I just wanted to tell you congradulations for losing 70lbs. That is a huge accomplishment and I bet you feel like a new person. I am struggling with my weight which is 260lbs. How did you lose the weight>? I am new to this website so I don't know much about how everything works so I just wanted to say Hi.
  • Carmelita, I'm with you there. It feels like just yesterday I was 260! What is your goal weight? I have a long way to go myself, and I'm new here too ^_^ nice to meet you. What has worked for me is restricting calories. I was really really strict about it at first, and I was SO surprised at how MANY calories there are in things! I remember, there was this one burger at Carl's Junior I used to get--it's CHICKEN and SWISS CHEESE! I thought it'd be better for me! Once I started doing my research, I realized that that sandwich alone was almost 800 calories! Can you believe it?! I said "NO!" to fast food, and started counting calories, and trying to exercize at least 1/2 hour a day, every day, so it became routine. After awhile I started to just know what was good and what wasn't, without looking it up, and now the thought of fast food usually makes me queasy...though I do have relapses of longing for the McDonald's Bacon Egg and Cheese McMuffin...which weighs in at around 400 calories. Good luck, I hope to talk to you soon! (I've also found that soup is a good food--at least the broth based soups--you know, you can see through it. It fills you up, and there aren't that many calories! You can save them for a treat ^_^)
  • Hey Carmelita - I do feel like a new (smaller) person, and I've still got a ways to go and a lifetime to maintain a healthy weight. I've gone about all this diet business the old fashioned way: I eat less (I try to stick between 1200-1600 cals./day - though at a higher weight I was able to eat about 1600-2000 and still lose 2 lbs./week), I eat more fruits and veggies (I don't eat meat at all, but that's not a weight-loss thing, although I'm sure it's helped a little) and the real key I think is exercise. I think most people on this board would say that. You can splurge a little and make it up with a 20 min. walk later. Exercise boosts your metabolism, makes you feel energized, makes you healthier all by itself. I started out walking, then swimming, then jogging just a little while followed by walking, then jogging for about 20 mins., then running, and now (when fully practiced - I've been super-busy lately and probably couldn't run at full capability right now) I can run about 30 mins. at about 6 mph. so about 3 mis. I enjoy playing tennis with my fiance. I'm just more active.
Kamitwi's got it right - and look how far she's come! Wow!
Congrats to all of this weeks losers! I have a feeling my weigh-in will be pretty good -since I've gotten my wisdom teeth out, all I've eaten is fat-free pudding, low-fat yogurt and cottage cheese, sugar-free jello and applesauce, and diet soda and water. I managed to get in about 900 cals. yesterday, but you can only eat so much of that same stuff over and over again! And of course, no exercise for me until probably Monday!
