Augh! Help needed!

  • So I've been working on this weight loss/lifestyle change since August now. I was doing good... had gotten down to 192 lb, and had everything in control eating healthy and exercising. Then about mid-December I went to stay with my mom for a couple weeks, and from there it went downhill eating-wise. I was just working on getting back on track in January when right there in the beginning I got struck with a lot of financial issues because my car kept breaking down. Then I was just buying cheap food, so my eating healthy went back downhill again, and then I got sick, which lasted the duration of January and February. I had flu/bronchitis/whathaveyou, and no energy. So I was lethargic for about 2 months, and now I'm back up to 205 lbs which is where I was in October. BLAH!

Minor setback, I know, but it's so hard to get back into it. The exercise is getting easier now that I have my breath back, and I've been walking a lot each day. Today was my first day back in at C25K and I did it without coughing, so I'd say I'm back to 90% health sickness-wise. I'm just so hungry though! I forgot how hard it was to get back into the kick of eating healthy and 1300 calorie days.

I just went through my fridge and cupboards and threw away everything that would be a temptation to me. Not much; but it doesn't need to be there. Any other suggestions? I feel like I'm starting all over again.

  • Just remember how good you felt to be 192! I'm sure you had more energy and just all around felt better. I know that sometimes I get frustrated when the scale stalls... or even when it's moving but I feel like my body looks the same. I have to remind myself all the time that I would rather the scale NOT move than for it to go back up. Or for it to go down and me not see it than it to stay the same. (Hope that all made sense.) Just remind yourself that you're on the right track. You might be back to where you were last October, but you're definitely not back to where you originally started, right?

    You CAN do this!!
  • As my best friend says "every time you start again, it's the a new try all over again". I think the most important thing is to remember that. Rather than think "Oh I quit before" or "It is so difficult to go back on truck", just think of it as "Hey new attempt."

I know it sounds weird but I think what you need now is enthusiasm, enthusiasm, enthusiasm. Feel excited about the new changes in your life. Feel excited that you are becoming better at exercising again.

PS: I should also follow my advice since I am supposed to start exercising from this week, after 4 whole months of compulsory doctors' orders. I feel so panicked and overwhelmed of having to start the gym all over again.
  • I think it is important to remember that even thin people might go through times when they're weight is +/- 10 pounds with no ill effects. You get sick, you eat more, you eat less, you get super active, etc etc. So for someone on the losing path it is just a small setback on your whole journey. You just have to get right back on the horse!
  • It sounds like you've had a pretty rough go with illness. Sometimes our bodies just call the shots. You had to get better and now you can start clawing your way back into the game!

I took a break from working out but I've recently gotten the habit back. I had to tough it out for a couple of weeks until it started feeling natural again. Don't worry, it will all come back to you in due time if you keep at it
  • "You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there."

The fact that you've lost the weight before, means you KNOW you can do it again. Get a 'ticker' to track your weight loss. It keeps you excited about your journey. Congratulations on starting again.

  • Good job with going threw your cupboards!

Don't get discuraged, I know it will be sad to wait until you get back to your previous wieght. But after all that work you'll feel better. Then soon you'll surpase 192! Then you'll look back and go-it wasn't so hard I'm even farther along now. Stay possitive, you've done it before you can do it again! We are all cheering each other on, you can DO this! I'm glad that you feel better, don't worry get back on that horse and keep pushing keep going, you'll reach that future goal, every step you take is getting closer to it.
  • i fell off the wagon this past weekend, but i know the sooner i pick myself back up - the better i'll feel! keep at it, you can totally do this
  • Right. New day, new attempt. Thanks everyone! I'm feeling better about starting today. I think I'm going to make a list of short term goals.
