Wow! That's awesome you have high RMR (or BMR or whatever.. I don't know what's what... lol). I had no idea you could get tested to figure that out...
but maybe if i get tested and have a high number, i'll start to eat more to overcompensate too! like those damn donuts sitting by the kitchen counter that my brother bought because he can eat ANYTHING he wants and still be thin, or so it seems. UGH. |
So I did a HIIT workout this morning; run at 9mph for 30 seconds then jog for a minute at 5.2mph, repeat 7x. I bookended it with some walking and weight lifting. Here's to hoping it'll keep my metabolism elevated all weekend :)

I'm still stuck! But I tried the HIIT today in my super-hilly neighborhood, so we'll see what that does. I've tried high days, low days, super-strict days, burning over 1000 calories at the gym days, but I appear to be stuck! I was losing slowly for the last few months (at least a 1/2 lb a week, sometimes 1 or 1.5 in a really good week), and that was fine, but this trying to lose and not losing is frustrating. Makes it hard to go to the gym every single day....
Nice to know other people are having similar experiences! The one thing that has been missing the last few weeks is my one long run/walk (9-10 miles), so maybe I need to add that back into the mix! |
By just watching my intake I have been able to maintain without issue, but I haven't so much as laced up my tennis shoes since we bought our house at the end of June.
I am ready to start working on these last 10 lbs myself and DH and I signed up for our local rec center which is gorgeous. I'm finally motivated! I've had 3 30 minute HIIT sessions on the eliptical (resistance 4, incline 1 to a resistance 8, incline 10). I will incorperate 10 minute runs before and after next week to bring it up a notch. I round out my workouts with resistance bands (I'm currently rehabing a shoulder injury). I won't weigh in until tomorrow morning, but my jeans already feel loose again. It just always freaks me out when I come off an exercise break because even though I feel great I manage to still gain a few pounds (water?). |
I biked to a field about 10 min away yesterday, sprinted across it as my HIIT session... then jogged/walked around the perimeter to recover. It was nice to have a cap on, so I could pull it down and cover my crazy face as I was mad-dashing it across! Then I'd be gasping for breath like I had just been chased by a lion. I don't know what people must think when they see me doing this, but who cares!
Today I woke up and felt SO TIRED. but my dad wanted to go for a run, and when he runs it's super slow and relaxed, so I went along and had a nice time. Definitely still tired though. Dunno what workout I'll do tomorrow... My scale dipped a fraction this morning, but I know it'll dip back up soon enough. It's you and me, Plateau, and I'm gonna win eventually! ...right? lol |
I started both HIIT and the Shred yesterday. I'm very determined to get rid of these last few pounds!
I completed a 10-min HIIT session yesterday since the gym was closing. I went from 140 strides/minute (incline 8, resistance 8) for a minute and a half to 180 strides/minute (incline 8, resistance 10) for one minute. Aside from the session time, should I make any changes? I'm going to try a 20-min. session tomorrow. |
I did something I've never done before - I made fish! I went to Findlay Market this morning and bought some fresh tilapia and salmon, along with some spices from the Colonel (the Colonel and his spices are a Cincinnati treasure). I'm still getting used to the texture of fish, but it tasted pretty good. Barely any "fishyness" from the spices or the lemon that I put on top in the oven.
Fish is good for weight loss, I think. Or at least the change should be good. Junebug - I'm jealous that you can maintain without exercise - I don't think that would work for me. Chicken & Civakas - I'm going to do my normal elliptical and the HIIT at the gym tonight. Hopefully between that and the fish my body will start burning fat again ;) |
Awesome, glad to hear other people are doing HIIT! Makes me feel better, knowing I'm not suffering alone... lol... I really do not look forward to them. I'm still deciding if I should do one tomorrow, or give it a rest until the next day. I don't want to burn out so early in the game.
Last night I went out for a family dinner and had a bit of 3 different kinds of cake/ice cream and I was going to skip weighing myself this morning, but I did it anyway, and I was so surprised to see I had LOST a pound! I totally expected to gain... does that mean I have can cake everyday?? ;) Civakas - from what I've heard, it is nearly impossible to maintain such high intensity for a whole minute. At the most, maybe 30 seconds, which I can't do (I can only do maybe 10-15 seconds of sprinting for now). I read an interesting article online the other day, not sure how legitimate this guy is, but worth a read anyway: http://www.brinkzone.com/training-pr...ally-doing-it/ But any type of interval training has similar effects and is better than staying in your comfort zone all the time, so I think you should keep doing what you're doing... don't fix it if it ain't broke, right? I believe HIIT is the extreme form of interval training, which is why it's such an effective way to burn fat because your body is desperate for fuel to recover from it, so it starts to burn fat first, instead of carb calories. It raises your metabolism and changes the way your body uses its resources at cell-level. That's what's got me so intrigued. We can become fat-burning machines! :) Aurora - way to go with exploring fish! I LOVE the combination of salmon and lemon & herbs. The other day I made tuna steaks (just some salt & pepper, on a frying pan) and they were delicious. Super easy, too. |
Chickennugget, thanks for the article, that was really helpful. I was on the elliptical for 50 min. prior, so I don't think I was giving it my all. I'll try it out again today.
