Weekly Chat Sept 1-7

Is everyone away on labour day vacations? I wanna chat! :D

I'm doing a HUGE clean today! My fiance has been living with me this summer (he's a teacher in another town) and I'm so happy to have gotten all this stuff out of my small 1 bedroom apartment! HA! I sound so mean- I miss him but won't miss his stuff! He took my cat with him for a mini-vacation (his apartment is her all-inclusive resort, complete with a lovely window ledge to sit on and watch the cars) so I get to clean up ALL HER HAIR! Yes, I realize I'm sad for being excited by this.

I'm also cooking some Cuban beans- who knows how authentic the recipe is (not me, since I live in Canada) but it's really healthy and full of veggies. I squeezed some lime on the rice too and it tastes so yummy.

I'd better go to the gym later (luckily mine is open) to get started on my Sept fitness challenge. Hope everyone is having a productive (or lazy) labour day!

sh3l5 09-01-2008 11:53 AM

was the first day back at school today for many of the teachers....
i had three tell me i have lost a lot of weight....

:D

Taylor86 09-01-2008 01:27 PM

I have a bbq to go to tonight at my dads. I logged my breakfast/lunch/and snack into dailyplate.com and I still have 933 calories left today. I know I want to be able to have a glass of wine and some ribs with my family. I know I can play it save if I stick to 2 glasses of wine, a little bit of ribs, salad (which I am bringing) and fruit. That should just about keep me in my calories!
I won't eat any ice cream and stuff, I will make sure and leave one of my glasses of wine until after dinner so I can drink on that while people eat their cake! I probably will splurge and have a diet coke but that's a lot better than chocolate cake!

I hope everyone has a great labor day and I am sending you all some:dust: I need some too!

artsnsmarts 09-01-2008 02:07 PM

Taylor it sounds like you have a great plan for today!! It's not about denying yourself...it's about modifying!

Congrats, sh3l5!! That's great validation!

No big plans for me today -- Labor Day has never been a big one for my family or anything, so I don't even really feel like I'm missing out on celebrations. I AM SOOOOOOOOOO HAPPY, however, that I'm not moving today!! Since I live in the city, there are THOUSANDS of people moving, and it just reminds me of what **** it is!! I'm happy not being part of that madness!!

Taylor86 09-01-2008 02:13 PM

arts It is about moderation! If I wanted a piece of chocolate cake - I would just not have wine and eat some bbq chicken breast....but alas I love my wine and I want some ribs! So, it's kinda like give and take! However, if we were talking like...chocolate ICE CREAM cake...or cheesecake....we might be having a different conversation.:hun: Also, just TON of people are moving out/in to my apartment complex this week, so you are totally lucky not to moving this week. I saw some guys with a drum kit and I was PRAYING they weren't going to move next door to me, and they didn't - thank goodness. Instead I got this nice lady with 2 cats....I was so happy.

mojolove05 09-01-2008 03:24 PM

I'm just continuing the lazy weekend. Usually my car club wants to get together and do something on holidays but they all just got back from TN and those guys are more indecisive than most girls I know haha.

I am super proud of myself. The BF wanted Subway for lunch and I agreed but get this... I got a SALAD. WOW!! Never had one before bc I love their bread but I think I accomplished something. Also got on the scale this morning after starting healthy eating last week and I am down 8 lbs. Woohoo. Been a pretty good day. Hope you girlies are enjoying it.

Spoz 09-01-2008 03:43 PM

Down 8 lbs? Wow what are you doing that I'm not, haha? Well done :)

I'm having a really difficult week and it's only Monday *sigh* hope things get better from here...

Taylor86 09-01-2008 03:54 PM

Seriously! down 8 pounds! That's awesome!

spotz:hug: I hope your week gets better

mojolove05 09-01-2008 04:00 PM

That 8lbs just shows how much crap I normally eat. I didn't have any carbs or any cokes (diet or otherwise) this week. I'll most likely start losing 1-2 lbs a week now. But thank goodness I always have those big losses the first week so it keeps my motivation.

Spoz I hope things look up for you. :)

i am still trying 09-01-2008 04:01 PM

Well, I am a teacher and back tomorrow (Canada). School will help me keep my routine of working out. Food has been good but the exercising , well, not so much :) Planning on hitting spin class on Wednesday for the first time in a couple months. I 'll let you know how that goes, if I'm still alive.
Down 4 lbs. these two past weeks with little eexercise, so let's see what some sweat does for the scale.
I have a pizza coming to the house for hubby and brother, trying to avoid it!!!! wish me luck

Spoz: whats up?

iriswhispers 09-01-2008 04:02 PM

unfortunately my gym *is* closed today... I feel like that's a bad start to the month! at least I have no major festivities planned to side-track me. I'm all alone and I think I'll have a veggie-dog for dinner. Safe and easy!

Good luck to everyone who has picnics and celebrations to go to! Enjoy with moderation. =)

I binged horribly the past two days :( and woke up with the worst headache... definitely what I have come to know as a "food hangover." Yuck!! So far today has been all right. It's worst when I'm alone, though, which I have been all weekend.

SavingServo 09-01-2008 04:38 PM

Good luck to all the teachers at the start of the new school year! :carrot:

Here in St. Paul the RNC is ridiculous. I went by the protest this morning and on my way there saw 15-20 cops chasing 5 unarmed guys out of a "secure area" and then get into their little riot/barrier formation (even though no one else was around who looked like they cared or wanted to get in). It's all a little crazy. :dizzy:

Also we have the political cartoonist for the Economist staying at our house so that's been interesting. He showed us his sketches from the DNC last night, but today apparently he's going to the State Fair because they're not doing anything at the RNC.

Iconised Ghost 09-01-2008 05:03 PM

it must suck to have your gym closed, especially on holidays when you have more time than usual to work out! I dont think mine closes except on Christmas Day, New Years Day, and maybe easter. They're so hard core

Spoz: i hope your week gets better :( it sucks when the week gets off to a bad start, but i find those weeks usually end on a higher note :)

Its so strange for me to hear about teachers going back for the new school year  my parents are both in schools and they are in term 3! Lol the new year starts for us in January

New day for me after my slip up yesterday! I've planned my snacks and lunch and i am going to be fine fine fine:dizzy:

Mango683 09-01-2008 06:24 PM

My gym is closed today, too:-( I know it's a holiday, buuut it also messes up my routine and I'm going out of town on business tomorrow and the hotel doesn't have a pool or fitness center (and it's a Doubletree- what's up with that!??!) so I'm rising at 5:30 to pump iron before I hit the road. I have to- I'm determined and I'm not going to let some holiday get in my way!

I also went to the pool today for the very last time this season, which makes me enormously sad. I hate how labor day weekend is the complete official end of summer and winter is just around the corner. There goes my tan and outdoor activeness!

I hope everyone had a great weekend and here's to a GREAT September!! (yikes! where is 2008 going!??!)

caligirl98 09-01-2008 09:22 PM

I have been totally and completely BAD this weekend, but I don't feel guilty. I've had one of those 'do nothing and love it' weekends. School is out, and I was off work and I did all of my socializing on the first couple of days. So that last 2 and a half days, I've been chilling around the house, catching up on my TIVOed lifetime moves and reading some historical romance and editing some of my writing. I didn't work out once, but I didn't pig out either, pretty much sticking to salads so I didn't feel to bad. The scale has gone up but I'm not in panic mode. I'm shrugging...I just needed a couple of days when my life didn't revolve around what I eat and how much I work out. And it was beautiful.

So during some self exploration; I told my friend that I'm mostly attracted to bad guys who ooze sex and she was like "Why?" I was like, "Because they are bad guys who OOZE sex. duh!" Unfortunately, there seems to be a crop of good respectable guys moving in around my neighborhood that I keep running into at the gas station--the place where I get talked to the most. Nice guys are cool, but I can be a serious beeyotch (I know, can you believe it? ;-)) and I'm kind of scared I would walk all over a nice guy.

RememberHowToSmile 09-01-2008 09:32 PM

Happy Labor Day!
For it being a holiday and going to a bbq today I actually had a pretty good day. I had a Morningstar burger instead of a burger or sausage. I also had lots of fruit. I limited myself to one tablespoon of potato salad (just for a taste), some Mexican dip (which we make low fat) with one serving of baked chips, and two cookies for dessert. AND I didn’t drink any alcohol at all. :cb:

I went groceries shopping and got a ton of veggies and fruit (which I’ve been craving since I haven’t been in control of my food when I was on vacation and since I didn’t get to the store until now since I’ve been back. I was very disappointed because the store didn’t have any poweraid zero which I’ve grown to love. I guess I’ll have to wait until next week.

Megan – Good job getting cleaning done, that is actually what I would have rather done today.

Sh3l5 - that is great that your teachers noticed.

Taylor – Sounds like a good plan another suggestion would be to eat fruit while everyone else is eating dessert so that you have something sweet!

Mojo – good job getting a salad, I love subways bread (ok I just love carbs in general) so can never do that. 8 pounds is great :cb:

Spoz – I hope your Monday is getting better.

Still trying – I am actually happy that school has started again because I’m a student and the routine helps me so much. Good job on 4 pounds :carrot:

Iris – I totally understand what you are saying about the food binges and hangovers I think they are worse then real hangovers.

Ghost – Good job getting back on track after your slip up.

Margo – Wow that is a double bummer. I have been going out of town lately and always check for gyms, take the work out stuff, but then get there and never have time to get to the gym. It sucks, and that is one of the reasons I’m happy this is a new school year, less travelling.

iriswhispers 09-01-2008 09:38 PM

remember - great job today at your bbq!

mango - seriously, where IS this year going?? It feels like summer just started and all of a sudden it's over! props to you for getting up early to get a workout in tomorrow.

caligirl, glad you had a relaxing weekend. sometimes those are necessary... it's good to take a break from constant diet vigilance!

I binged a bit again... I have been working ENDLESSLY on these online training protocols I need to complete and have been feeling the need to be noshing as I am working on them. I still have about 4 hours to go on my human subjects approval and I'm getting stressed - I have other work that needs to be done before tomorrow (and wednesday!).

Iconised Ghost 09-01-2008 10:35 PM

i also binged a little bit...had some pop and banana cake, but i think i have to reign back in slowly. Do you guys get the thing where, after you do really well, you kinda get a "i can lose weight, i'll eat what i want!" sort of mentality? Its hard for me to break!

Im up to 900 calories today, i just hope we're not having pasta for dinner >.<

Taylor86 09-02-2008 12:21 AM

Well I did okay. I had 3 glasses of wine and about 8 ribs (about 3 too many) and instead of chocolate cake there was angel food cake with fresh strawberries so I had some. I also was sitting in front of a bag of chips which I am pretty sure I mindlessly picked at. Next time I will sit away from the chips!

Tomorrow will be better, I have school again next week (had last week off due to DNC) and school keeps me busy and my mind off food!

artsnsmarts 09-02-2008 12:54 AM

Taylor -- It's the opposite for me! When I'm back at school there's so much delicious food on campus....muffins, smoothies, fro-yo, chips, snacks....ahhhh it's hard to resist everything! When last year ended I still hadn't started using DailyPlate, so I think this year the structure of that might help, but I'm still a little nervous!

I have my BIG audition this weekend that I've been working toward all summer. I was hoping to be at 195 or below, and I'm really right around there, so I'm very happy. I'm just hoping that the director doesn't count med out for the part just because there are thinner girls auditioning. It's sad, but it's an unfortunate aspect of my life. Of course my biggest goal is to get cast, but I would love to also just make it to final callbacks. At that point, you know the director likes you, and is really just making final decisions that correlate to HIS vision, not necessarily to your talent. So, we'll see....it's nerve-wracking!

sh3l5 09-02-2008 02:16 AM

its so very cold over here in the UK already....
maybe its me never being this thin before actually feeling the difference....
this winters going to be tough to adjust to i thinks....

CookieMonster416 09-02-2008 11:11 AM

Hey everybody. I did good for most of the week, but on Sunday and Monday totally binged. I have learned that if I eat a big dinner at a restaurant, that's my trigger to go home and just eat everything around the house. For example, went to a fancy steakhouse last night and even though I was stuffed when I got home I decided to eat all of the leftovers from the weekend that were still in my fridge... 4 lemon squares, 2 fudge brownies, a bowl of pasta salad and some chicken parmesan later I literally passed out on the couch. I woke up this morning and felt absolutely gross. Talk about a food hangover. You know when you burp and you have this disgusting taste in your mouth? Yah that is how its been all morning.

If I'm so happy when I lose weight, why do I sabotage myself like this?

Here we go again 09-02-2008 12:01 PM

Hey Ladies! I was so busy this weekend, it was crazy!

I went to the California state fair on Sat night and had a blast, it was my first CA fair. I knew I was going to have a funnel cake b/c I was saving for it. My two friend and I split one, so it was actually only 300 cal each, that was good. Then my friend decided to surprise us with the cheesecake factory. I was like this is so funny that we were talking about cheesecake last week. I didn't have any cheesecake. *patting self on back*

Did good at two bbqs on Monday. I finally lost the 5 pounds I gained last week due to TOM. Yeah! Hopefully I can get to losing again. I don't like being at a stand still.

I have a confession to make...... so I was the first of my friends to go on a health kick. Now my friends are losing weight and eating healthier. I'm so happy for them, but a part of me is jealous that they are losing and I'm at a stand still again. Does that make me a horrible friend?

Down 8 pounds that awesome!

Hey- I see you're from Fayetteville. I used to live there. I haven't seen anyone from back home and I had to say hi! I live in Sacramento now. I'm going home for Christmas, how's NWA?

I saw in another post that you were from AR but I never got around to PMing you. I'm originally from South Arkansas but I LOVE NWA. It's Booming like crazy around here, but I still love the small town feel. It's such a small world isn't it.

I'm back at work today after a nice relaxing LAZY weekend. I'm trying to figure out my meal plan for this week and I am drawing a blank. My BF is getting tired of all the baked chicken and salads haha. I also need to figure out some snacks bc I am afraid I am not eating enough calories. Hope you are all having a good day.

.

Where in south Arkansas? I grew up in Louisiana and had friends all over Arkansas. I'm very familiar with south, central, and NW. I do like it there and can't wait to see all my family and my old spots. My momma told me that I wouldn't recongize it at all. I haven't been there since last Christmas. I was just telling my friends here that I'm a little homesick.

shantroy 09-02-2008 12:44 PM

Hey all, I had a pretty good weekend. watched what I ate though not perfectly. But I'm feeling pretty good this morning. My bf's family was in town (minus his dad, b/c he was in the hospital) so there were lots of dinners. I made a pretty healthy jambalya for dinner on sat, and we had pizza on sunday but I only ate small pieces of the veggie and skipped dessert.

We pulled names for their Xmas gift giving, it's the first time I've been included! I pulled his sisters name. Now this should be interesting, b/c I don't think she really likes me....I just get weird vibes from her. She should be realitvely easy to shop for, b/c she's pregnant and due in late jan, plus her and her baby daddy are in the process of buying a house. So I'll probably get her something for the house.

In other news, I started my bootcamp class yesterday. I had fun, but it wasn't a real class. The istructor invited everyone down for a single class instead of the usual 4 classes a day. She called it an easy class...crap man if that was an easy class - I'm going to have my butt whipped into shape in no time! I can barely walk today my abs, thighs and quads are so sore! I'm scared to think of what tomorrow will bring!

I was going to start the C25K today, but a co-worker of mine and I decided this mornin that for old time sake we're going to go to the Backstreet boys concert tonight! I feel so lame writing that, but I'm secretely super excited! I used to love them back in the day. Tickets were reasonably cheap $75 for floor seats. Sigh I'm so lame....

It looks like everyone had a good weekend. I'm at work and I really should be working so I'll be back later to post to everyone.

Yeah, I've of Hope but I don't think I've ever been there. When I lived in Monroe, LA I would always drive through El Dorado, Fordyce, or PB so it was more of the southwest of the state.

Where do you work out? I'm want to make sure I plan my workouts while I'm there and I know I can't run/ walk outside it's too cold, especially since I'm used to CA weather.

Hello Everyone! Been couple days and there's so much to read. I didn't really do anything over the weekend other than homework so I can be ahead of things. I have been telling myself "Okay, when I'm done with this one, I'm going on 3FC" but didn't happen till now.
I gained a couple of pounds but still am at 170's... back and forth between 178 and 179'ish... I have only about little over a month left so I gotta really jump back on the wagon, I think. I kind of have lost motivation for some reason, though, and have been eatling like crap. :( I did run about 3 miles on Saturday but nothing on Sunday, and then worked out for about 55 minutes with a DVD yesterday. I've decided not to weigh myself till next Saturday (or at least not make whatever weight I see on the scale as "official" till then)...That's the due date for TBL weight and I hope I will be at 175 by then...which will be loss of 8 pounds from when the last TBL finished.

I am going to go workout for little bit so I have enough time to workout AND cook dinner. I'm going to try butternut squash taco today... I will try to do personal little later..

Hope all of your week is going well.

iriswhispers 09-02-2008 04:26 PM

I'm very frustrated with myself today... I feel overwhelmed and I just want to sit around and eat. I tried to go to a computer lab on campus to work, but they are holding classes in there today! Frustrating!!

I know how you feel. I have to go to campus today to try and get a computer (they will all be used, you have to walk around the floor waiting for someone to leave, like a shark). Postgrads get their own computer lab, but they havent updated my swip card so i cant get in the building on holidays! Its so frustrating. I just want to sit around and eat too

heidelene 09-02-2008 05:14 PM

Hey all -

Had a good, long weekend, but I did eat 3 hot dogs over the course of the day yesterday, and I binged a bit myself on potato chips yesterday. They were just soooo good. I also had a 1lb hot dog at a baseball game Sunday. I guess it was just a good weekend for processed pork :p

Last made a new pasta dish for lunch today that I thought was fairly healthy. I entered it onto the daily plate and found out it was not as healthy as I thought. :o So, I'm trying to be mindful of what I eat the rest of today. It shouldn't be too hard as I don't feel well. My head is pounding, I'm a little dizzy, and I just want to curl up and take a nap. I've postponed the gym tonight and resolve to go tomorrow if I'm feeling better then. Looks like it's broth or noodle soup tonight for dinner. :dz:

Here we go again 09-02-2008 06:34 PM

I thought I would like short weeks, but I really don't. lol I like being off Mondays but not trying to fit everything into 4 days..... ugggg....

i am still trying 09-02-2008 06:52 PM

sh315- YAY, good job breaking through. It's so hard when you're that close to goal!!

OK- signed up for Spin at my gym for tomorrow. i used to go regularly, before the two month hiatus :) But I'm back on track. Let's hope i am still breathing afterwards.
Eating has been fine but i think that it's time to incorporate more exercise into the plan. Question:

how much does exercise affect your weight loss? I know that they say eating has the most impact on weight loss and exercise comes second, but besides it making you feel good, how does it impact your weight loss?
I'm wondering for myself if it will help a lot or a little.

Taylor86 09-02-2008 07:08 PM

still trying When I first started to work out my actually pounds lost stalled but I started to loose inches. Then after about 2 weeks I lost 5 pounds in a week and then started to loose 1-2 pounds after that. Remember to drink your water and don't get too upset if your weight loss stalls. Work outs always help ALOT and suppress hunger.:exercise:

here we go I don't like having mondays off either! I feel cheated of an extra day I could be doing getting my work in...but it's funny because I DO like fridays off.

heid I hope you feel better!

tara Will you post that butternut taco on your blog if it's any good? I wanna try it!! Sounds so yummy

remember Great job on the BBQ yesterday. I wish I had taken my morning star..but ended up eating way too many ribs and 3 glasses of wine.:dizzy: Oops.

sh3 Great job on the weight loss! I can't wait until I start to lose weight again!

Today had gone well for me. I eat so much less when I have a schedule and am busy...I did have two trips to starbucks but stuck to plain black coffee:coffee: and avoided all pastry type thingies.

My back is feeling a lot better today and I see my trainer tomorrow so I am gonna see what she has to say about it. I SOOOO want to get back doing to the elliptical. Darn bodily injuries.

Oh, oh - I also bought fresh califlower instead of the frozen stuff and I boiled some for lunch and OH WOW it taste soo good. I put some 0 calorie butter spray and some of my "fake" salt on it and it was sinfully good.

And I found 100 calorie english muffins! They are by Thomas and taste just like the normal one...I had one for a quick breakfast in this morning with an egg on it.

I hope every is having a good day back to school/work!

UGHHHHHHHH IM SO IRRITATED!!

My boyfriend (though he is wonderful and I love him) is a dunce. A complete dunce. He CONSTANTLY leaves his keys in the apartment, which then means that I have to be here to let him back in. And tonight I was soooooooooooooooo looking forward to going to the gym...I even skipped my ballet class because I needed to do some school shopping and so had amped myself up to get to the gym, and now I can't go because I need to be here when he gets back!! GAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!
