Um... holy humiliating.

So every monday night we have game night with a couple of our neighbors. When we started this little tradition we agreed we would rotate which family brings treats. Well, after a few weeks of no treats showing up I started making treats almost every week. Not EACH week but almost.

Well tonight I brought PB cookies. One of the guys said, "Geez, Carly, for some one who's on a diet you sure do bake a lot!" :o

It made me feel so guilty and upset for some reason! I only bake goodies for this thing each week, and I hardly ever even eat them.

SO it just made me mad and I had to share. :)

um, I bake constantly, I work IN a bakery as a cake decorator, and I'm still able to lose weight. A and B are not related.

:)

Just because someone likes baking doesn't mean they like eating. I hate how everyone thinks they are connected. I enjoy cooking and baking because it's soothing and I get satisfaction from people telling me how much they enjoyed it.

I agree.

It kind of felt like, when he was saying that, instead of commenting on how I bake so often (whatever!) it seemed like he was saying "No wonder you aren't losing any weight." His wife is a twig, like almost too skinny, and I think he's one of those guys who thinks women should be twiggy. He sure has insinuated to that anyway! It just bothered me.

My husband said not to think about it, he's not a very tactful guy and hubby doesn't think he meant anything by it. haha he's probably right, regardless, it bothered me.

Carcar, I can think back to another time when I was near my lowest weight. I was living in the dorms and came home late. I made myself, like, a sandwich and a bowl of cereal (hard to remember, many years ago!). My roommate's friend was over and said "Holy ---- are you going to eat all that?!?!" I was SOOOO offended. I told her I hadn't eaten anything since lunch and this wasn't an unreasonably sized dinner but oh my god, who says that to someone?

I think it's best to just assume there weren't any pointed judgment in that man's comment. BUT maybe next time you can bring over carrot sticks and hummus and say "I hear you think I bake too much so let's try some of my healthier food!" I wouldn't be surprised if he said "No, no, I LOVE when you bake for us!"

*sees the Carrot and Hummus idea and drools* The store is out of Hummus... *cries*

Yes, I agree with Joyra... Since you were slightly offended by that comment, stop baking for them and bring in the healthy stuff...

Naw, I'd bring them a recipe for directions of spreading light cream cheese in celery. "Since you don't bake, I thought you could manage this for next week!"

I love baking! I just give stuff away. I have some, count the calories, and move on. Don't dwell too much on it. The proof of your diet will be when you continue to lose weight & it won't have any bearing on whether or not you at your bake goods or not.

I love baking as well, and I've found for the most part, I won't eat whatever I've baked, since I know exactly what's in it and how bad it is for me (I don't believe in low-fat baking - gimmie butter and sugar, please!). However, when other people bake, it's all over for me! Luckily, I'm the best baker in my family, so usually they defer to me to bring the desserts.

carcar if i were you id take celery sticks next time and see how he likes it :)

JulieJ08 12-23-2008 10:19 AM

Yeah, I really don't get how it was upsetting, but it sure seems like a stupid thing to say if he wants you to bake. I would just stop bringing anything. Everyone needs to pitch in.

I love the celery/carrots and hummus idea. I so would do that if it were me. :)
