Default Getting comfortable in your own skin

It's hard! I haven't been overweight in years but Im still very self conscious about certain things. How can you improve your body image?

I wish I knew! If you find out let me know. I struggle with this everyday. Sometimes I will feel good about myself and others I just feel disgusted.

maybe take pictures of your body, and compare it to old pictures. maybe even cover up your face. i've never done it but i saw a true life about body image
(haha i know mtv) but the woman had lost lots of weight and hated her body and her therapist made her look at the pictures and it seemed to help a bit.

I've found that positive self talk helps. When I look in the mirror, I don't say, OMG my thighs are fat or my arm is so jiggly. I say (aloud if it's one of "those" days) my skin is radiant today or this skirt looks fantastic on me. It's not always easy, and it took practice, but focusing on the things I like about myself is way more enjoyable than obsessing over my flaws and it helped my confidence a lot.

I like "My/I...but..." statements, not just for weight loss but for lots of areas. its a good way for me to challenge negative thoughts. So I might think "oh my god, my stomach is huge" and I would catch that thought and change it, saying "well, today I think my stomach is huge, but it is smaller than it was a year ago" or "but it is healthier than it was before" or "but i am taking steps to change that". Its helpful to reformate these thoughts, not completely disregarding them because its a subjective thing, how someone looks, but if I can change them around a bit i find i can pick up my mood and feel better about myself
