Default Motivation?!

Hi everyone,

What do you use to get you motivated? I went on from thing to thing...looking nice for the summer holidays/loosing weight in preparation for seeing 'christmas only relatives' at xmas/birthdays/graduations/peoples weddings and the list goes on but i always found a reason to quit on the one thing i was aiming for!

So whats your motivation thats working?

My motivation is trying to avoid health problems associated with extra weight. Also, I want to be in as quality health as possible because of pregnancies, etc. and I would be a better wife/mom *or feel/perform better*.

Tory, the only time you will stick with it is if you're doing it for yourself. I've tried doing it because I want to look good for another guy or to prove to others that I'm not a slob. I've had so many events/seasons that I've tried to loose for but I'm actually going for it now and yes, those reasons and many others are still on my list, but my main motivator is I miss what I looked like 5 years ago. I want to see me again. And I can feel my health & fitness declining. I don't like that. Why should I destroy myself? I have a motivation list I keep in my day planner that has a couple fitness goals, and other events/reasons why I want to lose, as well as a picture from 5 years ago. I also find that great motivation lies within this board. For me, hearing others' successes pumps me up. Stick with it girl!!!

Default Motivation

My motivation changes on a ongoing basis. For the most part I want to be healthy. I want to change for the better and no longer lead that lifestyle that I was once living. I want to have strength to go on a 10 mile hike. I want to be able to walk around the mall 5 times if I have to. I want to climb up 10 flights of stairs without having to pause . I just want to be a better me! Knowing that I am doing this for me is where I get my motivation. I have two legs and two arms and I'm going to use them to the best of my ability.

Whatever my motivation is, it seems to be AWOL this week. I've been a big blob for the last three days, just lying around like a cat, napping in big pools of sunlight (literally). Eating off-plan (but not *too* badly), not working out, etc. It's awful, and I feel so guilty. But at the same time I feel so laaaaaaazy. I haven't done half the things I wanted to accomplish this week.

I bought a model of 1lb of fat last week--it's a good visual motivator, but isn't getting me to the gym right now.

I get my motivation from lots of things. A big source of motivation right now is swimming suit season. I live right by the beach, and I absolutely love it! But, I never go to swim or layout because I hate how I look in a swimming suit. YUCK. So, seeing other people enjoying the beach to the fullest makes me want to join them. Other motivation: "fat" pictures, progress pictures (seeing how far I've come), higher level of fitness, muscle definition, looking good for ex-'s, looking good in clothes, being able to wear tank tops, shorts, etc., etc. etc. I think my motivation changes constantly, too, but all of it together keeps me going.

I don't know if this makes sense, but just losing the weight is my motivation - it's something I'm determined to do, not for any one reason really, but I said I would and I am and I will. If I didn't, I'd be giving up and that's not something I'm okay with. Sure, looking decent in my wedding photos and feeling comfortable in my body are motivators, but I don't think about those things when I'm staring a plate of cookies in the eye. I think about the promises I've made to myself.
