half marathon?

  • Hey everyone!
So i have decided to run a half marathon may first. I trained to walk in one last summer and it was a success. Now I want to step it up and run one. I trained with Team in Training before and now I am doing this one on my own. I have found a training schedules online but am wondering which is best. Does anyone have any advice? books or websites to look at? any help would be amazing thank you!
  • Congrats for committing to run a half! You won't regret it. I did one last august and I have another one coming up in April. I basically develop my own training schedule because I like to do a lot of cross training with running to prepare, like cardio kickboxing and playing soccer. You definitely want to build your mileage up week by week. About.com has training schedules for all levels from beginner to advanced and for all different race lengths. I highly recommend starting with that and then tailoring it to fit your exercise preferences and schedule. Hope that helps!!
  • It's always been a little dream of mine to run a half.
I don't have any advice unfortunately, but good luck!
  • I have ran a few half marathons before- they are so much fun! My advice would be to build up a really good base- get comfortable with running 1-3 miles at least 4-5 days per week with some cross training. Then when it gets closer, (about 10 weeks before the race) follow an actual training plan. If you go to the website marathonrookie.com, then go to half marathon, there is a good 10-week training plan, I used something similar to this when I trained for mine.

    Good luck with your training!
  • Thank you ladies its a challange I'm looking forward to and will take all the advice i can get!
