Plum sauce and flaxseed oil

  • My friend gave me the awesome gift of plum sauce and a bottle of flaxseed oil for christmas, anmd I'm wondering if anyone has some good ways to use them? (i also got some raspberry and rhubarb conserve but I know what to do with that ). I have read plum sauce is a really nice dipping sauce, are there any other recipes for it that you guys know of? What about flaxseed oil? I know you dont cook with that. What can I add it to?
  • Plum sauce is good with meats...like lamb...I think you could also use it to make a pretty good marinade for chicken. The flaxseed oil on the other hand, I have no idea...actually my ideas kind of sucked haha.
  • No wai, your ideas were awesome! Also, any excuse to buy lamb And they gave me a hunch- what about chicken kebabs with plum sauce to dip them in? The internet is all like, goes great with deep fried stuff! And im like hmmm :/

Looks like flaxseed oil is good on salads, I wonder if it would be good on pasta salads too?
  • Haha deep fried...yeah I think the internet is right, would go well with like...spring rolls. OHHH actually in saying that...in the supermarket, you can buy this box of "Cocktail Delights" by a brand called Highmark - it has mini spring rolls, samosas and money bags, they're all vegetarian, and they are fairly low calorie if you bake them in the oven! I think they'd go pretty good with plum sauce.
I can't believe how expensive lamb is at the moment. Ridiculous. And yeah, I think chicken kebabs with plum sauce for dipping would be great!
  • Flaxseed oil is good on top of pasta, on potatoes (mashed, baked, whatever), on salads like you said. You can mix it in stir fries after cooking, too.
  • Sounds like we might need to be having some chicken kebabs with vegetables and pasta!
  • You can use flaxseed oil wherever you would use any other cooking oil - its apparently a really good substitute for olive oil because it is just as good for you with less fat.

    Plum sauce just sounds great...
  • But it says on the bottle not to cook with it? Or do you mean in terms of using olive oil for dressings and things? I'm really excited about the plum sauce And the great thing is that the ingredients are like, plums, sugar, ginger
