to be? There going to be weekly weigh ins and such?

FaeReverie 09-17-2006 07:25 PM

The way I remember them, there are weigh-ins, on your normal days... the major rule for both was to stick to your normal diet and exercise plan, with the goal to get to the goal weight by the declared holiday.

Hmmm.. names... I like the one named after me :). Im such a diva... seriously though, that's a thinker..

britomart 09-17-2006 09:10 PM

We could just call it Fae's Thanksgiving Challenge. Or "the 20-somethings Thanksgiving Challenege named after Fae". Or..... see, I'm not creative :)

Thanks for helping out, trns! Long time no see!

I'd say, for rules:
-Follow your normal diet and exercise plan.
-Weigh-in in this thread at your normal times, be it weekly or monthly or what have you.
-Post about any concerns about progress, get support, and keep going!

That's pretty basic, right?

Marineswife85 09-17-2006 09:16 PM

Maybe we should just call it the Thanksgiving Challenge.. Sweet and simple lol

britomart 09-17-2006 09:20 PM

Well I was hoping that we could differentiate it from other thanksgiving challenges going on.... so we'd be special..... not necessary though! :)

Marineswife85 09-17-2006 09:26 PM

lol i dunno im not very creative.

britomart 09-18-2006 09:14 AM

So, it's WI time for me..... Down a pound to 195 (change of -2). I also changed my Thanksgiving goal from 175 to 179.... while the first was totally doable if I am good the whole time, I need to leave room for being human. I'll be happy to just see 17- ANYTHING on the scale by the end of November! Then I'll be at the lowest I can actually remember myself weighing, and the rest is uncharted territory.... oooh, scary! :D (I can't wait!)

keeperofthehome4 09-18-2006 09:47 AM

I'd love to join in for the Thanksgiving challange. I'd like to be at 291.5 by Thanksgiving that's 10lbs so a 1lb for a week. Would be so awsome if I was at my first 10% by then which is 284.4.

FaeReverie 09-18-2006 10:22 AM

Ok, I'll make Monday my official weigh-in day... and so far, nothing. 205.... but this is because I havent really exercised, besides my normal walking between home and work. (Come on DVDs, GET HERE! :p) Hopefully, next week, I'll have better things to report.. and I know Brit, I will be so excited once the scale hits the 170's!

britomart 09-18-2006 11:56 AM

Mondays are kind of dangerous days to have WIs.... I used to do Mondays but then I could never keep myself on track during the weekends so weight on Mondays would be disastrous! Then I changed to Friday mornings, because I'm great during the week.... but then that just gave me an excuse to go wild on the weekends ("oh, I'll make up for it the rest of the week....")... Now I'm back to Mondays. If I'm going to get healthier, it's gotta be a 24-7 effort, you know? not a 24-5

This is kinda mean but I hope you're sore after your first run-thru of the push program. When I was going through it I was thinking how easy it was... they weren't really "pushing" me. Then the next day... owww! So I hope I'm not the only one :) Did you ask them to work a particular part of your body when you signed up? I asked for shoulders, thinking it'll help with posture (might have chosen back, actually).... and of course I got lots of push-ups! I hate push-ups!! Garrrr.....

Okay, done rambling :p

FaeReverie 09-18-2006 01:10 PM

Brit - no hard feelings, I swear! I dont mind feeling it.. when I was 10 (and 185 lbs) I took horseback riding lessons for a few months (before my mom stopped them because we "couldnt afford them"... I was devistated!) and I could feel the posting practice the next day when I first started! I can assure you I will feel it.. for the cardio I accidentally signed up for the kickboxing one, which is not one I wanted to do, due to bad past experiences with my knees and kickboxing dvds. I did specify to take it easy on my knees though, so Im hoping its not bad!

I asked to work my abs especially... that area is my worst spot! That probably means lots of crunches.. hah. Don't worry, I'll let you know as soon as I get them and start.. Im hoping they come today, so I can try it after work *fingers crossed*

britomart 09-18-2006 01:19 PM

yeah, kickboxing is kind of out for me too. In theory it looks fun.... but the high kicks do weird things to my hips. I usually don't have hip problems, but if I have to kick out to the side or behind me, my hips pop and it's very unpleasant! So much for the other two exercise DVDs I have, TurboJam and TaeBo... hence why I stick with walking.

Hopefully your DVD arrives soon -- it seems to be taking its merry time!!

trnsfrmnreplace 09-19-2006 10:02 AM

Name.... what about " Un-stuff me, Thanksgiving Day Challenge"

hahaha.

Marineswife85 09-19-2006 11:06 AM

haha i like that name

LaBonita 09-19-2006 02:36 PM

LOL...that's a cute name! Much better than the rest of the "Thanksgiving Challenge" names that are on the boards right now!

So far so good with everything. I didn't do so well yesterday because I didn't get enough sleep the night before, so I was craving junk all day...and then I ATE the junk. Today is much better though! I just tried some whole wheat toast with extra virgin olive oil instead of butter...delicious!! If there are any of you out there that haven't tried it, I recommend it! Healthier, AND it tastes better. :)

I hope everyone else is doing good. Are we going to have any rules for this challenge, or is it to just go with what you're already doing? I'm just starting my diet/fitness plan (but trust me, it's been started numerous times in the past)....so I don't know if there's a weigh-in day or if we check in every day to let everyone know how it's going and what-not...just let me know.

Enjoy the crisp fall weather, girls! (well, those of us that are experiencing Fall right now anyway)

britomart 09-19-2006 05:45 PM

haha, crisp fall weather? i'm so sweaty from my walk home from campus! I wish it were crisp! It's stupidly muggy right now. I wish it would rain and get it over with!!

I like your name, trns! So far you've got the best suggestion... any naysayers? :)

FaeReverie 09-19-2006 06:31 PM

Hehe I like it. :)

Yay!

trnsfrmnreplace 09-20-2006 01:41 AM

Or... "Ready to Un-stuff, Thanksgiving Day Challenge"

finallyready07 09-20-2006 04:55 PM

I want to join the challenge! I'm teetering between 149 and 150, so I would LOVE to be 140 by Thanksgiving. I've also banned fast food and fried food until Thanksgiving. Hopefully if I do my turbo jam faithfully, I'll make it :)

Good luck to everyone!!

CookieMonster416 09-20-2006 05:47 PM

You know what I always find funny, goals are made for a certain holiday or event. For example, Thanksgiving challenge. So we lose all of the weight just in time for a huge Thanksgiving feast? Anyone else find it ironic? Maybe you guys have more self control than me. Last year I ate, felt so full I had to go home and change to jeans that weren't so tight, and then went back to my aunt's house only to eat some more.

britomart 09-20-2006 07:16 PM

Ah, it is ironic, at least when it comes round to November/December holiday eating time. But look at it this way.... you reach your goal by Thanksgiving, you look at the buffet of food and think, do I want to spoil all that work I just did? Alternately, you make a goal for February or something, and think, well, I have three months to work it off... and eat all you want. I think it's better to have goals around the times we are most tempted, or there's no reason not to give in!!
