help - calorie limits?

  • Hey guys,
So I'm a big calorie counter and I'm having the hardest time deciding where to start with a calorie limit. I get really frustrated when I mess up, so I really don't want to mess up and gain any back, but I also don't want to make myself feel hungry all the time!

I'm 175lbs and 5'7. I've been thinking I should eat around 1500 calories to lose weight? Does that sound reasonable? Is it unhealthy for me to eat around 1300 on days I really want to make some change? Or would that be okay as long as it's not every day? Or is that okay?

I know you guys aren't nutritionists, but a second opinion would be great anyway!
  • I used freedieting.com to figure out my calorie range. It tells you how many to eat for mantinence, fat loss and extreme fat loss. It also shows how to zig-zagg calories!
  • Thanks! I looked at it, and it says I should go to 1400 for extreme fat loss, so 1300 might not be such a good idea! Thanks again!
  • I'd say if you cycle between 1500 and 1300 you should see plenty of success at your weight. Especially if you work out.
  • I am at 1500 right now and usually do "cycling" which means there are days I eat 12-1300 and some days 16-1700. I also jog 2.5 miles a day or run intervals. I am no longer losing any weight but maintaining fine. I am in the process of revamping to get more weight off.
  • That website says I need 1040 calories for extreme weight loss! I'm kind of scared!
  • don't worry coolgirl- it also says you should only try for extreme weight loss if you're seriously overweight. Stick to the fat loss number, and I'm sure you'll lose just fine.
  • when i weighed 175 pounds i was eating between 1200 and 1600, so if u try to stick around 1500 then you should be fine i think really you just have to fiddle and see what works for you
