Default Help me get back on track...a week of BINGING!

I've gotten so off track it's depressing. I refuse to weigh because I honestly think it will make me feel worse than I already do. I can feel that I've gained weight...I can tell in the way my clothes fit and my energy level and just the way I look.

My grandfather passed away Saturday, so I ended up eating out of sadness on top of holiday eating. I was just stuffing my face. And today? Started out with two krispy kreme donuts and a coke. Go me.

I had been doing SO good. Lost 22 pounds. But now I feel like I gained it all back (I keep telling myself...that must be impossible in just a week, but I feel like I did anyway). And I'm scared that I'm going to backslide. I need motivation and encouragement...have any of you ever binged for a week??

I am so sorry to hear about your grandfather! My condolences to you and your family.

First of all I think it's great that you want to get back on track so soon! I don't think I could've in your situation.

Second, I seriously doubt that you've gained it all back (is it even possible? ), but I understand that the scale isn't tempting right now. My suggestion would be to set a date, like a week from today, where you decide that "today is the day I weigh myself. At noon. Or something like that.". This does however mean that you'll have to get back on track right now But binging didn't make you feel any better, did it? So my suggestion is that you just continue on the good path you were on.

We all stray from time to time - for me there's just been christmas; five days of food galore! And sodas! And candy! Not good - but guess what... sh*t happens - the important thing isn't whether or not you stay on track 110% of the time, it's how you deal with getting back on the ol' horse once you've fallen off it.

You can do it! I'm sure of it!

Hugs,

Annie - who ate a whole box of marzipan at work two weeksish ago. Yeah. A box. By myself. Not good. We all fall off the wagon from time to time, trust me, it'll be OK!

PS! Don't forget how massive it is to lose 22 pounds. That is ALOT of weight, and you should be _very_ proud!

You didn't gain back everything in one week that you have already lost.

You are at a real critical point right now--you can either move forward or continue to backslide. It sounds like you are ready to move forward.

The week of binging only has real significance if you let it be the thing that throws you off course. If you get right back on plan right now, the fact that you had a bad week will not matter a bit in the entire scheme of your weight loss journey. So, the binge can only really hurt you if you continue with it.

Think about how great you will feel in a week after you have been back on your plan and are back in control--the binge will be just a minor blip on the radar!

Good luck!

J

Hey thicknpretty!!!
I went through the exact same thing over Christmas. I did great - and then Christmas Eve came and I ate a cheeseburger. Nothing terrible, right? Not when you follow it up with 6 pieces of fudge, then the next morning have almost half a loaf of cinnamon chip bread... And just keep eating everything in sight for the next 48 hours. Two days after Christmas, I was like enough is enough. I was sure I had gained weight, but I weighed myself and had actually lost a pound. Now, I had probably lost some before Christmas and gained some back... But according to the previous time I'd weighed myself, I'd lost a pound. So there. But even when I truly did gain weight, I always felt better after I weighed myself because you're being honest with yourself. Yes, you slipped up (and we all do... omg I'm at the forefront of that lol!) but just forgive yourself and move on. One day of strict healthy eating and even a walk around the block will make you feel so much better about yourself (or at least, it helps me!).

Good luck, stick with it!!

Unfortunately, bingeing behaviour is something we'll struggle with all our lives. It will be hard not to turn to food when you need an outlet.

One or two bad days isn't bad, it's a large number of days of over eating that makes us gain weight. I had a great sumer, lost 15 pounds, binged and over ate for two straight months - no exercise at all - and gained back 8 pounds. Good for you for stopping at one week

Get on the scale, assess the damage, which should be minimal, and keep on goin!

I am so, so sorry about your grandfather

About the binging- ok, so you've been off plan. You've wandered off the reservation. It HAPPENS. It's our ability to get back on track and get on with it that makes all the difference in the world.

So forgive yourself and just move on.

I agree with junebug. Major props to you that you want to get back on the wagon and get back on track. Take it one day at a time. I'm so sorry to hear about your loss!

thicknpretty -- I'm so sorry to hear about losing your grandfather. That's really hard stuff, I know. Maybe instead of punishing yourself for it you should think of yourself as your own caretaker. Like, "Well, this is a really hard time for me emotionally, so I'd better really take care of my self physically to make my body as healthy as possible while my brain is grieving." Ya know what I mean?

The other thing is, there's no way you gained all the weight back in a few days. I'm not gonna lie, I'm sure you've gained back some. Just work extra hard in the weeks coming up to make up for it. We ALL make mistakes, have setbacks, etc. -- you can get through it!
