at my school there werent the best healthy options at the satelite dinning areas(because they were quick options in the buildings where classes were held, chips, candy, cold sandwhiches) however in the main dinning hall there were a ton of healthy options and a ton of unhealthy options... yes there were french fries served everday but there was also an amazing salad bar and an area called the veggie patch with tons of amazing veggie options... we also had grilled chicken and a lot of other fresh meat and fish options... It definitely was not hard to eat healthy

My school was very similar to Haley's - in the large cafeteria/dining halls there were several healthy options - you could get grilled chicken, salad (huge huge salad bar), vegetables, omelettes, etc. Yes, there was the cheesesteak/sub area, but I wasn't locked into eating fried crap. My school even has a sushi bar now...

The smaller places in the class buildings usually only had a grill for cheesesteaks/fries and a sandwich/salad counter, but still, not the most unhealthy food.

And also - the unhealthy food is cheaper - that's why there is so much of it on university campuses.

Really, I think deep down it's ourselves that we're judging when we look at someone and think, "Oh God, how can she eat that! That's more calories than she needs for the day!" We remember all those burgers, the cookies, all the times we gaped down in confusion at a suddenly empty family-sized bag of chips that we bought yesterday, etc.

I think it's easier to acknowledge the embarrassment and guilt when it's superficially aimed at other people. We look at those people, and we're not really thinking, "Why don't they know any better?" We're thinking, "Why didn't I know any better?"

Not only that, I think it's often an expression of fear being there again.

My university is HUGE but, its also mostly a commuter school so they dont have many healthy options..I guess they figure that if you want something healthy youll go off campus for it.

Same with mine. I went to CSUN, and it was pretty much all fast food, plus two junk food filled convenience stores.
