Ok, I am at my lowest ever weight and am having a hard time finding jeans that fit well.
My waist is a size bigger than my leg size and every pair of jeans that I try on always end up baggy in the leg which makes me look bigger and sloppy. Also, the short sizes always ride up when I sit down and show off my taste in colorful socks, but when I get the regular size the pant leg is too long and drags a little bit on the ground.
This may sound reaallly stupid, but, where do non-plus women shop?? I have never had the luxury of choice before and have no idea where to start.
Can you all help me? Where does one go to buy jeans? I can only really think of Old Navy and the Gap.
Charlotte, where abouts do you live? Are you in a big city? States/Canada?
I'm not sure what to tell you (although I'm sure a few people here will have some great advice ), but I do want to congratulate you on your loss! You are AMAZING, girl!!
I have a body shape too that's weird for jeans -- Compared to my belly, I have no hips. So jeans usually are really really baggy in the hips and then loose in the leg. The absolute BEST pair of jeans I've ever owned which looked awesome on me was a pair from the Gap, they were the stretch flare style. It hugged the places nothing else would!
I also think that boot-cut jeans tend to work for people who taper as you head towards their ankle. It's a straight leg, but comes in at some of the right places around your upper thighs. Again, my most comfortable one of these styles came from the Gap. (I actually don't shop at the Gap often -- I just had this one VERY fortuitous shopping trip three years ago!)
As for the length -- I usually get the regular size and hem them myself. The short is too short, regular is too long, and I hate having my pants drag on the ground behind me... So I hem them. That's it.
Just for giggles, you should check out the latest posting here: http://fattymcblog.blogspot.com/ because it's all about JEANS. I've always had good luck with the Gap, but I usually buy them second hand. Also, just going into a department store and grabbing one of all the 20+ types of jeans they have is a great way to figure out what you like.
Oh lord, that blog entry was totally classic. I do the squat as well.
As far as where to buy jeans, I always go to Target and Kohls because of price. They have a wide variety of sizes and brands, so that way you can usually find something that has the right combo of a size you like and the fit you like as well. Sad but true, sometimes a pair fits great but I won't buy it because of the size. It's so vain, but I just can't do it. I didn't care before I lost weight, but now for some reason I do!
Stephanie-I totally agree with you about NOT buying certain pants depending on the size. Ridiculous but now that I *can* wear a size 5/6 there's no way I want to try on size 9's at the store even if I know they would look good.
I find good deals on jeans at Ross, TJ Maxx etc but you have to be willing to look and try on a lot to find the right fit. I used to love Lerner/NY&Co jeans but now they tend not to fit properly. Good luck!
I wanted to mention: Express jeans used to be the best bet (they would fit anyone well) but they've changed their model, and now I find that they don't really flatter anyone. I'd like to second that the Gap Long and Lean are amazing (really comfortable and they flatter everyone- my sister is tiny and has a great butt, I've got a curvy middle and am not all that small, but they look great on both of us). Unfortunately they've stopped carrying them in the Gaps I've been in recently, I don't know if you can get them online. Good luck!
If you have a Levi's store near you, they have this thing that will tell you what size and which styles they have that will work for you. I've never tried it, but my brother loves it.
I wasn't clear if you said you have tried Gap yet or not but you may want to try it again. I wear the Curvy boot cut and they fit me perfectly...Just try a bunch of different places until you find the perfect pair...Sometimes it just takes a little trial and error.
DKNY jeans are sold at Macys....they have several different styles/lengths....I like the SOHO or lolita...the way the back is cut flatters the backside, not flattening it.
Thanks for all of your help and advice.
I just got the jeans that I ordered online from the Gap (my local store doesn't seem to carry these kinds). The long and lean ankle and the straight boot cut ankle seem to fit reallllly well and are v v comfy.
BTW: I can't shop at express--- I'm a size 15! Soon though, real soon.
