Default Questions about Protein Shakes

Hi Chicks!!

I recently started WW and have been trying to work out as much as possible. My main problem is having breakfast, Im usually not very hungry until 11am. I am afraid that Im ruining my metabolism so I was looking into having a protein shake in the mornings.

Would this be a good option for weight loss? What kind of protein is best?

Aimee

Every morning I make a protein shake for breakfast. Use Whey protein. It is the best. I make mine with a scoop of chocolate flavored protein powder and 2 cups of non-fat milk. Fair warning: It's not that filling. I usually eat a bowl of oatmeal about 2 hours after I drink the shake as a mid-morning "snack".

Whey Protien Shakes are a good source of protien. It would be ok I think to drink one with fat free milk in the morning. You might have to go look at calories and fat and fiber to calculate the points for a shake.

I use EAS whey protein but I only use it after my workouts b/c 2 scoops are 46 grams of protein. I do it with a cup of 2% organic milk.

I make my eggs the night before and heat them up in the morning. It's not a huge meal but it's enough to get my body started in the morning, but that's just me.

Aimee- everyone is different. For me, I'm muscle building and working out a lot. With my weight I consume at least 150-200 grams of protein a day. But I also way over 100 pounds more than you. I think most experts say that for every two pounds you way you need a gram of protein. If you weigh 170, you roughly need 85 grams.

How many cals for you eat a day?

HWGA-On WW I eat around 23 points a day. Im not sure exactly how many calories that is but id assume its around 1200.

I just started working out again- spinning, kickbox, step. SHould I use it after my workout instead of breakfast?

According to this method, a person weighing 150 lbs. should eat 55 grams of protein per day, a 200-pound person should get 74 grams, and a 250-pound person, 92 grams.

Found this online...

Also it says yes to much protien can be bad for your liver..

I'm no expert by any means. I just know what I've learned and also my trainer too. You need to eat protein after you work out. It doesn't matter what it is. I know me, and I aint eating nothing after I've had an intense workout for at least an hour so the protein shake helps me get my protein. It's debatable for sure. Some people say you need carbs after, some say protein. For me? I know that protein helps me the most.

How late do you eat at night? That could be one reason why you're not hungry in the morning.

Usually around 8 when I get home from my workout...

Im up around 6...That does make sense, i just dont have any other time for dinner...unless I have it before the gym and substitute dinner with a protein shake?

I don't think 8 is too late. What time do you go to bed? I know I could never substitute dinner with a protein shake, but I eat 2500 on days I work out. I would say that even if you're not hungry in the morning you should eat or drink something.

I could never get my protein shakes to taste good. They always ended up chalky or goopy. I like putting a tablespoon of peanut butter in a regular banana smoothie--not as protein-packed, but fills you up.

I put my protein power in my latte in the morning. However, I have to be very careful with protein, I only use 8 g about four times a week. any more than that, and I tend to gain. I don't know why...I'm fairly vegetarian, so it's not like I get a lot of protein in the first place.

But...me and protein have to be careful with each other. I use Metagenics "Ultra Meal".

When I was on WW I know they had a shake powder they sold through the meeting place...I don't remember how much it was for a box, but I do remember that one shake was pretty filling, got me to lunch. I think it actually says that it's for breakfast.
