June Challenge!!!

OK everyone I haven't been on 3FC for that long but I feel like we need a June Challenge. If you are participating in any other challenges, feel free to join us here. ;) If you participated in last month's challenge then re-evaluate your goals and list them here; if you are new list whatever you would like to accomplish by 30.

Good Luck to All....
Rahael

I'll go first:
1) Eat atleast 26 and no more than 30pts a day
Eat atleast 5 servings of veggies and 3 of fruit each day
Only refined sugar comes from my 1/2 skinny cow a day

2) Three liters of water minimum each day

3) At the very least; 60 minutes of tae bo, 60 minutes of my
elliptical machine every day(db paid too much for it to waste it);
and abs and glutes tape atleast 2x a week

4) Not sure about weight goal...I'll just see what happens on June 30th

tonic 06-01-2003 05:38 PM

Ok June is a hectic month for me. I have 30 days to lose any last pounds before my big trip to Norway. But I am also going to be swamped with work and school because of my upcoming vacation. Plus parents are visiting. Insane. Oh and I think I gained another roommate (could be temp.. he is deciding if he wants to rent out our room or not)

So here are my goals:

1) Get to 145. I really really want to meet this goal. Its 3 1/2 pounds.. I can do this!
2) Exercise 5 days a week. I want 100% success on this.
3) Drink more water. Just in general.
4) Eat less carbs.

Ok. I *really* want this to be a successful month. So I am going to work hard and aim for 100% on these goals since I havent beaten a challenge in a few months.

Lobacal 06-01-2003 09:08 PM

I've committed myself to do a Sprint Triathlon. I started training for it yesterday.

But my goals for June are:

1. Keep a training log for the Tri
2. Drink at least 64 oz of water each day
3. Exercise 5-6 days a week

As far as weight loss goes, I'm not setting a goal for that this month, just waiting to see what happens.

Betty

Frisco'sMom 06-02-2003 07:44 AM

My June Goals are pretty much the same as May's, I just want to focus on completeing all of them 100% this time!

1. Walk 5x a week
2. Do AM strength training 6x
3. Do AM back exercises 7x
4. Take my vitamin 7x
5. Drink 8+ 16oz. bottles of water 7x
6. Do AM strength training 6x
7. Do PM back exercises 7x
8. Stick to Food Mover eating plan 6x

Two new Goals:

9. Bike 5 minutes, 5x a week (I really wanted a recumbant bike for Christmas because I heard they were good for lower back problems. But every time I've tried to go longer than 10 minutes, my back hurts. I'm hoping this goal will 1) get me in the habit and 2) get my back accustomed to the movement)

10. NO sugar/dessert-type food by itself. Must be consumed as real dessert after full meal.

I've been reading a bit and taking notice of how sugar affects my body. I noticed that it only really throws me off if I eat sweets as snacks or meal-replacements. It sends me down that craving, sugar high/low road where I just keep eating more and more because the "high" never lasts.

Well, that's it for now! Keep up the good work everyone!

June Goals

Okay so I didn't do so well on my May goals but it's a new month soooo I can start over :D

June Goals:

1. Drink 64 ounces of water each day

2. Get in 15 miles each week (no excuses)

3. Stay away from sweets (unless it's low-fat or non-fat)!!!!

4. Stretch at nightime

5. And the biggest of them all is to lose 5.5 pounds! I can do it!!! :cb:

Frisco'sMom 06-04-2003 07:40 AM

Killer week, nice capris!

This is a horrible week for me, and next week is not looking any kinder.

But the good news is I have stuck to my plan 100% and am determined to keep at it.

The scale said 137.5 this morning, but my new capris are speaking louder than any numbers, they're loose!

OK, "loose" might not be the word I want. How about, "breathable"? :dizzy:

I bought these a few months ago, and even though the size 12 felt a little tight (I was an 8 at Lerner's just a 1/2 hour before buying this pair!?!), I was going for a more polished look than my usual 3x too big fashion statement.

I have been very worried about buying clothes in the horror of putting the weight back on. But today I saw the other side of it - having a form fitting pair of pants makes it obvious to even a sleep-drugged early riser like me that, not matter what the scale says, I am smaller!

My compiler it glaring at me, so I must go work. I hope everyone has a great day!

JennPGH 06-04-2003 08:43 AM

June Challenge

yay! I am back in the challenge!

I am psyched. here are my goals for June:

1. Exercise 5-6 times per week-been slacking off lately due to injured foot. cardio & weights!

2. Drink 8 glasses of water per day, every day.

3. Cut back on sugary drinks, no more than one per day (preferably none!)

hopefully i will lose some weight this month.

i went to the gym this morning. i think i am going to start exercising in the mornings. it seems like if i wait til the evenings i find any excuse not to go! and with my foot problem it is has been even worse. the doc said i shouldn't do any running, treadmill, elliptical, aerobics. basically the only cardio i am doing right now is the bike and spinning. but i could up my weight workout, i just haven't been. i am doing it this month!

RugbyGirl 06-05-2003 01:36 PM

Alright, I am ready for the June Challenge! Even though I didn't feel that I did too well in the May Challenge I actually lost the weight I said I would! YEAH!!!

I definitely need to get back on the ball. I have been gone for over a week and have probably gained a bunch of pounds. I met a bunch of my Italian relatives and was constantly instructed to, "eat more." Urgh...fortunately, we also did a lot of walking. :)

So, my goals for June:
*Drink more WATER!! I have such a hard time doing this. This is the number one priority on my list of goals.
* Starting tomorrow I am going to be more strict with my WW diet...that means journaling!!
*Go to boxing 2x's a week, this includes lifting weights after the class. If possible go on Sat. also
*Rugby on Tues & Thur.
*Touch rugby on Wed.

Right now I weight 186. I would like to lose another six pounds and get down to 180! My class reunion is coming up in August so I must stick to my goals!

Good Job Frisco'sMom!!! :cp: That is the best feeling in the world when a pair of pants that were tight are now loose. Keep up the great work!

Everyone have a great week!!!

tonic 06-05-2003 01:57 PM

FM - That is awesome about the pants being loose.. soon they will be falling off!! :)

Jenn, Rugby - Welcome to the challenge!

Jenn - So will your foot problem go away or is it something you have to live with?

Rugby - Congrats on losing 6 pounds! That is awesome! You have a couple months to go before your Reunion.. so you could lose another 8 pounds! You are going to look great!

jenne1017 06-05-2003 02:48 PM

LOL

That's funny -- because I am Jenn and I too have a foot problem that is hindering my excerise.

My goals [I don't know why I am making them since I never stick to them but here goes]:

1. Drink at least 1 liter of water a day [which is a huge jump since I drink none now]

2. walk twice a week, once my foot heals

3. bike with kiki's bike 2x a week

4. get down to the local Y and check out membership costs and the place itself

5. keep eating well! And not beat myself up when I binge [because it's inevitable that I will do it from time to time] -- but rather, try to figure out why so I won't do it again.

Here's to hoping I can adhere to some!

looosingit 06-05-2003 04:29 PM

Hello all,

Jumping in a bit late...but I'm here none-the-less.

Here are my goals for June 2003:

1 - Continue to walk 45 minutes to 1 hour per day
2 - Limit stress eating (there is probably going to be a lot of stress this month...so this one is key!)
3 - Plan lunches (saves $$ and calories)
4 - Exercise 3X per week minimum
5 - loose 3 pounds this month

So far, so good...I am heading to the gym after work today for exercise day #3 this week, so that keeps me on plan for that section.

FM - I agree...I think that the pant-o-metre is a better measurement than the scale, anyday! Congratulations!

Rugby - you and I are at the same weight now, with a similar end goal in mind! You sound like you are pretty physically active...this is where I fall down...I really prefer more sedentary activities like knitting, reading and watching movies. I'm working on developing some more "active" hobbies though - I just joined an Ultimate team.

Good luck to everyone with their June challenge!

Sounds like this is going to be a great month for us all!

Hooray!

I'm In!!

Hi...I am new to this whole board, but thought I would give it a try hoping that some support will help me lose the weight!! I think the challenge would be a great start in my motivation!!

My Goal...
1.) Walk at least 30 minutes a day. EVERY DAY!!!
2.) By the end of the month be Running at least 30 minutes, every day..
3.) Stop Snacking!! Nore more handfulls of M&M's, jelly beans, only healthy snacks!!
4.) Lose 10lbs.

I am 180lbs and only 5'4", though size wise I am only a 12...but I have gained 10-20lbs every year since I have finished college...where I was really active! I need to lose 40 lbs... I am in a wedding in October and ordered a dress 2 sizes too small to MAKE me lose the weight!!

I definately need the push and the support!!

mocha74 06-05-2003 07:14 PM

Glad to see everyone joining in. Welcome Golfer, Jenne, and lastly Kris is back!!! :cp:

So far so good on my goals except the stretching. I have to admit that I haven't done it once yet. Also, for some reason my water intake seems to only be 1/2 or 3/4 of the daily recommended amount. I need to bump that up to 64 ounces. I can do it!!!! :cb:

Will try and exercise today (3 miles hopefully). I really want to reach my goal of five pounds this month.

Talk to you later girls!

tonic 06-06-2003 09:53 AM

Well. I am old and still 148.5. Nuff said.

JennPGH 06-07-2003 08:59 AM

doing good the exercise part and sugar-need to up the water level. yesterday i only drank about 4 glasses!

Jenn

Diva3888 06-07-2003 11:51 AM

Sounds like everyone is making some progress, keep up the great work. On the other hand i need to get with the program i only worked out4x this week, had problems with fam, car and boyfriend, but everything has worked out so I am going to get back OP. talk to you later ladies...rahael

JennPGH 06-08-2003 01:55 PM

to answer your question from a few days ago-my foot problem could go away. it seems to be getting better. but the doctor said it could heal up from staying off it, but as soon as i start running or anything like that, it could flare up. i just have to be careful and see what works best. it sucks because i miss aerobics. but i like spinning, but spinning and bike everyday get kind of old!

Jenn

Lobacal 06-09-2003 09:15 PM

Hang in ther Tonic....the last few pounds will come off soon...just keep up the good work. And 25 isn't all that old. :) Especially since I'm looking at it from the other side of 25 being 26 myself.

Needing to up my water levels too Jenn. Good luck!! I'm thinking the heat will help though since it's getting hotter here.

Betty

JennPGH 06-10-2003 09:33 AM

25 is not old, but i feel your pain. i just turned 25 on May 29, and everytime i fill out a form or something, and the boxes are "18-24" and "25-32" or something, i get depressed, i used to be in the other box!!!

Yesterday i made this big excel workbook to log food, exercise, water, and weight. in the food section i track calories, fat, fiber, points, and carbs. OMG, yesterday I had almost 400 carbs! (and 3300 calories-way too many!) i didn't realize how much carbs were in everything. I also noticed that I was very hungry throughout the day, and I am sure the two are connected. I am going to start paying more attention to the area.

mocha74 06-12-2003 03:21 PM

Just checking in. So far I have been doing good on my goals except this week I haven't had time to really do much exercise. I've been eating pretty well and drinking water (not as much as I should though). I feel really great, weight wise, so hopefully I'm losing. I will weigh myself tomorrow to see if I've lost any.

SuchAPrettyFace 06-15-2003 04:44 PM

I am getting all my water in, the exercising, not so much b/c I had a kidney infection that felled me last week, but today I AM walking 2 miles, whether that dog likes it or not!

Frisco'sMom 06-16-2003 09:20 AM

Argh! I've had about 4 days off-plan in terms of eating (probably equates to 1 1/2 days completely off plan since eating poorly went hand-in-hand with not very much time to eat).

Hmm...and let's see a trend - also 3 days without doing PM back exercises, 1 day of the bike (but last 2 days I don't bike anyway), 2 days of vitamins, and 1 day of water.

And DH wondered why I was cranky yesterday???

Only relatively good thing is that with all my eating, I stuck relatively close to my "no sugar before something else" goal. Sometimes that "something else" wasn't any better than pure sugar, so I gave myself half credit for that.

But, it's a new day! The past 4 days were pretty hectic too, so I am going work extra hard today to tie up all the loose ends, stay on plan, and be able to have a little breathing room tomorrow!

We are getting into the time of year I love in FL - rainy season. I love rain. LOVE it. Don't love wet feet though. Part of running around today will be to invest in good pair of rain boots.

OK. Gotta go attack that bill pile (oh, I'm not supposed to do that at work? I had no idea...).

Lobacal 06-16-2003 08:31 PM

FM--I know what you mean about loving the rainy season. We've been having afternoon thunder showers up here in GA most afternoons. We always had those in June when I was little. So I'm enjoying seeing their return.

I went shopping this afternoon with my Momma and had an AWESOME surprise. There was this pair of silver pants that I really liked, but the store only had them in a size six. But I figured what the heck, I would try them in a 6. So I did...and they FIT!! I was SO excited. I have NO idea what I weigh, I've not weighed in ages, but I do know that there must be progress being made b/c I'm down at least a size now. Yay!! Anyway...I hope this week is starting off really well for everyone else too.

Oh! Also I called the school where I will be teaching this fall and found out that my classroom had been assigned today! That was awesome news as well.

Keep up the hard work everyone!

Betty

mocha74 06-17-2003 11:33 AM

Betty - Congrats on the size 6 pants :cp:

FM - I know how it feels to be OP but you will get back on track :D

SAPF - You're doing great! Keep it up :)

The week didn't start out too well with me. The only good thing that I did yesterday was drink all my water. I really need to do well this week if I'm going to be anywhere near my goal of a 5 pound loss this week. I hate that I do well one week and crappy the next. I really need to get with the program. Hopefully the next time I write I will have good news.

jenne1017 06-17-2003 02:00 PM

A bit late but here's the progress:

1. Drink at least 1 liter of water a day [which is a huge jump since I drink none now]
I started on Sunday -- 15 days in. But have been drinking [and peeing] more than I ever have!

2. walk twice a week, once my foot heals
Foot's not healed, but I've been playing softball, making hits, and having to run to base. It's rough!

3. bike with kiki's bike 2x a week
Tonight! I WILL TRY! Weather's been so crappy, who wants to bike in the rain?

4. get down to the local Y and check out membership costs and the place itself
This Weekend!

5. keep eating well! And not beat myself up when I binge [because it's inevitable that I will do it from time to time] -- but rather, try to figure out why so I won't do it again.
I'm trying but it's hard. Very hard.

tonic 06-18-2003 02:33 PM

Hi

Sorry for the lack of posts. My parents have been visiting so I have been *very* busy. They are leaving shortly (tomorrow) so hopefully I will be back to normal. I have been getting some exercise in (walks each day).. but otherwise not much to report.

Anyways.. hope everyone is doing well... and I hope to be back online soon.

looosingit 06-18-2003 02:42 PM

Tanya - great to see you back...I was wondering about you this morning...Glad to hear that things are going well. Have you heard anything from Monique?

Monique - are you out there? You are missed. I hope that things are alright with you...

Kris

tonic 06-19-2003 01:57 PM

Kris - No.. I have not heard anything from her. I sent her a PM on the site, but I have heard nothing. I am guessing she just needed some time away from focusing on weight loss.. I know I was thinking about doing that too. Hopefully she will come back to us though.

So I am now free again.. and going to get back on plan :)

JennPGH 06-23-2003 11:35 AM

well i have been doing good w/my non-exercise goals. I think I mentioned my injured foot before-well it isn't much better but i am stubborn and haven't been staying off it like the doctor said to. And actually I was thinking yesterday that it has been hurting since Nov-Dec so I can't expect it will heal overnight! Ugh! What a pain (no pun intended!) I didn't exercise last week (was sick) and i noticed some improvement, and i tried to stay away from any shoes with heels on them (which is hard because almost all my shoes have heels!) and I think that makes a difference too. so i am going to keep on with this, pretty much not do cardio (Maybe sneak in a few bike rides but nothing to put pressure on the foot) and concentrate on weights for now and hope it heals up on its own. I can try a steriod shot but I'm not so sure I want to do that yet.

the only cardio i can do is swimming, which I haven't done in so long. i guess if it does't get better soon i can give it a shot.

jenne1017 i noticed you said you had a foot injury too. hope yours heals faster than mine!

Haven't been doing good with any of my goals. That's all I have to say about that.

Invite - Come join us in the "Summer Challenge Part 2" in the Miscellaneous clubs. weigh-ins every Friday!

mocha74 06-30-2003 11:58 AM

So my June goals that I started out with didn't go so well. However, I changed my goals towards the end of the month to lose just .84 of a pound a week. So far I've accomplished that goal. So here is my break down for the month of June:

1. Drink 64 ounces of water each day - 50% I did well at the beginning and then I don't know what happened

2. Get in 15 miles each week (no excuses) - 15% I know, I know that totally sucked. Actually I think my percentage was worse then that but I decided that I didn't want to be that big of a loser

3. Stay away from sweets (unless it's low-fat or non-fat)!!!! - 60% I did eat some sweets but not nearly as much as I normally do. I have to say that I did pretty good on this one.

4. Stretch at nightime - 0% - Yep, notta one time

5. And the biggest of them all is to lose 5.5 pounds! I can do it!!! - 0% I actually gained about 3 pounds but then I lost it all so I'm pretty much exactly where I was at the beginning of the month. Pretty funny huh

-------

5 and a half. Lose .84 pounds a week - 100% I accomplished this for the last two weeks (the start of this new goal).

So what did I learn from this month:

1. I need to drink more water or my skin is going to dry up and I'm going to look like Spongebob when he's in Sandy's globe thing :D

2. I need to get off my lazy a** and stop making excuses like "I'm too tired" or "that walk from the parking lot up the stairs to my cubicle counts as my exercise for the day."

3. Stay out of Safeway and Albertson's because ice cream that's on sale is just too tempting for me.

4. Stretching is a good thing it can help tremendously with flexibility and ease with exercising and that other thing that my bf likes

5. And lastly, I'm doing this for me and only me! I want to be healthy and happy and I'm going to do it with reasonable goals. Like my loss of .84 pounds a week!

tonic 06-30-2003 03:53 PM

Hi everyone. I know I didnt meet my June Goals... and its depressing, but this month has been very busy. I did do better than the month of May, but I still need to improve.

With that said.. I also wanted to say goodbye. I am off on vacation starting Thursday. I am spending 17 glorious days in Norway. I am very excited. I will watch what I eat but not stress out about it.

So I hope you guys have a great July challenge and I will talk to you all when I get back! I expect you all to meet your goals! :)

golfergirl 06-30-2003 04:21 PM

Alright...so I did alright!!

My Goal...
1.) Walk at least 30 minutes a day. EVERY DAY!!! .OK went at least 3 days per week
2.) By the end of the month be Running at least 30 minutes, every day.. Doubled my running time, ended up running most of the time but not the whole 30 minutes.
3.) Stop Snacking!! Nore more handfulls of M&M's, jelly beans, only healthy snacks!! Not so hot here...for a couple weeks was alright but those M&M's got to me in the end.
4.) Lose 10lbs Lost 7lbs...

All in all not too bad... Since then I decided to revamp what I am doing. I counted the carbs that me and my husband consumed in a normal day and was shocked so we have since thrown out everything in the house with carbs and are on the Atkins diet!! We'll see how that goes...

Lobacal 07-01-2003 07:30 PM

As far as my June goals go....

I did really well with the keeping the Training log for my Tri. I did that 100% of the time. When I exercised in the log it went. Yay!

As far as the water goes (to drink 64oz daily) , I would say I met that 70% of the time. I'm going try for more on that this month.

The exercise goal to exercise 5-6 times a week increased greatly for me this month. I never managed to exercise 5 times a week. The best I did was 4. But despite the exercising waxing and waning it did pick up some.

So all in all...I did decent in June. Now on to July!!

treefrogtoes 07-02-2003 07:20 PM

did it again!

Well June was a great month for me once again! I'm not too ashamed to say that I'm proud of myself!

I made the board for the 2nd month in a row at my CURVES location! I've only been a member for 2 months, and for both I've lost the most pound/inches combination! Yea for me!

This month my total was 12lbs and 6 1/2 inches. WHEW!

so, since May 1, 2003 I've lost 23 pounds and 15 inches. My clothes are too big, and I can fit into shorts I haven't looked at in a really long time! I can definatly keep this up (or should I say down?!), I AM going to be reaching goals I have only dreamed of.

Great job to all... keep up the good work!
:bravo:
