Fat Calves

I wouldn't consider my legs as fat. They are thick but not jiggly or anything. My question is will my calves shrink in circumference with 50-60 pounds lost. I just want to wear some Nine West knee boots for Gods sake. I love boots and I envy the thin legged women who can actually wear them. I have looked into wide calf boots and they are UGLY...U-G-L-Y. Any advise or insight?

I remember this from the *last* time I lost over 100 lbs. Due to the "luck" of genetics, I inherited enormous legs from my mother's side of the family. I mean really huge. No jiggle either, solid muscle from the knee down.

Losing about 150 lbs overall, once I was less than 50 lbs from goal, the weight really started coming off my legs and the great thing was, they were ultra toned from carrying around all that weight.

So if you don't have jiggle consider yourself lucky. Yes they will slim down. You will probably never have tiny delicate legs but you will probably have great muscle tone.

Bah! my calves are huge as well about 14' to be exact they get firmer but haven't shrunk :-(

I'm another that got "smaller, but not small". I inherited large calves and will likely always have them...but they are smaller, if not small. And BOY are they toned.

I couldn't even answer your question if I tried... but I TOTALLY FEEL YOU! I just wanna wear some freakin knee high boots for crying out loud! Mine doesn't jiggle either and if anything, they are TONED AS ****. but I want slimmer, sexier legs, too.

that's not huge! Mine are 16"!

I remember them being normal sized when I was a normal healthy weight though, so I'm assuming (i.e., praying) they will go down with the rest of me.

Mine have never got down to a size that would fit regular calf boots. But one can hope!

Uh excuse me ladies...mine are 17 freakin inches. WOW. They are toned as crap and look sexy in heels. but Lord how I want to wear boots. I think I need to get to 14" to even begin to wear them.

I lost probably a bit more than 1.625" from my calf with 55 pounds. Definitely more muscular now, which I do love. They're not tiny (now 14.875") but I tried on boots this past weekend, and they barely fit in the calf (size 8). Snug, but doable, and now I have boots on the brain ;)

If you're not hung up on them being NINE WEST boots, there are a WIDE range of larger-calf boot styles available at zappos.com...just look for "wide calf" and you'll get a selection. Some even go up to calf sizes of 18" or more. And ALL of their boots have a calf circumference listed in the specs.

I'm in your same boat! I have never measured my calves before, but I just did and they're about 17 inches, at a very rough estimate (my measuring tools are iPod headphones and a 12 inch ruler :) ) I definitely want to get some cute boots!

leighish 01-09-2009 12:53 AM

my calves are 13.5 but I just plain can't afford a nice pair of boots :(

QTestRDH 01-09-2009 02:30 AM

Oh I feel your pain!! I'm tall and have a larger frame, as opposed to those tall thin models. I have been a dancer all my life, because of that I have some awesome muscles. I think my legs look great, they are nice and toned, even now after I've gained weight. But my calf is 16 inches! I can't fit in any cute boots either! :(

I hope your calfs get smaller, heck I hope mine do too!! :)

CakeBatter 01-09-2009 08:33 AM

I don't necessarily have to have Nine West just one of my favorite brand of shoes. Lord please let them shrink, please let them shrink, please let them shrink.

tiggy123 01-09-2009 09:10 AM

I have slim calves, but jumbo thighs so I'd look really odd in kneehigh boots, my ex said my legs look like upside down triangles, considering my feet are really tiny for my height too :( Hopefully I can get a pair of kneelength boots too once I've tackled the thigh issue, now I just wear bootleg jeans with shortish boots or cowboy boots.
