Stretch Marks

Hi all-

Just wondering what you use to get rid of stretch marks? I have awful stretch marks on my belly and arms.

kodama 03-15-2009 12:15 AM

I'm not sure you can get rid of them. Maybe if they are small? I have a lot from a medication I take. The smaller ones fade in time and aren't very noticeable. The larger one's I think will be there for life. I have noticed that weight lifting really helps tighten the skin and the ones on the upper arms look much better. Cheaper than buying creams that probably won't work.

I have never tried it, but I heard that BIO OIL helps minimize the appearance of them.

I have this same problem, and I have yet to find anything that really helps... I think the whole reason I got mine was because I am not good at remembering to moisturize my skin...egh, they're less noticeable when summer comes and I'm all tan!

i have a bunch too, and i've done tons of research on it...the most common way i've found is through weight lifting. Of course everyone says oils, like cocoa butter and such, but i believe this only reduces the appearance, but they will still be there all bright and shiny...I've been lifting consistently for 3 months now, and i have a high concentration on my belly, and i'm starting to see them fade, so I'm hoping by the time i hit goal, they will be non exsistant, we'll see..>.Good Luck!

I had a lot on my belly and love handles when I was at my highest weight. They have slowly faded as I lost weight. They are barely noticeable anymore.

I have found that the only thing that has worked for me is time. My stretch marks were horrible on my stomach from pregnancy. Now they have faded a whole lot. No miracle cream that I have found yet... I wish though. :)

I think they are pretty much there to stay.I also have many.Physicians all say they will never go away. Its kinda like when you stretch saran wrap, the skin integrity is gone.I think laser treatment will also only minimize them.To get rid of them you need to have them removed surgically...which then leaves a scar.A physician once told me "embrace them, they are your war wounds".LOL

I think the coco butter and lotion is used to prevent new ones..and btw, I heard you can get them when you lose weight as well as gain. I was horrified. It rubs the lotion on it's skin or else it gets stretch marks again, hee hee. Anyway, I'm not positive that's true, but I don't like to take chances. Since I've used lotion everyday I haven't had one in quite awhile...and I gained 50+lbs during that time. The getting rid of part I'm not sure about. I do think they will fade so they're not that ugly purple. Maybe google it a bit and see what comes up. Good luck :)

Lol, yeah, I lost about 10 lbs from 176ish to 166.

Imagine my surprise when I started getting stretchmarks on my stomach during weight loss! :(

Oftentimes you can have gotten stretch marks that aren't noticeable while the skin is pulled tight from fat... and then when you lose that fat, you get the lovely purple-red line. Awesome.

I haven't found anything epic to get rid of them, but every one I've ever had has faded to the point that it's not that obvious, so I hope you don't stress about them TOO much!

vitamin e

my mom use to rub vitamin E capsules on my brother's scars. she would open up a gel capsule and then the oil would come out. I don't know I guess its worth a try if nothing else works.

I have used bio oil and copper peptide cream (super cop from Skin Biology). Personally, I have more faith in the copper peptide cream but it's expensive. My stretch marks have really faded (but some of that is probably just due to the passage of time).

I hear that there are laser treatments that can be effective, but I'm not planning on trying that.

mine have faded to white lines as I lost. I like to think that they're hardly visible now, so I would recommend time and weight loss.

Thanks for everyone's input! I have been moisturizing like crazy. I guess I will have to learn to love 'em!
