I've been doing strength training using my own body weight and 5 lb weights when I use weights. I have lost so many inches by doing strength circuit training. I found that when I use my own body weight, my body gets better results but it's just what I have found.

Love weight lifting, love love and love it - it's done wonders for me.

I started with a personal trainer, at the time the dumbbells I used likely ranged from 8-15 pounds. Now they range from 15-75 pounds.

If you're considering working out at home and investing in dumbbells I'd go for the adjustable kind, more costly initially but well worth it as you'd need a variety. Another option would be to get bands, much less expensive or use body weight like the PP mentioned - which is free!
