7 day Caffeine Flush

  • A little background - the other night I went to see HP at midnight and I think I kind of overloaded on caffeine for the day. In the morning I had an iced coffee, then Starbucks, then at night before the movie I had one of those extra-large huge McDonald's iced coffees. I woke up the next morning after 2.5 hours of sleep and the thought of caffeine made me want to vomit. My body was just like NO MORE. I managed to make it through all day yesterday without caffeine - and to repeat - that was on 2.5 hours of sleep. I just had water and 1 bottle of vitamin water for the b12 in the morning.

I woke up this morning and figured I'd try to do without it for 7 days just to see if I could. I don't drink soda, diet or otherwise, so really the big thing would be cutting out coffee and tea.

I'm going to count yesterday as Day 1.

Today is Day 2 and I've already gotten through most of the day without it, and I'm not sleepy.
  • ooooo what a good idea! I think I may join you. Does diet green tea in the bottles have caffeine.... if not - then I'm on day 2 also

I drink so much diet soda.... I need to get energy the natural way.
  • I've been addicted to caffeine so bad that I took caffeine pills every morning, and if I forgot, I would have a headache until I got caffeine one way or the other. I have given it up several times and always have a headache for the first 2-3 days after... but after eliminating it, I felt so liberated and happy to say I am no longer addicted! I now get an iced caramel latte from Dunkin Donuts every now and then as a treat or if I need an extra boost... made with skim milk and no whip cream. yum. Good luck to both of you on your caffeine free journey!
  • when i had my little girl i had complications with my epidural- they punctured my spinal column sack thing- so basically i was leaking spinal fluid. they put me on a caffeine drip - yes, they literally hooked me up to an IV of caffeine (and i was NURSING!) - to shrink the capillaries and help reduce the spinal headaches i was getting from the effects of the leaking spinal fluid.

for about 3 days straight i was on that caffeine drip and i was drinking as much dr. pepper and pepsi as possible. it worked... those headaches were so horrible it felt like my brain was going to fall out my *** so i was willing to try ANYTHING to stop them. but i was not much of a soda/caffeine drinker prior to that experience.

for almost 2 years since then, i was then addicted to pepsi! you would think an experience like that would make you say NO MORE CAFFEINE! but i just couldn't get enough.

last month i said NO MORE. and went cold turkey. i have had 1 dr pepper and 1 diet pepsi since then, with no real relapse or even cravings. i just decided i wasn't going to have it anymore. and i feel soooo much better! it's weird how crappy it made me feel and i didn't realize it until i said NO MORE! hahaha

I'm not sure. Hm. I know Green Tea does have caffeine, but not sure about the soda.
  • During my old ways I was a soda addict (diet soda, but still)...The caffeine addition was crazy, if I didn't have it I would get totally sick with withdrawal symtoms...I had at least 6 months where I did not regularly ingest caffeine...and it did not really have an effect on me! So I started drinking coffee again, because it does have its benefits (for me)...I guess it's best not to over do it though.
  • you are much braver than I! ive got a serious coffee addiction. if i dont have at least 3 cups a day i get a killer headache. back in the day i was spending 100$ a month at starbucks! now i make my coffee at home, but cant imagine not having it in my life. i dread the day i get preggers and have to cutoff the caffeine supply.

but kudos to you for making this positive change. i hope the 2 days breeze by!
  • If you are meaning the diet lipton green tea it most definately has caffeine...lots of it. I drink it all the time though
  • Good luck on staying away from caffeine. I used to drink soda (not diet, I can't stand the aftertaste) every day. At least 8 ounces a day. When I decided to start eating healthy, I gave that up first. I was taking in so many calories just by drinking it, not to mention the sugar and all the other stuff is pretty bad for the body. Anyhow, I gave it up. It's been almost three months caffeine/soda free. As blondeblueeyedbeauty said, I was so addicted I went through serious withdrawls. For two straight weeks I had splitting migraines and dozed off about once every day. For those two weeks I slept more every single night than I have in a long, long time. I decided not to give in and to just keep going... needless to say, I made it. I guess I'm lucky in that I never really cared for coffee and it actually upsets my stomach... Either way, I know that you ladies can do it!
