I'm having this dilemma at this very moment. I live in community, and my housemates are cooking dinner upstairs. I'd like to partake, but I'll have to guess at how many calories are in the curry they're making.
I'm probably going to go ahead and eat with them, but have very small portions. If I get hungry later, I'll eat something for which I have nutritional info.
I count calories and find that is not nearly as tedious as it would be to go back to shop for clothes at the fat ladies shop.
I totally agree, bargoo. Totally.
I have been counting calories for 6 months now and I bake and cook a lot. I absolutely LOVE cooking. It is a habit for me now. In the begining it was hard and time consuming. But it gets easier. I love it. It makes me think before I eat something. Just last night, I wanted an oreo, so I ate one. Then I wanted another one, so I went to my journal to record the one I ate, and realized that I did not have any calories left to have another one so I didn't eat it! It works for me. I am down 36 pounds now thanks to calorie counting.

Calorie counting is not for everyone, but it's the most effective way to lose weight and keep it off, in my opinion. I actually DO have OCD though, so obsessive counting and keeping track of everything is right up my alley.
stick around with calories counting for 1-2 months. After that, you'll have the idea of how much is this and how many is that, so you won't need to measure by the cups any more. ^^
I am right with you! I knew that couting calories would never work for me. My plan works for me and I am happy about it. I started out with the fat smash at first but now I basically watch what I eat. FOr the most part I cut out fast foods, junk foods, fried foods, and I have lightened up on carbs. Dont get me wrong I havent gave up sweets and things like that 100% but I dont eat them as much as I use to. I drink only water and once in a while I will have a juice or diet juice. I just try to make healthy food choices. That is what works best for me and so far I am down 25lbs since april. Like the others said you have to find out what works for YOU!!!! Good luck
