Oh man, this made me laugh and cringe. From 50-60 my mother hated being offered a senior citizens discount. She would even sometimes cry when it first started happening. It mostly seemed to happen at movie theaters so I started making damn sure I was the one at the ticket window and that I asked for 2 Adult Tickets.
After that experience, I view offering someone a senior citizens discount as almost like asking if they're pregnant. I would never be able to do it by guess, and I can't imagine being forced to by a job... ugh.
