Okay, potentially lame. But I just heard about these and even if just ONE person likes the idea, I did my job. Heard of 'em? I made a veggie soup on Sunday and with my leftover veggies (cauliflower, broccoli, baby carrots, and cabbage), I just cut them up and put them into 5 Ziploc steam fresh bags. Take them to work, add a tablespoon of water and cook them in the microwave for just five minutes. They are perfectly steamed. I just added pepper, but really you can add whatever spices you want. They even do meats and stuff (haven't tried this). Basically I'm in love because I have a hard time getting my veggies in. I'm not into raw veggies and cooking them in one day makes them gross after a day or two in the fridge and re-heat. They were perfect. So I know, I'm raving over something completely simple and borderline lame, but it's great. Hope someone likes the idea!Yeah, I'm eating carrots, so I thought that was fitting.
I love steamlock bags! Having them for veggies is great if you are really pushed for time packing lunch, and since i was only using them for veg I could get at least a couple of uses out of each bag (if i was steaming chicken or fish i might be a bit more careful lol but you probably could just wash them and re-use).
Lol i never worry about microwaving things in plastic XD Usually I microwave my lunch in an ice cream container. My bf was like, "you know you are pretty much pushing plastic into your food..." *shrug*
It sounds really convenient, but are you worried about heating things you eat in plastic?
I know that came up before in a thread about Ziploc omelets. Whatever company makes Ziploc does NOT recommend using regular Ziploc bags for cooking ::searches in vain for skull-n-xbones smiley::, but I presume these Steamfresh bags must be custom-made for steaming veggies in the microwave. Of course somebody out there is going to worry about BPA and other chemicals, and even though I'm an Evil Tool of Big Science chemistry ain't my field so I can neither intensify worry on that question or lay it to rest
I figure there has got to be something different about them. Since they are MADE for microwave use, they've got to be different. I'm no expert either. But if you stop seeing me around here...don't use them! lol. Just kidding. Kind of.
hahaha that is funny. So who do you sue when you spill hot coffee on your lap from the McDonald's drive through and of course it wasn't your fault? Reason: "the coffee was too hot." seriously. Yeah, only in America.
I do that, but I just use the Corelle dishes we own. Like a saucer on a cereal bowl with a spoonful of water. Zap! Then I stick in a thermos so it stays warm in the lunchbox.
I just don't feel like spending more money than I have to, and there's the cooking in plastics/making more trash concern for me.
