Mantras

Do you guys have any workout mantras? Like things you repeat to yourself when you're too tired to continue moving.
I'm looking for some new things to say to myself. (I usually do these in sync of my steps on the elliptical)

I say the following:

Everyday in everyway my butt is getting smaller
Everyday in everyway I'm making healthy choices
My waist, my hips, my butt, their getting smaller

I know they're silly, but saying them in rhythm with my steps really helps me focus and stay on longer:)

Usually it's just "5 more minutes..."

Im the same as you angeline ! when im running up this big hill near my house doing hill sprints,i look down at my thighs and think every step they are shrinking!!haha

I keep telling myself to "Shut up and just do it" lol....lately i've been getting stitches during my workout and I feel like i have to give up but I keep pushing through..lol..and telling myself! Just like some sort of Nike commercial haha

I dunno if it's really a mantra, but there's one certain song that really pumps me up while on the elliptical, it's framing henley's version of "lollipop". Don't ask me why, but I listen to it over and over again the whole time i'm on the elliptical, and I speed up when the chorus speeds up. It helps to keep me focused and gives me a challenge as well.

"Just keep swimming, swimming, swimming" -- sometimes that keeps me going, it's from Finding Nemo

Usually, and this is NOT a good thing, I look at the clock on the machine I'm on or on my watch, and figure out how many minutes left, and try to mentally break it into smaller chunks. I don't recommend b/c then it feels like it takes forever.

I make excuses for why I don't have time and then I yell at myself in my head and tell myself, "30 minutes minimum, really, how long is 30 minutes you lazy a$$." That usually gets me going. LOL! That and the thought that, I'm here making excuses for not doing it but tomorrow something that's actually important might come up and I really might not be able to so I better get it done while I KNOW I can.

It's not really a mantra, but everytime I'm running, I imagine Jillian Michaels yelling at me. One of my favourite quotes is, "Unless you faint, puke or die, keep walking!" I just substitute the walking with running.

sindy9001 04-09-2009 07:51 AM

If these words work on you! keep it on!

blissclaire 04-09-2009 07:56 AM

LOL, I think I would be scared s***less if Jillian were yelling at me when I was working out. I think it would work too, because the wrath of Jillian would be worse than dying!

sxulcmnky 04-09-2009 08:26 AM

mine's the same... 5 more minutes... get through it

SweetScrumptious 04-09-2009 10:20 AM

mines just plain and simple - "you can do it!"

I should try some of you ladies' mantras, they sound more catchy than mine!

I sometimes imagine some outrageous scenario where I'm a kick-a$$ martial arts expert in an insane flying battle sequence, or I'm on Dancing with the Stars in a spectacularly tacky sequined figure-hugger, or I'm a gun fighter in the legendary old West chasing bad guys down on my noble steed. You know, something action packed that would give you an adrenaline high. My daydreams make the quarter miles go by in a snap.

brooksrm 04-09-2009 11:16 AM

tkm, I'm an avid reader of fantasy books and sometimes I do imagine I'm out to chase down the bad guy on foot somewhere! Or climbing a mountain (evil elliptical, diediedie) or what have you.

I remind myself that the weight CAN come back. It makes me move faster. It was raining this morning but warm. It was a great morning to read a book. I made myself put on my gear and go run though. It felt liberating as it does most mornings--almost like nothing can stop me.
