Unhappy Pasta Obsession!!!

Ok, I have a real problem! I'm a Pasta-holic....I could eat it every single meal, and not care...and I'm not good at portioning it at all! I've tried the Whole Wheat Pasta, and still eat it all the time, and I'm talking big plates full of the stuff, and I know that it is my weakness. I don't eat alot of bread, or potatoes, or stuff like that...just pasta!

Anyone have any suggestions on how to wean myself off from eating so much of it....

What I always do is serve an equal amount of veggies with my pasta, served right there in the sauce. For example, I make a pasta dish with my practically nonfat "cream" sauce, some grilled chicken, and a ton of lightly steamed veggies - broccoli, red and green bell peppers, zucchini, asparagus...whatever you have lying around. That way, there is a big portion of the dish, and its all coated in sauce like pasta, but the actual portion of the pasta is cut way down. You can get a good 2 cup serving of this without getting more than a single serving of pasta.

Try eating it with some meat. When you eat a meal that contains almost all carbohydrates without any protein or much fat it tends to end up making you more hungry in the end. Then you eat more...it's a vicious cycle! Eating pasta along is something that is "dangerous" for me also, I could eat my weight in it at every meal.

Sometimes to get a problem food under control it's good to try and cut it out for a bit and learn to live without it and then when you do have it truly only fix enough for one serving (and a real serving, weigh it or measure it before cooking). This doesn't help everyone, but it really helps some.

Eating any carbohydrate alone spikes your blood sugar, so when you add some other types of protein and fat containing food with it can help a lot. Give it a try.

I must admit, I also love pasta too, I could eat and have like u do, but wat I do is fill up my plate with salad or veg and put a small portion on top, eat together/mixing.
yum.. I think too much pasta hinders my WL.
I also make low cal healthy sauces, and have more sauce ratio to pasta.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone! I appreciate it! I know that the amount I eat of pasta contributes to my lack of weight loss....I eat WAYYYYYYYYY too much of it! It doesn't help that it's an easy thing to cook, and good for when I'm home by myself... but good grief...I need to expand my coooking abilities!

Haha I am right there with you Amanda...I am a carboholic...I joke that I am on the fatkins diet. All Carbs all the time! You know it really is true what they say though...the first two bites are the best. I know for me I could never deprive myself of pasta entirely but I can limit my portions. Try drinking a glass of water and eating a salad prior to eating your pasta...that will help you fill up quicker. Then all you have to do is listen to your body when it is full (I know eaiser said than done)

I do the veggie trick too..... I make my own sauce with LOTS of chunky veggies. Then you get this huge serving of what you think is pasta, but really it's only 1/2 pasta 1/2 veg!

What's not to love about pasta? You can throw anything on it, it's cheap, quick, and easy to make. It's also the perfect little companion to my other favorite food- pasta sauce! And completely addictive. I had to give it up cold turkey for a while (about 10 months). To tell you the truth (and this is just me), once I got over not having it I didn't want it very often. I was so pasta friendly that when I "quit", I found there were other random foods that I like even more- like red potatoes! I couldn't get enough of those. Anyway, I like Mandalinn's theory of "diluting" it with other veggies. Also, it's so easy to just dish out a plateful when it actually adds up to like 3 or 4 servings, so try to be careful about measuring out those portions.
