Nice Clothes *sigh*

  • I have trouble with pants once I gain weight...tops are OK. But even if I go up sizes, the proportions don't ever fit me correctly despite the many stores I go to (and I'm sick of the searching haha), my legs are...difficult haha.
Anyways, I found a pair at Target that look like work pants, unless you touch them-theyre more of a "looser" material, no one knows, but I do feel awkward on the inside that I can't get proper pants (yet). So its no big deal I guess, I just wanted to put it out there haha.
  • A few companies have started making jeans in different proportions, like some being small in the waist and large in the thighs or large in waist and small in thighs, etc.

I bought some jeans from Fashion Bug made that way and Lane Bryant makes them as well. I've heard of other companies doing something similar, like having a "curvy" style of jeans but can't think of any other companies off the top of my head.

At higher weights my waist was much, much smaller than my hips and I always had the problem of the waist on pants gaping open at the back. As I've lost weight my hips have shrunk but unfortunately my waist hasn't gone down quite as fast! I can mostly fit into just normal Levis and other brands now, though.
  • Oh man, when I was at 200 lbs I hated clothes! I have massive boobs, there's no way about it. I was a 36 G (possibly bigger, I never dared to get measured) and all the nice tops just looked horrendous on me. They would stretch across my chest and then hang off them so I looked like a tent. I was too self conscious of my body to get tighter fitted clothes to show off anything, so I opted for baggy t-shirt and hoodies to cover them.

We're actually the opposite, my legs are fine, it's just my upper half that's the problem! But I'm sure there are ranges out there suited to you. Think of it as an incentive if anything, I've kept some of the tops that I wore in pictures where I thought "Oh my god I'm so fat" so I can put them on and think "yeaaah, I've lost weight!"

I know your pain, but again, use it as fuel for your weight burning fire!
  • Don't give up! Maybe you should try something different, legging are really in style right now. Leggings with a longer top would probably look really cute!
  • There are certain clothing lines that cater to women with curvier figures! Are your pants tighter in the legs than they are in the waist and hips?

Things may not magically get better when you get to goal...everyone thinks that once you get to goal that shopping will be super easy and you can just run into the store and buy anything and look great.

Uh...no. I have a harder time finding clothes now!!

When I was plus size I could easily buy things off the rack. However for some reason now my pants need to be hemmed because they're all too long. I didn't shrink or anything! I can't get petite pants because they're too short!

Although to be honest I can fit into some of the larger girl's sizes...those seem to have the right inseam

Tops are harder for me because I'm busty and I have broad shoulders. If I get a size to accomodate my bust and shoulders, it's swimming in my waist. I didn't really have this problem when I was plus-sized as tops are usually cut generously in that area. I'll either have to alter my tops or buy clothes online.

And bras...I was a 40D before. I could walk into Walmart or Target and buy a $10 bra if I needed. Now I'm a 32DD. I need to buy my bras online or at places where they're generally more expensive (Victoria's Secret, Nordstrom's, etc.).

I guess for most people it'll magically get easier when they get smaller. It's harder for me to find clothes, but I'm not really all that broken up about it. I like my new figure. I just need to learn how to show it off! It IS annoying at times though because like many people I assumed that clothes shopping would be an easier experience.
  • sont - I can believe that, I think my boobs will always be a problem! I'm a 32 HH, which to me stands for "Hella HUGE"! They don't bug me as much as they used to, but I would love to get down to a D cup at least, I don't want to be defined as the girl with the big tits any more!
  • I had no choice but get a whole new work wardrobe when I started my current job last year. I hate shopping for pants especially. I have no choice but to get most of my work pants tailored because I have a belly, no ***, and slimmer legs. It's a nightmare! I did find some of those elastic waist work pants and I love them, no body can tell and when I need to tuck something in, I just throw a belt on and wear a jacket. They're very comfortable and don't stretch out like other pants.

And the only jeans I like are AE, of all places!
  • Have you tried Levi's Curve Id jeans? I posted a review here if you're interested and also commented about how their sizing works here. The quality is amazing and a lot of times you can find them on sale on the website for $30+free shipping.

Otherwise, it's relatively easy to alter pants yourself (especially khakis since the material is thinner). If you're getting gapping at the waist just pinch the extra material and pin it and then sew a dart back there (you could even just hand stitch this). I'll have to do this sometime soon and post it on my blog as an example.

It's annoying, though! I've found like sontaikle that weight loss has NOT helped at all when it comes to finding clothes. I have a large bust and butt and it makes pretty much everything tricky. I wear a 30GG/H bra at the moment and if I lose another band size then there are just a handful of places in the world where I can buy bras (as is I need to order all my bras from abroad!). Fun stuff... Oh, and don't even get me started on tops...
  • Oh my gosh I used to have terrible luck with dress pants!! If I got them to fit over my tummy then they would be grossly baggy under my belly. I stopped trying and just went with skirts even though I felt naked in them and had to wear something underneath to keep my thighs from rubbing. Ugh so terrible! But now that I have lost weight I've lost a lot of inches in my waist and hips so I can actually get pants to fit again! It's very exciting to me. I've always been able to find jeans that I could squeeze myself into though so I'm pretty lucky there I guess.
  • Another one with pant issues here! My bottom half is still pretty big in comparison to my top half, which makes finding pants a nightmare. If they fit in the waist the legs are way too tight and if they fit in the legs the waist is huge. I, like some of the other posters, have had more luck with lines such as Right Fit (at Fashion Bug and Lane Bryant). Also, it seems that a lot of lines have a few different pant silhouettes available, so I try to stick to the ones that are not slim through the hips and thighs. This has helped also. Dresses actually seem to work best since I don't really have to worry about how they fit my legs.
  • Dress pants are the worse for me. My hips are naturally wide so I have to buy bigger. But it felt like I had a huge pouch in the front as if I bought maternity pants when I clearly did not.

Now I have to buy more expensive ones at Lane Bryant because I know they fit, but dang if I can't always afford a $70 pair.
  • I'm bigger on the bottom than the top, so I have the waist gap problem as well.

As far as jeans go, I splurge a little and get some good quality jeans at Macys. They have so many different designers and styles that I always find some that fit pretty well. I figure I can live with 1 or 2 good quality pairs of jeans (they also have a good selection of work pants in different shapes). If all else fails (and you have the same problem as me) you can get some pants that fit your thighs and then have the waist taken in. I'm thinking I will always have this problem, no matter how much weight I lose, so I will have to resort to tailoring eventually.
