I had a fall back on Saturday night, but I was completely okay with it. I ate grilled chicken and rice for lunch on Sat. For dinner I had an ice cream sandwhich (not worried about that, it's my calcium!!) and I had a co-worker get me some fries from McDonalds. Well, after I got done with work I stopped at Walmart and picked up a frozen pizza. I baked the pizza and ate it all around 9 pm. I regreted it as soon as I ate the last slice! But, it made me realize that I don't want to do that anymore, and I have said this before, but it felt different somehow. It was like a turning point. We had a pot luck at work on Sunday and I at good, I skipped the sweets and brought strawberries to pass instead. I was busy at work all weekend so I didn't get any extra walking in, I am going to go today though.

Welcome Sarah! I hope to see you around more, and much luck to you! :D
Hey Girlys! Good Morning, can't believe it's already August. I guess time flies when your having fun working out right? Well, I have to admit, I got way off track this weekend. The SBD went out the door. I went tubing down the guadalupe this weekend and drank lots of beer. I also did a ten mile trek around a nearby lake with the bf. So maybe that will make up for the bad eating and all the alcohol??? :s: Ladies, have a great week! |
Welcome Sarah! These are fun people, I'm sure you will fit in perfectly!
I don't have much time, since I am going on my first planned 20 minute walk break in a minute. I started scheduling them with my mom so we actually sneak in exercise while we gab. My poor mother has struggled with her weight her whole life. She eats so healthy and exercises a ton (like 40 mile bike rides every weekend in addition to her 5-10 mile daily rides!). She wants me to be healthy and not struggle like she has. We are eachother's motivation. :dizzy: I had a great weekend. We went camping. It was a lot of swimming and kayaking. When my family is cooking (whether home or camping) it is going to be healthy food. We had grilled salmon and veggies, turkey wraps, greek salad, and eggbeater veggie omelets. The only time I was naughty was the smores on both Friday and Saturday. You can't camp without smores though, right? Anyway, it was a weekend with no beer and no fast food, so that is a success for me. Add in the outdoor exercise we got in and the weekend was about as on track as one can be for me. Looks like everyone else is doing well, I'll have to catch up more later! |
Wow guys that's awesome! I always try and incorporate socializing with a form of exercise... shopping + outside mall = fun AND burning calories as I walk. I know what you guys mean about your moms being nervous about you struggling like they did. I LOVE my mom for making me so conscious about what I eat and the importance of exercise, but sometimes I think because she started me "worrying" at such a young age that it has made me a bit obsessive (more than most my friends at least). Well we survived yet another Manic Monday. See you on Turbulent Tuesday!

Hello! I found this online and it has helped me manage my caloric intake specific to my height, weight, and age. :D
Your BMR is the amount of energy your body needs to function. Step one is to calculate your BMR with the following formula: Women: BMR = 655 + (4.35 x weight in pounds) + (4.7 x height in inches) - (4.7 x age in years) Men: BMR = 66 + (6.23 x weight in pounds) + (12.7 x height in inches) - (6.8 x age in years) Step two: In order to incorporate activity into your daily caloric needs, do the following calculation: If you are sedentary : BMR x 1.2 If you are lightly active: BMR x 1.375 If you are moderately active (You exercise most days a week.): BMR x 1.55 If you are very active (You exercise daily.): BMR x 1.725 If you are extra active (You do hard labor or are in athletic training.): BMR x 1.9 In order to lose weight, you must create a calorie deficit. It is easier and healthier to cut back your calorie intake a little bit at a time. Every 3,500 calories is equivalent to 1 pound. If you cut back 500 calories a day, you will lose 1 pound per week. If you exercise to burn off 500 calories a day you will also lose 1 pound per week. Ideally, you should do a combination of both, (e.g. cut back 250 calories; burn an extra 250 calories). Maybe this can help some determine their target caloric intake! |
Hi all,
talking about moms -I wish I had a mom that was - well she is supportive there is no doubt. But she has been big my whole life - and has def been on most yo-yo diets out there - she did atkins for a while, but I think it messed her up a bit. (this was back when atkins was still alive, before it was a big hit, when she went to his dr's office). last year she did sb, and did lose lots of weight, but she never continued on it. But I guess she is still healthier. Her weight freaks me out and is prob what has in my later life made me a bit insane about my wieght. I mean she always supports me in my weight loss endeavors, I just wish she was better at it too. We can't say too much to her - or else she gets very defensive. as I am sure I am. I mean, I was put on a diet at 13 :) and then I went to a "fat camp" (did anyone here ever do that?) and what sux is I always have been a pretty active person, just a big active person. It is sooo hard for me to lose weight, and what it does come down to I am sure is the food I eat - which is hard, cause I enjoy food sooo much. but back to my former ramblings. I do somewhat blame my parents I guess for my wieght, I did not learn good eating habits from my mom, who would feed me fast food when my dad went away (lets say he was the cook, she def was not) and he went away on business a lot. And then I did not make wise decisions about eating growing up I guess. and there are only a few foods I hate - marmite is one. oh then prob veggiemite too :) though I have never attempted it. and I really am not into trying jellyfish - though I hear its all protein and low cals :) anyway I better get to the gym. get my endorphines running. my caloric deficient going. ;) good to hear camping was great she-mullet, and pizza was healthy (I also need to find some of that) paperclippy. and yeah on the now bf front megan. happy mondays! |
Sarah--those calculators never work for me. I always end up gaining when I eat the amount they say I should eat in order to lose. They're a bit too generic--doesn't take into account differences in hormones, muscle mass, type of exercise, and a whole laundry list of other things that makes us each unique. If it works for you, then heck, rock on!
Gotta stick hard core to plan today--I cheated last night and had a no sugar added pudding pop (60 calories). Not much of a cheat, but still not on my plan, so bad Jill! |
Morning girls!!! Shemullet, I love to camp! sounds like you had a blast! and tons of excercise! I couldnt do it without drinking because all of my friends drink! :dizzy: On the subject of moms... Mine is VERY supportive!! but shes also like 120 lbs, always has been. My sister and my brother and my mom are all the same size. TINY!! My mom looks like she is 26 yrs old, and she is 44. Not that its bad but... and I cant really blame my parents, my dad is bigger like me. But when I was younger I was sooo healthy and a swimmer, on a serious team. so I swam no less then 3 hours a day. Then I got asthma and was puton steriods, within 2 motnhs I gained 30 lbs. So in and out of the hospital from the age 4 - 15 on the steriods up and dpwn with weight, eating healthy. Being a on a strict diet..... alll in all My parents blame it on the roids, and in a way I do to. The doctor said I had to be on them though because my lungs were so weak. SO here I am now, dealing with over weightness. IM OK WITH IT THOUGH! when I elarned that, I then realized it was up to me to lose it!
OK sorry for rambling! anyhow, made it to the gym this morning, a little late, but thats ok. Turned in our jeep lsat night, Im gonna miss her!! :^: But i do love my new truck! <05 f-150> Hope everyone is having a WONDERFUL MORNING!! |
Wow, we're active this week! :) Welcome Sarah!
On the topic of moms, there was a thread a while back where I complained about mine. ;) My parents are supportive over the phone (I live on the other side of the country), for the most part, but always try to sabotage me in person. They are both overweight (my dad more than my mom) and love greasy fatty food and dessert (which is what I grew up on, LOL). Whenever my sister and I would come home for the holidays, my parents would complain we were fat, then take us out to eat almost every meal and feed us lots of desserts. Anyway, the good thing is that finally I think my parents have seen the light, at least somewhat. They are inspired by the fact that my sister and I have finally started trying to get healthier, and especially that I have been successful so far (my sister has been successful at the working out part, but not so much on the eating front, so while she is healthier, she hasn't lost at all). Anyway, my mom has started exercising, and has even talked my dad into walking some, so that's great! The only problem is every time I call home, my mom complains about how she hasn't lost any weight. Personally I think it's because she still hasn't got the healthy eating under control, but it's also age (she's 57) -- she blames it all on age! She has also been on thyroid medications most of her life, so that may be involved too. It would be great if my dad would work on his eating and lifestyle some too, since he has had hypertension as long as I can remember and was recently diagnosed as a borderline diabetic. Sorry for the book! Anyway, we'll see how things go when I finally go home for a few days at the end of this month (I haven't been home since December). I'm sure my eating will be a little out of control, but I'll try not to go too crazy. I am totally looking forward to eating all my favorite foods that I can't get here in Providence (like real good Mexican food!). |
JustForUs- We have an f150 too! It is huge but I like driving it. Makes me feel powerful!
Paperclippy - I think a lot of people make the mistake of just working out or just eating less and think that the pounds are going to fly off. I know I did. It has taken me almost 20 years to understand that pigging out was not a healthy reward for going to the gym! My mom is on thyroid medication too and she said that once she finally got the right dosage it was much easier for her to lose weight. Yum... mexican food.. |
Welcome SARAH!! sorry I missed your POST!! :( I love it to lizzie, I feel like Im the queen of the road! LOL I'll run over the little guys! heheh... Mexican food?? someone say mexican????????? :listen:
IM SUPER BORED AT WORK TODAY LADIES!! :^: thats why Im posting so much latly!! |
Happy Tuesday girls. Alright: MAJOR DILEMMA In Need: SUPPORT/MOTIVATION/CONFIDENCE/SUGGESTIONS/A WAY OUT(?)
Situation --> On Thursday it is our "intern farewell lunch" with the CEO so he is taking the 30 interns as well as many of our managers to Magiannos. He preordered a whole bunch of appetizers, entrees, and desserts (there is going to be sooo much food and no very healthy options... or so the returning interns have told me). What do I do?!?!? I can't NOT eat, but if I start eating I am scared it will turn into an all out binge, and I DON'T want to gain weight I have worked so hard and am doing so well... |
CookieMonster, can you have a small lunch before you go to the lunch? That way even if you try to binge, your stomach will not have enough room to fit too much bad stuff. The only other thing I can think of is to hope one of the appetizers is a salad, and stick to the salad. Maybe you can limit yourself to one plate of food, so that way you can still try all the yummy foods, but you know that once you finish that one plate, you are totally done. I'm so bad at giving advice on this because I have the same problem . . . I usually just account for it by eating less the rest of the week. :o
|
My advice for the luncheon is to eat a small lunch before you go out, drink A LOT of water (this makes me feel like I am full), and SOCIALIZE! If you spend most of your time talking and not eating, you'll leave the lunch without any guilt! ;) *Sarah*
|
I thought I would share advice I got from another thread on 3fatchicks.com with you girls since you said you have had similar experiences. I will save my "bread plate" and all non veggys will go on that small plate and I cannot refill it. Salad and vegetables can go on the big one (if not like sauteed/fried/with dressing, etc.) but the "unhealthy stuff" have to stay on the little plate (and maybe stay away from pasta?). And I'll have some raw carrtos before I go so I am not starving (my plan of attack). I am just nervous about appetizers and desserts.
