Red face Feeling Uncomfortable at Work, Did I do the right thing?

Ok, I know that I've told y'all about how there are Hispanics at work that are trying to holla at me, but they don't speak English.

I've been gracious and I've politely said no. But now, I feel so uncomfortable when I go out to the plant, which I have to do quite often. They do a low whistle and make sure the other guys know that I'm on the floor so they can look at me. At first, it was not a big deal, but now or at least today, I felt very uncomfortable.

I told my friend who is also the production manager about it. He asked me if I wanted it to stop and I said yes because it makes me feel uncomfortable.

He said that he would handle it so he went and told them that it makes me feel uncomfortable and to stop.

Did I do the right thing? I feel bad that he had to say something but I don't like feeling uncomfortable. I'm not going to pursue sexual harassment or anything like that, but I want to make sure I did the right thing.

Course you did. Something makes you feel uncomfortable, they should stop. End of story, chica. Don't feel bad about it!

Of COURSE you did the right thing! Don't think twice about it. That is your place of work. You have every right not to be harassed. They may think nothing of it, but it's obnoxious and distracting and bothersome to you and that gives you every right to do something about it. I think you dealt with it through the proper channels and hopefully it will stop.

I'm dealing with this right now. They are building some homes right next to my apartment and every time I walk my dog the entire crew stops what they're doing and stares and whistles. At first it didn't bother me, but it happens every single day. I'm thinking about calling the site manager or builder.

I think you definitely did the right thing. It's innappropriate for 1, and 2 it makes you uncomfortable. So it's good for you to stand up for yourself and I think having the production manager take care of it was the best way for you to do that without creating a compromising situation by telling them yourself (or having an interpreter tell them, lol!)

Good luck!

Thanks girls, I really appreciate your support. But I still feel bad about letting them know, but I also feel degraded too. Partly b/c I can't understand what they are saying but partly b/c they don't know me but they feel that they want me. Don't get me wrong, I'm use to guys wanting me, but this is different. Ok, that sounded so conceited. lol It's different when it's day after day and it gets worse and worse.

Yes, of course you did the right thing. I know culturally, it is okay for them. But, it isn't for you. By the way, most of the time if you let them know you don't want the attention, they WILL stop. This is all about keeping yourself afloat here.

I thinik you went about that the best way possible, you just wanted them to stop, like you said it wasnt like you went a pressed charges on them or anything. Im sure the only reason you they kept doing it was becuase they didnt know it was bothering you. Im sure they will be happy that you went about in a grown-up way instead of how some people would have handled it. Good for you!

I think you did the right thing. I mean really, how else are you going to let them know it makes you uncomfortable. I'm sure they feel a bit sheepish for making you feel bad. But, I mean, can you blame them...its hard to control yourself when constantly confronted with a tall hot chick at work everyday...imagine how uncomfortable they feel! Ya freakin hottie!

Like everyone else, I agree you did the right thing. If someone or something is making you uncomfortable in your workplace you have the right to ask it to be stopped. I understand you feel bad but this is your place of employment and you shouldn't be forced to be uncomfortable everytime you go out to the plant.

I've been thinking about a career in motivational speaking. Maybe when I hit the 100 lbs lost mark I can look into some gigs.

I think you would be so good at that! When you're famous don't forget about us little people.
