Arrow Calling ALL Allergy Sufferers....

Okay, I haven't posted for a few days now, know why? ALLERGIES! When my allergies get going it feels like I have a really bad case of the flu! Anyone else? This is so depressing...Jobe had to miss school yesterday because I was too ill to drive. Does anyone else on here have super debilitating allergies, and if so, are they really bad right now? What do you take? Have you found anything that really works?

I am a lucky one who has never suffered from allergies but my boyfriend gets them pretty bad and he takes Claritin and Visine-AC (I think). I try to be sympathetic but since I've never been through it, it's much too easy to say "suck it up and stop being a baby!" i try not to do that....

I get awful allergies but they usually don't kick in until December (weird right?). Last year they were really really bad because I developed an allergy to a pet in addition to the seasonal stuff. I went to an allergy doc and he prescribed Nasonex for me. It's a nasal spray you use everyday and I must say I love the stuff, it worked great. Also, if you don't want to go to the doctor, the only other thing that ever worked for me was anything OTC with Lortadine in it. I usually got the generic Lortadine from Rite Aid and it helped but not enough. My doc also prescribed Allegra-D and it did not work for me, I couldn't even tell I had taken it.

Hope you find something that works for you and feel better!

I finally broke down and am getting allergy shots - My worst allergies are cats, dogs and dust - all of which I have in abundance . I still have days that are not 100 %, but over all I am much better off than when I started a few months ago!

My allergies are basically all in my nose. When it gets to be allergy season, my nose gets completely stuffed (not runny, if I try to blow my nose nothing will come out) and I get sinus headaches. I take Flonase, which is the best thing ever for that.

I'd guess if you have major allergies allergy shots are probably the way to go though.

Try Claritin, it's over the counter now, so not so expensive. I even saw it on the shelf at the dollar store...give it a try. iT works best for allergies of this time of the year.

Thanks gals! Had to take Jobe to the pediatricians to get his ears checked (yep, another ear infection...so much for the tubes working) and he took pitty on me and wrote me a script for Zyrtek. I had tried...benadryl, claritin, claritin-d, various inhalers and nose sprays...etc...everything on the shelf. I even tried taking claritin-d and benadryl...to no avail. I just took the zyrtek about 5 minutes ago, so I'll keep you all apprised as to whether or not it works. Wish me luck!

Oh, and did y'all see my weight tracker? Allergies are good for a gals diet! Although I have been tracking everything I ate for the last few days, I have been eating whatever I want (pizza hut, wendys, etc) and it has been coming off! Maybe I'm blowing the pounds out of my nose

Allery shots are definitely the best......but I understand about not having insurance. I just went back to school and I'm not working anymore so I had to stop the shots. Nothing works for me except Tylenol Allergy Complete (used to be Tylenol Allergy and Sinus). I have tried it all........otc, prescriptions, home remedies.........but if you try them, I suggest taking them as soon as you feel your symptoms coming on. If you wait until you're in a full blown attack, they won't help. Good luck! I'm suffering right now with a sinus infection......it sucks!!!!
