Default I signed up for a "good food box"--does your school have one?

Hey chicks,
Today I signed up for a "good food box" through my university's student union. Once a month these boxes are delivered to the campus and contain a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables grown by local farmers. They had different sizes to choose from--I paid for a box worth $15 and on February 25 I will get it. I think this is a great idea to support local farmers, the environment, and healthy eating.

I don't know if other universities or community organizations offer this service but I thought I'd tell you all about it in case you're interested.

That's awesome! Sort of like a CSA

I'm perplexed that with all the money students are charged for meal plans they can't just buy from local farmers and offer more "organic" selections in the cafeterias.

Yeah, so true Junebug. The student union also has a little cafe where they sell healthy lunches, but most of the food places on campus are the typical fast food stuff, contracted out to one of those big cafeteria companies. Anyway, I live off campus so this kind of box system is great.. I will take it home with me.

I won't even get into the garbage they served at my college.

If your school doesn't offer such a program, you still might be able to find a CSA, which is similar, at http://www.localharvest.org

I had never heard of a CSA before but what a GREAT idea! I wonder if we have this in Canada. When I am out of school and not getting a "good food box" anymore, I will so look into doing that!

Awww, that sounds so freakin' cool! My school definitely doesn't have anything like that. I'm jealous.
