  • Quote: I just switched to barefoot running.
Weird question: what are your feet like in terms of arch and pronation and all that? I've really been thinking about trying that next time, but I'm afraid my weird gait wouldn't work with it. I run on the balls of my feet, too!
  • ive had reebok easy tones, and theyre the most comfortable shoes for anything! EVER!!!
  • I've been told I have "barbie-doll" feet. I have an insanely high arch and instep-which is why I couldn't wear the toe shoes. High heels are super comfy for me though! It also makes my toes oddly flexible or something, when going up on them I can go up an extra level so to speak (not en pointe, but the top of my foot sticks out past my toes if that makes sense) I don't pronate or supinate; although when I first tried on the shoes it felt like a slight supination, but it wasn't.

I got made fun of all through school for having a weird gate, just now learning that it's actually a good thing! Every time I tried to conform and run with a heel strike I had problems; it's nice to have shoes that encourage my natural strike.
  • I definately want to look into this!!! Thanks so much!
  • I asked my triathalon friend the same question a few weeks ago, and apparently there is not only one but two places in our town that specialize in running shoes. They have you run on a treadmill and they analyze your gait and then recommend a pair. It's free. I was honest and told them I was a broke grad student and would buy the shoes online, and they were still really cool.

Here is a great link from Runner's World on pronation. Videos too. You can see what kind of pronator you are and google the best shoes for it. You don't have to spend $100+, there always great deals online. I got a great pair of Nike's in an 'undesirable' (in other words, crazy hot pink) color for about $50 less.

    Happy shopping and happy running!

  • I use nike airmax.
  • I found the perfect pair!!! Now I gotta budget! lol
    THAT is my problem!!!
  • So today I went to a running shoe store and had my gait analyzed then bought a new pair of running shoes to match my biomechanics. I've yet to give them a test run, but I'm excited to!
  • Good luck!!! Let me know how everything works out!!!
  • I just did my first run in them. They feel good, so no complaints so far.
  • I echo everyone else who recommended getting fitted. For example, Asics is a very popular brand of running shoe, but I HATE them. They just don't work for my feet. They are a great brand, but not for me. You will be so impressed with how great your feet feel in a pair of properly fitting shoes. I have a friend who has started barefoot running with these:http://www.vibramfivefingers.com/index.htm and she looooves it. I might try them after the baby is born.
