In the past week I have decided that tea is the answer to all my problems! Well not really but it has become the most effective way for me to cease all the mindless snacking I do at night especially. Also I find during work, it keeps hunger at bay.
I am wondering is there such a thing as too much tea? I try to keep the tea's with caffeine to a minimum, I drink 2 green teas in the morning and generally only herbal teas after that. I something have one cup of orange pekoe as well which I know has caffeine. I guess I am wondering because I have heard tea is a diruetic and I was wondering if drinking a lot of tea is going to dehydrate me??
tea is a diuretic, but at the same time it is mostly water, so you are still hydrating your body. Generally tea is pretty good for you, so i wouldnt worry.
I need a snack, and you've inspired me to make a cup of tea! I got really obsessed for a while and started buying all different flavors. Trader Joe's Blackberry tea is my favorite. I definately think it's fine as long as you have some water during the day too - especially if it's going to keep you from midnight snacking.

It's the best thing! Seriously, a cup of orange pekoe with a touch of sugar will stifle any sweet craving you have.
Caffeine is a diuretic. The tea itself is just like any other liquid. you can even count it towards your water for the day.
I drink what amounts to about 6 cups of green tea a day. Iused to drink 1-2 cups of coffee a day and replacing it with tea has made me feel a lot better.
Edit: Oh God I LOVE orange pekoe. I need to get some more.
Good Earth tea (the decaf version) is what got me through my sweet cravings in the beginning. It doesn't need any extra sweetener either. It has cinnamon and cloves in it, so it naturally tastes sweet. Lately I've been drinking Madagascar Vanilla, which is rooibos and vanilla. It's so yummy!
I think as long as you are watching the caffeine, then it's not a big deal. Tea does have much less caffeine than coffee does, so the amount you are drinking doesn't seem excessive to me.
Too much tea? There's no such thing as too much tea, unless you drink so much that it overwhelms the ion balance of your body, which would take a lot of effort. I'm a tea addict too--especially since I impulsively declared I was cutting out diet sodas.
i heard that you would have to drink a load of tea to get a noticable diuretic effect from it? Dunno how accurate that is. As an Englishwoman i say there is no such thing as too much tea I might make myself a cup now actually

It depends on the person. I've been drinking at least four cups a day since I was eight, so I know I can drink a ton of it without ill effect; however, if you've never drank caffeinated beverages, it could be a potential problem.
its the Caffine in the tea that is the diuretic. not the tea its self. if you are drinking caffine-free tea, it should be fine you'll have nothing to worry about.
I'm completely addicted to tea, my desk is full of it. My co-workers snack all day (god so tempting!) I'm surrounded by granola bars (the chocolate chip kind) fun size candy bars of all varieties, instant cocoa mixes, and doritos, doritos, doritos.
The water cooler at work is right next to my cubicle so I go though about a box of tea a week.
This week has mostly been Bigelow Constant Comment Green.
I have earned my username. I drink at least half a gallon of tea a day. Black, green, white, herbal, flavored, plain. Anything but that powered stuff. Most of my liquid intake is in the form of tea. I very rarely drink water straight up. And this has been going on for decades.
If it were possible to drink too much tea, I would be dead.
Edit: Ok, this is the 20's something forum, and I'm in my fourties. But if you talk about tea, you are in my domain.
