GreenTea - That's awful! Sounds like she's jealous that you're sticking to your plan and she can't! Hold your chin up high and tell her to screw off! lol

Sometimes I come to work and find candy/cookies on my desk that coworkers have brought back from trips. I generally ninja said candy/cookies and put them on another teacher's desk.
There have been occasions when colleagues bake a pie and bring me a slice. I often can't say no in these cases since it's heartfelt kindness rather than sabotage - no one at work knows explicitly that I'm trying to lose weight. |
I'm in a similar situation as Krampus. Japanese people love to give sweets and candy out. While the portions are usually smaller than American sweets, I try to avoid them. If it's some handmade, I will usually eat it. The worst was when I was with some older ladies last weekend. All of them made me like 8 cookies. I had to eat some of it... :(

ellohelle your lucky that your in Japan. My goal is to go there in 2012 :) when i loose my weight.

I still go to school but we have free stuff here all the time! People come in to sell their products to the students and give out free pizza, speakers come and they have free lunch, etc. I try to steer clear of the food but when there is left over food they put it on the receptionists desk in the middle of the school so i have to repeatedly walk by it. And I find that I'm strangely competitive about the food. Like I want to have it so no one else can--like I'm afraid I'll starve if I don't get that cookie and someone else does! So weird! But I've successfully avoided the free pizza, cookies, and brownies this year :)
I even managed to get someone else food and not take any for myself. Free food is normally my downfall so this has been huge! That stinks that some people are so rude about it. I haven't had anyone try to sabatoge me yet though. I don't think I would be so polite as you all are being. Perhaps if you talked to the donut lady and told her you really don't appreciate her input? Just say it in front of everyone and give her a dose of her own medicine? I used to work at coffee shops and I will never eat a donut again. A single munchin is 60 calories! Forget the full size ones! We're talking 300-400 EASY! Sooo not worth it! |
like Krampus and Elleohelle... i get "souvenir" cookies and stuff, but usually it's wrapped individually so i'll just stuff them in my desk and eat ONE if i'm really hungry mid-morning or somethin. plus the sizes are really small so it's not so bad.
i really can't imagine all you people living with free donuts, pizza, cakes and all that... i've never really been in that kind of environment even when i worked in Canada... |
Haha I just ate 2 cookies given to me by a coworker and I have a kit kat that's gonna get eaten before this day is over. Good thing I packed such a small lunch!

kit kat....-sigh- so damn good

I used to work with a girl like that (back when I was up at 180.) I quit then came back 20 pounds lighter and she doesn't seem to do that to me anymore since I've lost the weight. Plus I tell her straight up I won't eat and she's nice enough not to really bring the food around me. Though once in a while she'll buy me a fuze drink which is only 20 calories on a nice attempt because she'd rather not buy a bottle of water. I'm cool with that. Though she seems to feel the need to justify herself to me when she eats crap, and complains that the 20 I've lost went to her mean while I've been gone 6 months and she looks the exactly the same. lol

I find that a "no thank you" or "I don't want any" works better than saying I'm trying to lose weight, prevents food pushing, and keeps my weightloss my business. For home made things it's usually harder, but I'll offer to either try a very small bite because I'm full, or take some for "later", which is my excuse to throw it out or pawn it off on someone else. (poor hubby)

that really doesn't happen to me. but then again, i work at McDonald's. lol, not the best place to work when you're trying to lose weight trust me!

Food Pushers infuriate me. I've encountered a few kinds:
- People who know you're trying to lose weight, know your favorite foods, and think tempting you is fun...just for their kicks and giggles. - People who simply show love/friendship/affection etc by sharing foods. They think they're being rude by not absolutely insisting that you take whatever they have to offer. - People who don't want to eat the bad foods themselves and want to pawn it off on other people before they lose control. - People who truly are just ignorant about the whole situation and offering food because it's polite and...what people do. - People who act offended and make you feel guilty when you don't accept the food they offer. Depending on my relationship with the person, the situation, etc, I deal with this stuff in a few ways. - I might politely decline, "no thank you, I just ate" - If somebody thinks it's funny to tempt me, I might suck the fun out of it by expressing that I have no desire to eat the food (even if I really do). "Megan, I knooow you want one of these hot fresh donuts" "Oh, no thanks, I don't really like donuts...too sweet." - Accept the food to be polite and take a napkin..."Oh thank you...I'll take it and save it for later"...and toss it in the garbage as soon as you can. This is wasteful, I know, but that cookie that the nice little old lady is offering me is either going to end up in the trash or as poo in the toilet/fat in my body. I'd rather take it, not hurt her feelings, toss it in the trash, and not get fat, lol. There are some other lines and techniques, but those are my trusty favorites. |
Ah I've been guilty of food pusher personality #3 before! I'll get a pasta entree at dinner and then offer it to my friends when I get to the point of "sh!t, I should stop but if I can't get rid of it I'll eat it all."
