Question New here, and have a few questions :)

As the title says I am new here to 3 fat chicks... Anyways my name is Kyleigh, I'm 24 and my weight is 207... I have set myself up on a 1200 calorie diet and I'm hoping to lose at least 2 lbs a week (too much to ask for?). And here's my question... those of you doing a 1200 calorie diet how much did you typically loose in your first week and after that what's the average you do lose only consuming 1200 calories?
Before I became pregnant with my now 2 yr old daughter I weight 170 almost to my goal weight, the day I had her I weighed in at 289 lbs. (due to toxemia) I lost 80 of that all by myself in a year and then went to a doctor that prescribed me phen I lost another 32 in 3 months I was also consuming 1200 calories while taking phen.
Anyways is it possible for me to see the same result doing this on my own without the help of my doc (phen) ?

Hey Kyleigh! My name is brittany. I am 21 so far I've lost 27lbs. I started with a 1600 cal diet and am slowly moving it down to 1200 because you still lose and it's easier to stay on track if you start small! Good luck! and Good job at starting your journey!

Brittany, how long has it been since you lost the weight you have? I see you just joined this month. You haven't lost all of that in 10 days have you ? Might seem like a silly question but you never know

Welcome to 3FC!

1200 calories will allow you to lose weight, but you can certainly lose on more than that--especially since you're on the tall side. If you insist on sticking to 1200, make sure you're eating 1200 calories of healthy food!

Don't worry too much about the pace of your loss...if you stick to it, the weight will come off.

Thanks sontikle, it's not that it matters how much I lose in a week, I guess I was just wondering how much I could expect to lose...and I've heard that even consuming a little more than I am already I will still lose...but thanks

So I think when we all start calorie countin we think 1200 is a magic number. But really it isn't. My suggestion is to calculate your bmr.. I like this calculator that's how much calories your body uses to survive and keep your body functioning properly. Then you want to figure in how much exercise you do. My suggestion is to at the very least eat bmr....

I do a 1600 calorie diet, I lost 11 lbs in the first month. The first two weeks should be easiest to drop weight. I eat a lot of fruits and some veggies and count everything and I go over a few hundred calories every once in a while. I have slowed down a little due to falling off the wagon for a couple days, but I feel better and healthier. My stomach has shrunk so it is easier to feel fuller

Annafterolin ... You lost 11 lbs within the first month here, that's awesome! I hope I have that much luck

Hi Kfrazier,

Try this calculation (it was suggested to be by a PT & friend)

Your lbs (207) x8 = Minimum required Calorie Intake (any less and your body would store fat instead of burning it.

So off your last measurement your RDI would be 1656 a day

Hi Kfrazier,

I started my 'diet' November 1st and since then I have lost 12 pounds. I started off at 211 pounds, so around where you're at and I'm an inch shorter than you. My suggested calorie total by myfitnesspal was 1750. I have been eating around that for the last 6 weeks, some days lower, never less than 1200, and a couple days over 2000. I would suggest eating a bit more than 1200 as you'll be happier in the long run and most likely stick with it. 2 years ago I started a 1200 calorie a day diet and I was so miserable and hungry at night I would often binge. I'm finding a lot more success at my higher calorie intake.

Good Luck!

Hello there and welcome to the forums! I'm new here as well and have enjoyed, thus far, all that I have read and the conversations I have had. It is possible to lose 1-2 pounds, but if your metabolism is slow you may need a kick start. Personally, I am underneath physician care with phen. Of course the doctor has me on a very regulated diet as well and has been teaching me the ins and outs of food labels, eating, and how to control my hunger. However, there are many ladies on this forum who do it purely naturally. I honestly believe a person's weight loss is strongly linked to someone's emotional state of being. I know , personally, I am not strong enough to stand alone. So, my question is are you? I believe the reason we are all here is due to needing support and constant motivation and others need something a little deeper.

Have you considered going to the physician just for an initial examination? Or have you thought you scheduling an appointment with a dietician just to talk about foods and what you should be consuming? I believe you can lose weight without drugs, if that was your main question, but with a nice physical exam you can see exactly where you are at, make a list of questions to be answered, and start off educated and prepared.

I clicked in my stats in Myfitnesspal on my Iphone that I used several years ago when I was working out. I typed in that I wanted to lose 1-2 pounds a week and it came back saying 1600+ calories. Well, according to my physician if I want to maintain my weight that's what I need to be consuming. Yikes!

Hi, I think that 1200 calories is too little for you, too. Especially since you're just starting you're going to be eating less than half the calories you normally eat and I think it's too abrupt. At first you're probably going to lose more than you wanted anyway, because you'll lose water and such. I hope this answers your question.

As for calculators, I use this one. If you click on "7 Day Calorie Cycle" it gives you different calories for each day. There are two lists: the first one tells you how much to eat in order to lose 2 lbs per week and the second one tells you how much to eat in order to lose 1 lb per week.

Thank you ladies, I'm going to go ahead and start at 1600 a day ad eventually well maybe work my way down to 1200 ... I appreciate all of your input on this ... Scondy, I honestly am afraid I won't lose anything without help, and that's mostly why I am here to get support from everyone! I really don't want to have to go back to my doctor for help by I figured if I haven't gotten anywhere near my goal by my birthday in April, I may reach out to him and get a by of a shove!
Again thank you all! On the plus side my firs weigh in was last Monday and I weighed almost 208 I weighed myself this morning and I'm down to 205 so I was pretty ecstatic that I lost almost 3 lbs. within a weeks time. Plus with having my family down for Thanksmas I didn't think I would have lost anything with all food I ate lol... But I am very excited that I saw some weight loss this week!! Thank you all
