How often do you workout? I workout 3 times a week for an hour (cardio and strength intervals during the hour). I have back muscle spasms sometimes and had knee surgery a couple years ago so I try not to over do it. That being said, should I suck it up and try to add in more exercise that doesn't hurt my knee and back? Can I still be successful losing weight without working out all of the time? Thanks!
I used to work out 6 times a week for anywhere between 30 minutes and 2 hours each time. But, I didn't lose any weight. I couldn't out-exercise my over-eating, even though I was eating healthy, all-natural foods.
Now, I'm only going to the gym 3 or 4 times a week for about 30 minutes (sometimes up to 45 minutes, but rarely longer than that) and eating very sensibly. I've been losing about 2 pounds per week.
So, to make a long story short, you CAN lose weight without working out all of the time.
It varies, some weeks 3, other's 5 and so on. I try not to go under 3 but if it happens I'll make sure to work my *** off the week after. If I'm at the gym my workouts are an hour I have my trainer twice a week and she kills me. If I'm at home I'll do a video from 30 minutes to 45.
It varies. Some weeks I work out 4 days, and other weeks I do 5 days. I go for about 1 hr 40 min each time. That's mostly to do with the bus schedule lol. But I enjoy being at the gym for a longer period of time. It helps me relax and feel good, not just physically but emotionally as well. While I'm at the gym I get on the elliptical, bike, and treadmill. I also do upper and lower body strength training. Plus lots and lots of stretching! I always feel really good when I leave, even if I was feeling really lousy before I got there.
Have you tried doing less strenuous activities that wont bother your back or your knee?
That being said, I work out 5 days a week about an hour- an hour and a half a day. That keeps me motivated though, if I didn't go to the gym I feel like I put in my effort so I should just sit and gorge on junk food...
I absolutely believe that you don't have to work out 5 days a week to lose weight though
I've been aiming for six days/week (usually an hour, either bootcamp or spin class) but sometimes I take an extra day off so on average between 5-6 days/week. It works for me
I do 4-6x a week for an hour or an hour 15 a day. Strength training, cardio etc in a morning boot camp.
Working out has changed my BODY more than anything I've ever done before. Yes the calories in and calories out help you shed the pounds but I have to say, working out has toned me in ways I never thought possible...I always thought I was "big boned" LOL Something that truly doesn't exist and was just a way for me to rationalize my weight!
I do about 3 days a week, 1 of which is an hour of yoga, the other 2 or 3 are elliptical and some minor strength stuff for around an hour. If I do much more than that I find myself INCREDIBLY hungry and have a difficult time controlling my calories.
When I started out, I did about 3 times a week for 45 mins. Now, because I am smaller and need to be a bit more intense so I aim for 5 times a week, at an hour each time.
You can lose weight without working out at all, but your body won't change shape and your fitness level won't improve. I make a point to do sweaty cardio/strength training 6 days a week. It is very rare for me to have a sedentary day. Yesterday I considered a day "off" but I did walk at a fast pace for about 70 minutes up and down hills.

I wish you much success on your journey!!
I completely agree with this /\ /\ /\!!
I also aim for 6 days a week, almost always hit 5 of those. My body does have some loose skin, which I'm hoping will firm up as I keep exercising. However, I am no longer soft and mushy. I always remember my Grandmother's skin and how it was so soft and squishy. Now I realize that was from having no muscle tone. I don't mind getting older and anything that comes with it naturally, but I will fight that look with exercise forever.
