How do they do it?
The skinny girls who drink every weekend and then eat pizza/junk food after drinking. How do they not gain weight? I know some people genetically have fast metabolisms, but ALL of my friends do this(not just the skinny ones, the normal weight ones too) and it's not like most of them are super healthy during the week, they eat lots of pizza and Mexican during the week too. And then consume 1000s of calories in alcohol each weekend. Can they all have superman metabolisms? Is there some secret I am missing?lol
Does anyone else get frustrated with this? |
It isn't fair really that we gain so fast while they can pig out and not gain 1lb, but as you said some of them genetically can't gain much and I guess others are just super active. I guess we'll have to wait for scientists to discover the secret, mass produce it in pill form and place it on shelves so we can all share the benefits :p

I mean I have to admit, alcohol has never really factored hugely into my weight loss; I have lost, gained, and maintained with it. Probably because I use diet mixers and don't drink a whole lot.
It's the junk food that bothers me. Maybe I just found every person on campus with a fast metabolism and befriended them ;) |
I used to be that way back in the good ole days! Now I just look at that pizza and it jumps onto my hips!!!

I consider it one of life's mysteries... and on my truly nasty days I remind myself that even the fastest metabolisms slow with age. It's uncharitable I know but it keeps me from thinking that these people somehow live a charmed life.
And remember that skinny doesn't necessarily mean healthy. A prolonged diet of booze and pizza impacts one's overall nutritional health and that can impact sleep and alertness during the day, brain functions, hair and nail and skin health... all sorts of things. So work at being healthy and the skinny will take care of itself. But yeah, it gets to me too sometimes. |
It frustrates me daily...I have a busy social life which is TERRIBLY difficult when you are trying to be good. I have some friends that have incredible will power and will go out with us, have rum and diet, and be fine. Others will pig out BUT will go the gym the next day and KILL themselves in cardio.
I think it depends on age too. When I was younger, I had friends that would eat all the time and never gain. Now that we're older...yeah not the same story. Your body changes. The key is not to compare yourself with anyone else (I did this often)...your body is different and you have to embrace it. If it means, you have to put more effort in the gym then oh well but at least you can have that mexican too. :D Take the good with the bad I guess ya know... |
Sad thing is, I AM in the good ole days haha. I'm only 20(almost, one more month)! I understand that being skinny=healthy and that in the long run trying to manage my weight through diet and exercise is far better for my health. It's still so frustrating though!

This may not be the case in the people you're talking about, but I have a friend who eats CRAP! Full fat lasagna with garlic cheese bread and broccoli with cheese sauce followed by a super sugary dessert. However, I struggle when I go over there to eat only one slice of lasagna, eat as much broccoli I can with as little cheese as possible, and no garlic cheese bread while she loads her plate up, eats about 1/3 of her piece of lasagna, 1/2 a piece of garlic cheese bread and a little broccoli. And she never finishes her dessert, either.
So while she's not healthy by any means, she eats much smaller quantities of foods than I. So I'd rather eat a really big veggie salad with a little cheese and dressing while she eats her 2 chicken mcnuggets and 10 french fries. Oh, and to put some perspective on it, she thought she needed to lose 10 lbs. and her dr. said that she needs to lose 20. And she has high blood pressure. |
I know. i get frustrated at that ALL the time. but bodies work in different ways. I guess.

Well, back in the day I ate anything I wanted and drank as much and as often as I wanted and look what happened to me . One day I stepped on my scale (something I rarely did ) and saw that I was over 200 pounds and 5 feet tall, not what you would call cute or healthy. It catches up with you. So I would say don't envy those girls and guys who eat and drink anything they want, they may not always get away with it.

eumie is exactly right.
I watch all these people at school eat all this crap...but they buy these bags of chips, eat a few...share the rest... Go out to eat...eat 1/2 and never finish She is exactly right. However, I would rather eat healthier foods which I can eat more of because they are lower in calories then 1/2 a dinner. 4 cups of veggies and a seasoned chicken breast takes me much further than 10 chips and a small slice of pizza. And I also agree that this is not good for their over-all health. Eating that way is so harmful to your body...geeze YOU are on the right track...I know it *isn't fair* but actually, they should be jealous of you for being able to say *NO*!! |
I never get upset over this because I know that half of those girls are "skinnyfat."
Some women can look extremely thin but have much much higher body fat percentage and be on their way to loads of health problems in the future. Also, I'm willing to bet most of them have the upper body strength of a new born kitten. |
It isn't fair that we cant eat whatever we want, but to be honest I am glad that we have to work for it. I know very small girls that may be small in size but are terrible unhealthy. They cant even keep up with me walking at a normal stroll. Just because your small doesn't mean you are healthy.

I know that skinny and healthy aren't the same thing(I don't know why my earlier post says skinny=healthy. Chalk it up to cold medicine?) but the little shallow part of me sometimes wishes it would be nice to not be constantly judged even though I am healthier than they are.
Also, it bugs me to death when these girls complain about my "weight obsession". Just because I have to work for it. |
I understand your frustrations! A few of my skinny/average weight friends eat more/drink more than me, and they don't exercise. I am totally jealous. My metobolism stinks
