Red face Newbie ( :

Hi I'm new here, 24 going on 25, 5'8/187. I've gained about 50lbs over the past 5 years, and about 30 of them in the last 2 years & I'm looking to get back on track! I quit my sales job in the beauty industry to go back to school to follow my dreams, & next semester I've signed myself up for 3 different 2-hour per session dance classes. I know there's going to be a lot of legitamite dancers there with their legitamite dancer's bodies & I'm pretty much terrified... hahaha.. I'm laughing but really I'm terrified!
If anyone has any workout routines they could share with me that has worked for them I would love it! I've lost 3lbs in 6 days (unfortunately they were all in the first 2 days somehow Whatever it's better than gaining I say!) but I'm hoping I can lose 10 more by the 7th of February. Overall I'd like to get down to about 135, although I'm not too sure how realistic that is- but a girl can dream, right? I figure if I do a lb a week I should be good for the holidays next winter.
As for right now though I am willing to kick some but excercising... I'm just not sure how to get started!

Thanks for listening everybody!!!

Welcome! Dancing is definitely a great way to exercise, though I totally know how you feel, being in a class with a bunch of "legitimate" dancers. I'm in a tango class right now and I'm one of only a few people who have never taken a dance class before, most everyone else knows what they're doing. But it's also nice, because you get to learn from your classmates.

Other than that, I mostly just do a lot of walking. It's a good workout, and actually very relaxing. I do Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred off and on as well. You might find that, for now, the dancing is enough, though. Good luck.

Welcome! Do what you love, that's the best advice. If you love running, run. If you love dancing, dance! I love the new Zumba workout for the Wii. It's fun. Best wishes on your journey!

Thanks you guys! It really helps to get ideas from people that have lost some weight! You're all doing such a great job- I can't wait until I'm in your shoes

I guess I've come to the conclusion that I basically just need to stop thinking so much about it & get off my butt and do it lol.

Welcome Nelope! Since you said you like dancing, have you thought about trying Zumba? I haven't tried it yet, but I want to!

Welcome! I think you are so brave for signing up for dance classes even though its scary! I promised myself i would do the dance class at my gym when I was smaller but I still dont feel ready to go! So good on you I agree with what everyone else said, and nutrition is really important so I would say make sure you have a good plan for that too Good luck!
