Pants Size Frustrations (vent)
Okay, I think one of the more frustrating things about losing weight is clothing sizes. I feel like I am between sizes 80% of the time! My 14 pants have been too big for weeks, and 12s are still too tight!
The other frustrating thing is the effect body shape has on sizes. For instance, my sister is 3 inches shorter than I am and weighs 5 lbs more than I do, and yet she is a size 10 pants while I am not fitting into 12s. Sigh. Does anyone else have frustrating size issues they want to vent about? |
I'm with you sister.
I think that the one form of torture left is pant sizes. I'm in my size 14's and they are swimming on me, but I KNOW that the 12's still won't fit right. I hate wearing clothes that don't fit. hate hate hate. But I'd rather be wearing bigger clothes than not being able to breathe. |
I completely agree about the clothing thing. I bought basically a whole new summer wardrobe about six weeks ago... Now all of those clothes are a little too big, but not big enough to buy a size smaller.
|
I'm an inch shorter than you and a good 30 lbs heavier and I wear size 14 pants. So, I'm just as lost as you are. :?:
|
And how come size charts tell me I should be buying 14s when I can pull off my size 12 jeans without unbuttoning them now (even right after they've come out of the dryer!)?

Lululemon!
Or.. if you're American, whatever company is similar! There's a Canadian company called Lululemon that sells the most fantastic yoga pants in existence. Which sounds lame, but.. they sell them in awesome patterns, like.. pinstripe! I wear my pinstripe yoga pants to work, and people think they're dress pants. They're fabulous, and fit me inbetween sizes, so I can gain/lose a little, and it's no biggie! http://cgi.ebay.com/Lululemon---Fitn...0619184004r140 Those are the pin stripe ones. http://www.lululemon.com/ That's the website. I always go for ones with flared bottoms, they make my big ol' thighs look smaller! :D |
I've been wearing skirts and dresses non stop for the last few months because pants are just so frustrating right now. Nothing fits correctly!
|
Pants can be annoying. I have "strong" legs, so if something fits in the waist and seat, it will be tight across my thighs. It is really annoying, especially since I will not wear pants that gap in the back. I must have tried on 40 pairs a jeans before I found one that worked.
|
AGH, i feel like I haven't worn a pair of pants that fit in years. Whether it be the fact that I'm always yoyoing between weights or that I buy pants so they aren't at all tight on my waist which means they absolutely BILLOW everywhere else (making me look like a very stumpy legged freak). I am really hoping losing weight means I'll finally be able to get a pair of jeans that fits EVERYWHERE!!
|
The fact that me and my 2 best friends all wear a size 14 is the real problem with pants. I am 5 feet 6 inches, one friend is 4 feet 11 inches and the other is 6 feet! How could all of us possibly try on the same pair of pants and have any hope of looking good?!?!
|
I've been wearing lots of dresses lately. Everyone at work is like why are you all dressed up? And I'm like b/c my darn pants are falling off. Gr.
|
Lulu lemmon makes any body look amazing!!
I used to wear my black yoga pants to work and no one ever noticed either! |
It frustrating I know. What makes it more frustrating is when you go from one brand to another. I wear 20 for the most part. I swim in them, but 18 is just to tight. But I have a couple of 18s in another brand that are falling off me. I wish 18 for one cut/style/brand meant the same everywhere. I just deal with the fact that I won't have great fitting pants, and make sure to wear a belt!
|
yup its very frustrating. Ive found a couple of stores here that do inbetween sizes like 9s and 13s which are a god send, but they are few and far between
|
I keep thinking I should get out my old sewing machine and just fix the pants I have, but it just seems like my body is changing so quickly that they'd be fitting funny again in a few days.
I'm seriously hoping that once I lose some more weight, my stomach will catch up with my skinny legs and pants will fit more normally. |
I thought i was the only one. LOL. It drives me insane to be between sizes. I tend to wear the bigger size until the smaller one would fit. I refuse to wear pants too small. I really hate the muffin top effect. Not to mention my waist hates me after 30 minutes of being squished to death. Thank goodness for belts...
|
Looks like it must be something with that 12-14 size range lol. My 14s are too big but 12s too tight. Alas...I will continue to wear saggy bottom jeans :)
|
I hear ya!
It drives me nuts because my upper body is smaller than my lower body.... I'm definitely pear shaped and it's INCREDIBLY hard to find any kind of jeans that actually will feel comfortable on me without making me feel like my breath is being choked out of me or I've got a huge muffin top! I wear tons of skirts, yoga pants, pajama pants, and goucho pants..... but god, I'm longing for the day that I can fit into a pair of jeans comfortably again.... but that was when I was about 170, and I've definitely got a while to go. *sigh* |
Right there with you gals. It's frustrating to say the least. Seems the people who made the jeans would come to their senses and make inbetween sizes. *sigh*
|
Jelbb - LOVE Lululemon! Gives anyone an instant butt lift :D
|
i have the same problem, so i just stick with big pants ... and hopefully those tight ones will fit one day
|
I'm a cheap, broke college student so it's the same here. Until they're falling off, I'm not getting new ones (plus I've got plenty of smaller sized jeans). Now if my dear mother decides I just need them, new story! ;)
|
I just ordered some very cheap size 12s from old navy, so I can have them to try on, and that way when I DO fit into 12s I'll know right away.
Sometimes I feel like I'm nuts, but oh well. |
I am all in on the frustration! I have a pair of 14s that are too big in the waist, but tight in the rear end - how does that happen?! As a previous poster put it.. I'd rather swim in my jeans than not be able to sit or breathe!
HOORAY for not fitting our pants!!! haha. |

I'm a textbook apple. Lots of belly, no butt at all. |
I've got the same problem Ruby. There's so much extra fabric around my butt and legs. I've always had thin legs in comparison to my stomach.
|
At least it's not just me. I am wearing size 12 in Dockers and Lee dress type pants. My 14 jeans are pretty darn loose at this point but 12 jeans are just too tight. Why can I wear 12 in dockers but not jeans?
I have a class reunion this weekend and basically I'm screwed so far as clothes, nothing fits right. I finally bought a pair of 12 docker capris and a new shirt for the "formal" night. The whole thing is casual dress but I would like to look cute for the main event ya know? I'm also plateauing right now and have lost practically nothing in June despite being almost POP for the whole month! It's great to be smaller but no clothes is driving me crazy! |
I always wished that women's jeans were sized like men's using a waist and length measurement. I understand that woman have hips so it might be a little tricky but how hard would it be to maybe just have those sizes and classify them as apple, pear, etc. shapes? I know that Fashion Bug and Lane Bryant do the True Fit jeans but even they are misleading as they classify the sizes as 1, 2, 3. etc. instead of an actual waist measurement. Maybe they think women like these "smaller" #'s but seriously I don't think ANYONE would mistakenly think I wear a Jr size!!!!
BTW thanks for posting the Yoga pants, they are so nice looking. A little pricey for me but nothing I couldn't save up for! |
Heck yes! I'm in between sizes right now depending on where I shop. I'm anywhere from a 16 to a 20. It's really making me mad! I can't get a good gage on what I'm losing except for in clothes that I already own. I'm having a hard time finding basics that will fit me. I just want a white button down shirt people! Without ruffles or puffy sleeves or weird designs. How about a black summer jacket I can wear to work? NOPE.
How about just a t-shirt?? Nope can't find one that isn't either too baggy, which makes it slide down and show too much of my chest, or too tight which shows the spare tire. GRRRRRRRRRRR |

Am I still going to have this problem when I'm skinnier, or will my stomach size someday be a normal proportion to the sizes of my butt and legs? I hope it's the latter. |
A long time ago, the Gap used to have white button downs.
|
I can usually find plain white button shirts at Khols. Or you can find really expensive ones at Macy's.
|
I've been stewing about this for a while, and now I need new jeans so it's really bugging me again: why does Gap make their "curvy" fit jeans with little pocket flaps and big buttons on the butt?? It's like, thank you, I'm already curvy, I don't need your stupid pocket flaps to accentuate my already overly-accentuated butt, thank you very much! This was last year when I bought jeans there, and I even asked a salesperson about it, and she said all the curvy fits had them, no matter what style. Hopefully this season they make some curvy options without a$$-accentuaters :sp:
|
OMG!!!! I am totally with you on this one forestroad. I love the curvy fit but hate the pockets on the butt. It is just ugly and accentuates the big butt i already have. We should write to them or start a petition. Hahahaha. I love that you thought the exact same thing. That is why i didn't buy the jeans.
|
I decided to briefly revive this thread so I could vent a frustration.
Last night I did my measurements to try to figure out what size I am for sure in Gap clothing, and according to the sizing chart on the Gap website, my waist is size 14, my hips are size 6, and my thighs are size 4. ?!?!?!!?!?!? |
I was just venting about this in the weekly chat. I just bought 2 pairs of jeans from Gap, different cuts, one pair is a size 12, the other size 10, and they fit exactly the same. The only difference is the 12s have a slightly longer rise and an inch more room in the hip, even though the waistbands are the same.
|
oooh I hate pants shopping just for this matter. I have a, let's say rounder tummy and hips then my thighs, so if they fit on my tummy area they are too big on my thighs and vis versa.
and I wont dare wear low rise jeans. oh no, thye have to at least go mid rise. le sigh. . . My sister says I know how to wear my clothes well to hide my weight. compliment? sure.:smug: |
I have to wear low rise jeans. I don't even like them. Sadly, my hips are 14 inches bigger than my waist, so nothing else will ever fit. If it can go over my butt, the waist will just be hanging. :(
Also, I am another one living in "in-between" land. I gave up and gave my old jeans to charity and just decided not to get any more until it started to get colder and forced me to. Right now, I'm living in 90+ degree weather with 90% humidity. It is like living in a heated aquarium. Jeans are pretty much out of the question right now unless I want to die of heat exhaustion. |

Any pants that are mass made are never going to be sized correctly because of the way they cut the fabrics en mass. You can try on 3 pairs of the same exact "sized" jeans and they will all fit differently. I take several pairs in different sizes and see which fits best.
And I definitely have the too much thighs/butt compared to waist issue going on as well. I will always have to wear a belt I think. SO annoying. |
