Hi there!

  • Hey there!

I just wanted to take a second to introduce myself. I'm Mel, and I'm a 25 year old living in the Northern Va suburbs of Washington DC. I'm about 5'7" and weighed in at 239 lbs yesterday morning. I started at 246 on July 27th.

I'm really excited to find this board! I have a lot of support from friends and family, but even with their support, it's hard if they don't "get" it. My goal weight is 150 (which will make me really toned and athletic). Facing an almost 100 lbs weight loss is overwhelming, and unless you're in the same boat, it's nearly impossible to know what I'm going through. I'm so excited to find a place with people facing the same fight

    Just wanted to say hi!!

  • Hi Etudes!

It's great you have a wonderful supportive group even if they don't understand 100%.

It is a long road but don't think of it as 100 pounds to lose. We started with about the same stats (I'm 5' 7" and started at 245) but I try to think of it as 10lbs at a time. I sometimes give myself little time goals, significant dates but I've been finding those annoy me so... 10 lbs at a time it is!

There's a ton of support and information within the 3FC forums. Good luck on your journey!
  • Thanks TXJess.

I do have goals set for myself! At...

    230: I get a massage
210: I'm taking a day trip through Amish country with a friend
190: I'm taking a weekend to visit a friend in New England
170: I'm taking a weekend wine tour through Va with my best friend (We looove wine!)
150: My goal weight! I'm going sky diving...or on a fabulous beach trip to somewhere in the Carribbean.

I decided to take trips, rather than buy myself things, because THINGS break, become outdated, I lose them, whatever. I want fun times and good memories with my favorite people.

And I didn't want to make buying clothes a treat, since I plan on buying smaller sizes as I back into them. Frumpy clothes make me feel like crap and when I feel like crap, I don't want to work out!
  • Welcome!

When you reach your goal I suggest skydiving WHILE you're in the Caribbean Better scenery!

Definitely stick around, there are plenty of people here to support you!
  • Blueiris6, that's a great idea!

I've been blogging my weight loss too, but apparently I have to get to 25 posts before I can include a link to anything...I think I've got like, 18 more to go!
  • Welcome Mel!

I think your goal ideas are great! To tell you the truth I haven't made any minigoals yet but your ideas have me more enthused about making some

Good luck with your weightloss and congrats on the pounds you have already lost!
  • Thanks!

Now that I've reached my 25 posts, I can include my blog (the site wouldn't let me post a URL at first). I've been blogging at www.lifesanetude.wordpress.com since I started--please check it out if you're interested! I love comments--compliments keep me going and criticisms keep me honest/working hard, so comment away!

I'm so glad I got into blogging! It's so much more cathartic (and less calorie filled!) than delving into a bag of Oreos...though no quite as tasty for some reason...
  • WELCOME MEL! I love your mini goals. And Wow, skydiving! It is on my life list, but I don't know if I will ever be able to gather up the courage to do it. This is a great site, so keep coming back to it! Good luck with your journey!
  • Welcome! I really enjoyed reading your blog, very insightful and funny.
