Question How do you know if you're not eating enough?

So, I'm not sure I'm eating enouh calories, or maybe i'm just getting sick. I'm 5'3"ish (on a good day) and I now weigh just under 145. I'm avering 1473 calories a day, according to fitday. Some days it's as low as 1220ish, and I think the highest i've gone was 1600 something. I'm still losing weight, but the last coupld of days I've felt a little light headed. Could it be the food?
Thanks for any help.

those seem to be okay amounts of calories for your height. Have you been working out a lot? If this continues you should see your doctor ASAP!!

Are you getting enough sodium? Sometimes low sodium can cause hypotension, which causes light headedness.

I've actually been eating a lot of sodium. I have a TMJ disorder, so whenever I get sick, I usually get dizzy first.
I've been working out, but no more than a half hour at a time, and none at all today (sore knee). I'm working on trying to run.
I'm also on the verge of TOM. Maybe it's a combination of everything.

I can understand the dizzyness!

I'm on medication for high blood pressure, and I get light headed all the time, especially if I bend over or get up too quickly. Also, if I stand for too long and lock my knees. (Yes, I was the fainting bridesmaid at my sister's wedding!)

I know for me, I need to make sure I am very well hydrated and also need to slow things down.

are you taking a multi-vitamin?

But it might not hurt to go in for a checkup just to make sure everything is tip top.

Thanks for all the help guys. I tried eating a little more after dinner, but still feel a little dizzy, not nearly as bad as before.
I was actually just at my doctor's about a week ago because of ear problems (also because of the TMJ). They don't drain properly, and get way worse when I'm sick.
I've been doing walking/jogging intervals for about a half hour, 3 or 4 times a week. I have a dance video that's about a half hour long that I'm trying to do twice a week.
If you guys think I'm eating enough, that's reasuring. Means that I'm probably just on the verge of another cold.

Your calorie levels seem fine, but I agree that you should be taking a multivitamin if you aren't already.

Dieting is one of those things that can have any number of effects on people, so I would recommend talking to your doctor if you're having issues like dizziness.

I actually take a multivitamin and a probiotic pill every day. It's not the first time I've had dizzyness. I actually get it a lot. They thought I was anemic for a while, but it was all clear. I've had a lot of tests run the best couple of years, and they determined it was just something I get from time to time because of my low blood pressure and TMJ. Also leads to the most terrible balance out of every one I know. I'm not surprised that I'm a little dizzy now, just wanted to make sure that I wasn't starving myself.
Thanks for all the advice guys

I get a weird feeling in my skin and bones. Maybe that's uh, not helpful?

This happened to me because my iron count was low. Try eating some things that are higher in iron - chicken, fish, meat, leafy greens - things like that. I wouldn't recommend a supplement, as you can overdose easily on iron.

There's a lot of things that can make you dizzy. You should see your doctor, but these are some things that can help you and your doctor figure it out....

when do you get dizzy? Is there anything specific that causes it (like going from laying down to standing- that's orthostatic hypotension)? If you get dizzy while laying down does it feel like the room is spinning or like you're on a boat (this is vertigo which could be as simple as a side effect of your TMJ affecting your eustachian tubes that is a component of balance, or something like a cerebellar issue)? Not really knowing much about this, I am guessing it's simply your TMJ causing you to have BPV (benign positional vertigo) or even a cold (aka virus) caused you to have neuronitis which can also cause BPV (I had it last year)

It could also be an unbalanced diet. the calories may be adequate... but what are you eating? If it's mostly simple carbs that causes your blood glucose to go nuts. Your brain can only run on glucose and when your blood glucose goes too low it literally starves your brain.

Just a couple of ides, I don't mean to scare you at all. Like I said above I had BPV last year and it really messes with everyday life!

Could it be your ear problems coming back to haunt you? I suppose they would have to affect your inner ear to make you dizzy, but you never know. What about blood sugar levels? Could it be that you've cut too much "good" sugar out of your diet, e.g. fruit, so now your blood sugar levels are dropping? I dunno i hope you resolve it soon!
