I was just tallying up for myself the types of fruits and veggies I had eaten this month to see what kind of variety and figured I would post it here. I am working on trying new things so maybe this will help me keep an eye on this.

Holy crap Liz! I think in November I had an apple, a bannana and corn at Thanksgiving (I'm sure that I'm being dramatic, but still). You're an animal, a fruit and veggie eating ANIMAL! <-------- Don't eat them!

Wow, that's an impressive list! I'm trying new things slowly, but I didn't eat nearly that variety last month. Way to go!

Wow! that's impresseive. I need to start eating more variety. My dad does the grocery shopping and I need to tell him to buy more fruits and veggies or I need to go buy them myself. You have motivated me to go shopping. Thanks. Good job, keep up the good work.

You're doing great w/ eating your fruits and veggies!

I don't know if you've tried this yet, but I had Spaghetti Squash for the first time in October and it was very tasty. You just bake it in the oven in a shallow covered dish w/ an inch or so of water and when it's done you scrape the insides out w/ a fork onto a serving dish....it ends up looking like strands of spaghetti, hence its name. It tastes a little more "squashy" than Butternut, but you can season it to better suit your tastes. Acorn Squash is good as well.

I like my butternut squash w/ a little bit of cinnamon....tastes heavenly.

I've only ever had edamame in veggie stir fries...how have you made it?

Great job, Liz! That is one very impressive list.

Ooo! I love spaghetti squash. It is some seriously tasty stuff! I like to season it with some garlic and red pepper.

I like fresh garlic w/ just about everything....it is sooooo good for you. I'll be the first to admit that I eat some weird combinations of foods...like ff refried black beans on my scrambled egg on whole wheat english muffin sandwich this morning....it is all healthy, though....I know, my tastebuds are so weird. I don't even like sweets, except for dark chocolate. My parents owned a candy/variety store in Philadelphia when I was 8/9 and I was the candy princess....I went to their store every day after school and ate almost every variety of candy known to man that year....as well as chips and popsicles and ice cream and water ice (nothing tastes as good as Philly's Famous water ice) and Ben Franklin pizza pretzels (again, best pretzels in the world). I was a candy connoisseur, to put it nicely. No wonder that was the year when skinny Jennifer became overweight Jennifer.

I was probably eating more out of loneliness (I never got to see my parents except for when I was at their store b/c they worked all day and night) and neglect than anything else....trying to fill a void the wrong way. Food could never make me happy....exercising, eating right, family, friends and truly living my life to the fullest make me happy.

The funny thing is that I can't stand candy anymore. I didn't even eat any candy for Halloween, not even a Reese's PB cup! We probably had about 10 lbs of candy in the house from trick-or-treating, too, so it's not like it wasn't all around me! I just don't enjoy sweets anymore....I'd rather eat fruit.

Sorry Liz! I went waaay off topic.

I like edamame. one of the FEW veggies I do. I just steam them then you pop them out to eat them. Or Coscto sells them in a box of like 8 2 serving packages that you just heat in the microwave. Very good.
I love fruit but I am NOT a veggie eater. I don't think I've EVER gotten 5 servings of veggies in a day! Maybe 5 a week

I buy the frozen edamame as well and just steam and pop...mmm they are very yummy.

Spaghetti squash sounds interesting...I may have to give that one a try. My boyfriend grew up eating all those squash, zucchini, spinach/bok choy stuff so I try to have him enlighten me. I looooooved the butternut...didn't even NEED seasoning.

It's great to have so much variety! Now I feel like I'm not the only one eating loads of veggies and fruits

Holy cow! Thats a lot of veggies and fruits! I really don't eat enough, in fact I've started sharing my son's baby food when I feed him! (only the fruit is good, though!)
Ok, that sounds weird, I know, but some of the fruits are really yummy!

Yay veggies! I love me some squash, but I have never had spaghetti squash before. My current favorite squash is buttercup, which is shaped kind of like a squashed pumpkin (ha ha, squashed) and is green-colored. It is orange inside and sweet, and is delicious if you bake it, then mash it up with some applesauce and raisins. Yummmm. In fact, I have one sitting in my kitchen right now waiting to be cooked!

At home BF and I try to get some variety, but we ended up with a few mishaps this year (we tried parsnips, which were kind of tasteless, and we tried a rutabaga, ugh!). My faves of the new veggies we tried this year are buttercup squash and wax beans! Watercress is pretty good too.

I grew up eating a multitude of veggies and whole grains (my parents were buying Organic and Whole foods at least 10 years ago...even before Fresh Fields was bought out by Whole Foods and organic became trendy), but unfortunately I also ate cake, cookies, candy, ice cream, etc. When I was 8 and my parents owned and operated their own corner store in Philly, they would get our food catered from an area restaurant for dinner most nights b/c they would work until 11 in the evening....or they would just give us a wad of cash and we would go out to a restaurant (can you imagine a group of children under the age of 13 at a restaurant w/o their parents?). Sometimes we would be at the store w/ them and they'd give us money to go across the street to the pizza parlor and get ourselves a slice of pizza or a whole pie, depending on who wanted what. Left to our own devices, we would invariably order the most unhealthy dish on the menu. Yes, you could say that I didn't have a traditional upbringing.

Bok Choy is another great veggie. I even liked it as a child. It goes really well in veggie stir fries. It's a good thing we have a good wok, b/c we have veggie stir fry at least 2x a week for dinner.

I just tried leeks for the first time! I found a really good recipe for low-fat potato-leek soup, so I braved a new recipe, too! I have to hide new things with things I already like. I tried spaghetti squash with regular spaghetti sauce (mmm) and you can throw frozen spinach in soups and tomato sauces/chili. And I've been eating spinach on my sandwiches instead of iceberg lettuce. I also fall into the fruit lover category, I could eat it all, but veggies are tricky...
