Default looking for a weight loss buddy/friend

I've seen a few posts like this that seemed to work out, so figured I'd try!

I'm about a month and a half into this journey - and I've decided that I really need someone I can talk to consistently to stay on target. Someone who checks the internet at least once a day is preferable - though I definitely know life gets busy.

Since I moved last year, all my friends are really far away and I haven't had many people to talk too. Plus, the friends I do stay in contact with don't really understand what I'm going through right now with weight loss. Quite a few of them have always been able to eat whatever they want and still lose weight. I, however, am a different sort of person.

I absolutely love these forums, but I think I'd like to meet a few people that I stay in consistent contact and we can share our journey. I'm looking for someone to exchange ideas with, talk too about the bad and the good, and who understands the struggles of losing weight. Preferably someone who has "around" the same amount of weight to lose as I do, or at least understands.

We can e-mail, read each others blogs, and be a positive outlet for each other!

Hope this isn't weird and doesn't sound too much like a personal ad. haha!

A little about me: I have been married for a little over a year. I am 25 and live in Ohio. I work full time and have my associate's degree, but am considering going back to school at some point. No children yet, though we've talked about the possibility in the next few years - preferably after I lose some weight. I'm calorie counting, mostly because it's cheaper than a lot of other diets. I'm just starting out with exercising.

Hoping someone responds.

Hey there!

I understand what you're going through and how it can be especially hard when you don't have friends or others who you can talk to about your weight loss. I've tried talking to my sister but I feel like she's not being encouraging in a positive way.

I was 18lbs lighter last summer, but with all the negativity and the constant scrutiny of my weight I guess I just couldn't keep up with the pressure. This time I haven't told anyone except DH of course, about my weight loss goals. I plan to take it nice and slow and keep the weight off forever. I'm 27 years old and live in Northern Virginia and I've been married for 2 and 1/2 years. We plan on having a baby sometime next year which is why I'm all the more determined to keep the weight off. I've been calorie counting as well. I use the MyNetDiary app on my iPhone and its my new BFF! I like to walk/run and that's just what I'm doing now. I plan on starting weight training when I'm a closer to my goal.

I don't quite have as much weight to lose, but I do understand the struggles and if you need someone to be able to share your journey with and be accountable to, then I'm up for it. It would definitely benefit me as well.

Thanks for the reply!

That would be great. I use a iphone app to keep track of everything, too! I haven't tried mynetdiary, but I use daily tracker and it's extremely useful.

I've told a few people, but the only person I really talk to about it is my DH.

I had lost about 30 lbs before I got married last year, then when I got married and moved 12 hours away from my family and friends with my husband, I kind of fell off track. I was depressed with having just uprooted my life and let it get to me.

It'll be good to have someone to talk too who understands.

I'm in a similar boat.

Just last month I moved 1700 miles from friends and family. I have nobody around me to talk to and even the people I talk to online, nobody else is dieting. I had to beg my sister to promise to check in with my current weight loss blog, but she's not much of a cheerleader.

I try to blog daily on an off-site blog about how I did the day before. So far it's a lot of whining because I've been really bad this week (first week and already slacking off). But even my husband is only passively supportive, so I feel quite alone and anonymous in this journey. I keep hoping for just 3 or 4 people to form a tight-knit support group where we really know each other, more than just our weight loss numbers and goals. I started out with a group like that, but they all only had about 15-20 lbs to lose and once they hit their goals they quit chatting about it and my support group fizzled and I lost all motivation and gained back the 15 I'd lost. :-(

Anyway, rambling, but just wanted to say: I'm totally there if you wanted someone.

Edit: I'm 26 with 2 kids and though I'm ready emotionally to add to our family, I really really want to be at 150 before I start putting on more pregnancy weight. And I'd like to have lots of healthy habits established so I can exercise throughout my pregnancy and even keep that weight gain minimal.

I don't have a blog or anything, I'm not quite a writer or that's just my excuse! I'm plain lazy! :P If you do get mynetdiary you can add me on it. My id there too is getfitfast. I think that way you might access to my food and exercise plans and such. Is there a similar option on daily tracker as well? And I can add you on there. That way we can each stick to the tool that we're comfortable with.

Sarah, I completely understand how you feel! My husband is great with being supportive, but I personally miss the female companionship. He changed a few small things about his diet, and lost 25 lbs. I completely changed my eating and lost 6 in the same amount of time. So I sometimes feel like I can't discuss it with him, even though he says I can. And all my friends that I keep in contact have either nothing to lose, or just don't want to bother.

I am in the same boat with wanting to lose weight before getting pregnant. My husband and I want kids, but I'm postponing until I lose some weight. We can totally help motivate each other. The more people to talk too, the better I do.

GetFitFast, you can check into my blog. I'll make a mynetdiary to keep in contact with you! Maybe I'll like it better than what I'm currently using, which is really just a glorified calculator, haha. I don't think they have a way to share anything, so I'll check out yours and maybe convert.

PM me if you want to exchange e-mails, or you can use the one associated with my blog though I haven't checked that much - it's [email protected]. I also have AIM, if you use that. I'd prefer not to post any personal information on the forums, though. But I'm willing to exchange anything with new weight loss buddies to keep in contact!

I made a mynetdiary! My log-in is meliz, with the e-mail above as the primary e-mail. I don't know how to add you. But I recorded what I've eaten today.

I hate how my husband can drop those pounds in a jiffy! Not that he needs to, anyway.

Sarah, I know that I also have only 15-20 lbs to lose, but I plan on keeping at it for at least a year or even more. I want to be accountable even during maintenance just to make sure the weight stays away for good!

Meliz, I added you on mynetdiary. Check in community under friends. If you don't find my name there, you'd have to go to mynetdiary.com and go to community and you'd be able to search for my profile and add me. I only get to see the calories consumed and the calories burnt. Which is good, coz then I'd want to behave and stay within the caloric limit and want to exercise as well!

Hi!

I'm in the boat with you. I weigh about the same, been married a little over a year, am counting calories, have friends who are far away and too skinny to understand, have no kids but want to lose weight then have some...

I would love to email and such. I have a blog but have slacked on writing in it lately since no one reads it... I track my calories on myfitnesspal.

Let's be friends!!!

Oh, Sarah, I can't PM you. So e-mail me at [email protected] whenever you get around to it so we can keep in contact!

You too, kwigg. Or you can PM me on here. Whichever you'd like - though I usually prefer e-mail.

Yaye for my new buddies!
