Your Goal Weight??

I just was wondering what is it that made you all set your goal weight to whatever it is that you decided? Is your goal weight a size that you had been at some point of your life?

My goal weight is still high. Right now my goal is to just hit onederland. Im a short girl but at the sametime I am also a pretty solid plus size person. No one ever believes me when I tell them how much I weight...LOL but I guess that is a good thing. After having my daughter I was close to 200lbs my pre-preggo weight before she was born(almost nine years ago) was about 165lbs I dont think I ever want to be that small though. I am one who actually loves being thick and curvy I just dont want to be in the 200's. I have a picture of myself at home of myself at about 212 and to be honest I really liked myself at that size so that is why I set my goal to be around 190-199.

What is your story behind your goal weight?

Bonita Applebaum 07-02-2008 11:05 AM

My goal weight fluctuates. It really depends on when you ask me. Sometimes I want my goal weight to be 160, sometimes it's 140. I think it really depends on what my body (read: stomach/abs) looks like in a bikini at 160. If I don't like what I see then I'll get down to 140.

Beth in NS 07-02-2008 11:11 AM

My goal weight is not set in stone either. I have never weighed myself up until about a year ago, so I have absolutely no idea what I weighed when i was at my 'ideal' weight. I just figured I would pick a number (cause it is nice to have something to strive for) and see how I feel when I get there!

hotnewspirits 07-02-2008 11:11 AM

At my prom (4 years ago) I was in the low 140's.

I still thought I was obese then (ugh teenage girls minds) but when I looked at pictures I looked pretty darn good! But I know I want to be a little smaller than that.

I'm not expecting my body to be like super toned and perfect at that weight but I'll feel more comfortable in the 130's than in the 140's. And like the person above me, I'd like to feel more comfortable in a bikini. Now don't get me wrong, I still wear one right now even with all the current jiggle wiggle I've got going on, but I want to look better in it.

audreymonroe 07-02-2008 11:29 AM

I chose 150 for a couple of reasons. One, it's right in the middle of what is considered a "healthy weight" for someone my height and bone size (medium frame). Also, I went on a cruise at the end of high school (I was this height then too), and right before it I lost weight, from 173 to 157. I was almost totally satisfied with my body at that height, but my thighs were a little thicker than I would have liked. So I'm shooting for 150, and I'll just see what happens when I get near to that weight!

scorpio88 07-02-2008 11:36 AM

Mine changes every week. ;) I'm thinking 123 or so. I'm pretty sure the lowest I'd go would be 120, of course depends as 135-150 I look the exact same/same size. It takes about 15lb to drop 1 size for me because of where all my fat is (from lower stomach down - pear shaped). I got an idea from a doctor/nutritionist who said because I don't want a lot of muscle, that would be a good goal weight for me.

Silverstar33 07-02-2008 11:36 AM

Hello,
I picked my goal based on the healthy weight calculators. I'm really trying to hit the weight lifting hard, and would like to add a fair amount of lean body mass while reducing body fat, so in the end I'm more concerned about how I look/feel than the number. In the end, I could care less if I hit the number if I'm fit and toned.

LetsWorkItOut 07-02-2008 11:39 AM

I lost weight and was about 150 a few years ago. It was so hard to maintain and people made comments about how sickly I looked. I chose 170 because I think I can still be happy and healthy at that weight. . . although that's subject to change.

Really, I just want to be super toned.

EDIT: Also, to Matilda, I think that psychologically it's good to have a higher goal weight. That way losing weight doesn't seem like an insurmountable task.

mariarose 07-02-2008 11:45 AM

I chose my goal weight based on frame size, height, and family history.
I have a very small frame (little bones, feet, etc) so I look a lot pudgier than someone my height with a larger frame does.
Also, I come from a long line on both sides of lean people who don't build very much muscle (a source of great chagrin to my ever-weightlifting-brother and uncles), so while strength training makes me stronger, it doesn't seem to change my body composition too much.

pigginpodgey 07-02-2008 11:45 AM

I have several different goals, for me getting under 200 will be fantastic as I havent been there for a long long time! After that my goal is 155, just because its a healthy weight for my height etc and to be honest I cant ever remember being this weight. Maybe I bypassed it completley I dont know!
Even as a 14 year old I was close to 170lbs or over, so for me anything below this would be fantastic!!

staja 07-02-2008 12:26 PM

I picked my goal of 150 for a couple of reasons.
1. I have no idea what my body looks like below 175 (as I haven't been there since middle/high school, and back then I didn't care)
2. I have a medium to large frame and am large busted
3. The idea of 130 scares me!

When I talked over goal weights with my doctor, she pulled out a BMI chart, and we went over that as a guideline, but she also said that every pound I take off is beneficial, so I'm going to keep losing until I feel good and she's happy with where I am.

Taylor86 07-02-2008 12:54 PM

My goal weight is when my doctor and trainer are happy with me and I feel like myself again. I have spent too many years in this over-weight body...

skinnybeach 07-02-2008 01:22 PM

I have been lower than my goal weight and certainly need to weigh more than i did then. I weight 135ish throughout high school without really trying to lose weight so i know that if i exercise and eat well, i can be 120 one day! It may take FOREVER but i can do it!!

sh3l5 07-02-2008 01:29 PM

a bloke i used to work with said anything above ten stone was fat....
just something that still sticks in my head....
and something i really want to get under....
to prove i can to him and the world....

theresia 07-02-2008 01:32 PM

Right now my goal is set to 128.. But we'll see when I get there if I still have something to lose.. My butt is my biggest problem.. When I'm happy with it I'll stop losing :)

Rachellia 07-02-2008 01:32 PM

Mine is 120 because that's when I felt best about myself physically, looked my best (going back to photos), and maintained a good balance between being slender and curvy. At one point, years ago, I was 105 lbs, and that looked horrible -- like a bobblehead doll.

Same here, but mine is because I gain weight perfectly evenly all over my body. I can easily wear a size 7 at either 120 or 140 because I've gained about 2" all over. Unfortunately, the extra inches are flabby and my body fat shoots way up (from 24% at 120 to 31% at 140).

anewme625 07-02-2008 01:49 PM

To be honest I always wanted to know how does it feel to be 140, and plus its a healthy weight for me.. so thats im shoting for maybe 140-145

just keep swimming 07-02-2008 01:50 PM

I just picked 50 lbs. down, plus it is in the "normal" weight range for my height. I won't really know till I get closer, of course, but it seems like a good goal to shoot for.

UrsusMaritimus 07-02-2008 02:00 PM

I picked 140 because that's what I weighed when I started college - of course I thought I was fat then, but in retrospect I looked great! It's also a healthy weight for someone of my height.

I also picked it because it seemed doable. When I get there I may re-evaluate and try to lose an additional 10 lbs. We'll see!

LynseyLikes2Lose 07-02-2008 03:22 PM

I set mine at 150 because it was exactly 50 pounds from my starting weight. It's still over weight for me but I don't remember the last time I was below 170 so I thought it'd be a comfortable number.

I'm now thinking I need to be closer to the 130 mark. I am trying to change my goal to like a size 6 or 8 instead of a weight because I'm losing inches faster than I can lose the weight anymore since I workout so much more.

I guess I just started there and I trust that I'll just KNOW when I'm where I need/want to be.

LandonsBaby 07-02-2008 03:30 PM

110lbs isn't my end goal, its the beginning. I picked that weight because its the maximum healthy weight for my height. When I get to that point I will switch from trying to lose weight to seriously trying to build muscle (if i can ever stay well for more than a few days at a time!!). Then I will go from there. I may end up weighing less...I may end up weighing more. Before I started gaining I was 85lbs but I had NOO muscle so I can't really guage where I want to be on where I have been before. I may not get exactly where I want due to chronic illness but I'm trying anyway. I sure won't get there if I don't even try.

BrandNewJen 07-02-2008 04:04 PM

My INITIAL goal weight is 215--- this is the weight I got down to 6 years ago when I met my now-husband--- and I felt MEGA sexy and super hot--- the first time in my life I got REAL attention from men---

I was wearing a 14/16 and was happy---- but if it's easy to get down to that weight, I'm not against losing more--- 180 is my "healthy" weight according to weight charts--- not sure if that's really possible. Would be EcSTATIC with 190 and a size 12...

Matilda08 07-02-2008 04:04 PM

Mine may change as well it all depends on how I carry it!!!!!..LOL

SSmomof1 07-02-2008 04:32 PM

I picked my goal weight of 140 just to get me into the normal zone on the BMI chart. I'm a muscular person so we'll see how it goes, I would really just love to be in a 10 or especially an 8, but I don't know what weight that is for me.

NishKitten 07-02-2008 05:03 PM

...

112 was the weight I was up until I got through Basic Training.

I was at the peak of ballerina fitness, and I have a feeling that the lighter I am the less my arthritic knees and ankles will bother me, so im shedding this weight as fast as I can.

Princess0113 07-02-2008 05:17 PM

my goal weight always used to be about 140-145. that was because the last time i weighed that much i was about 14 years old. i thought i was fat then, and started yo-yo dieting, which i think led to me being overweight in the long run because i developed bad eating habits. also that weight is at the high end of my healthy weight range.

but i recently re-evaluated my goal. i realized that the only reason i didn't have a lower goal weight was because i never thought it would be possible to reach it! but after i started losing weight, it occurred to me that it actually is possible. so i lowered my goal to 135. i don't remember ever being that size.

but if i get to 145 or 140, and i like it, i'll stay there. and if i get to 135, and think i could stand to lose 5 more, i will.

Circebee 07-02-2008 07:00 PM

I was a comfortable 105-110 during my "bikini seasons" in high school, so I added 5 pounds per decade (ha!) and it seems that about 115 is OK for me. It probably wouldn't hurt to lose a little more and actually be able to wear a bikini again, though I can't see that happening without an ungodly amount of working out!

RememberHowToSmile 07-02-2008 07:13 PM

Right now my goal is a healthy BMI. I am actually the thinnest that I have ever been in my adult life.

redlight 07-02-2008 09:02 PM

I've changed mine a few times. The first one I had was 148 because it was under 150. I lost most of my weight, and thought about getting lower but had trouble getting and staying below 150 so I stayed in the 149 to 154 range for awhile. This year, I redeciated and lost more. My official goal was 138 but I've been slightly under it.

One goal I has is to get my waist to 27 inches. I have less than an inch to go.

swae85 07-02-2008 09:30 PM

i picked mine as it is within the healthy weight range for my height. I dont think i have ever been that small though so it'll take alot of work.

MonteCristo 07-03-2008 09:17 AM

When I first started I was going to make my goal weight 150, based on a friends weight. We were close to the same height, and she looked great at 150. However, when I actualy buckled down to the weight loss, I discovered that 145 would be 75 lbs less than where I was, and I like the way that sounded better than losing 70 (I'm sure that doesn't make any sense). I'm sure that as I get closer to goal that it will change. I have no desire to be "skinny", not do I think that my body would go for it (when is the last time you saw a skinny Italian?). I would be completely happy to be a 6-8, and as I'm a 12-14 now at 180, I don't know that I'll really need to get as low as my goal, but I don't plan to revise it at this point.

onesullengurl 07-03-2008 09:52 AM

my goal right now I made 125 so I wouldn't overwhelm myself lol and that is the weight that I would want to weigh maximum ... Like I'd be "happy" not miserable and disgusted with my body like I am now ..

my over all long term goal would be to get a little bit bigger then pre-preggers ... I was 94lbs when I got pregnant with my son ( I know to low) .. I'd like to be 100-105 .....

( I know everyone will say thats to low and blah blah ) but that is natural for me trust me I am short with a small frame. 115lbs makes me look a bit chubby hehe)

basically my deciding factor was the 3-4 large bins of clothes I have upstairs that were before my son was born .. and I realllllly want to wear them again because A. they are cute! and B. I don't have money to buy cute clothes anymore with 2 kids LOL

KforKitty 07-03-2008 10:13 AM

I'm currently the thinnest I've been in 12 or more years. My current goal is just below 'obese' so still overweight. However having never been of 'normal' weight in my entire adult life, I don't think a goal within the 'normal' range is really for me. If I couldn't maintain that as an active 17 year old, I'm not going to be able to as forty-something. I also worry about looking scrawny at lower weights as even at the weight I am now I have a bony upper body.

So I may re-evaluate my goal when I get there and drop it another 15 or so but I really can't see me getting below 155.

Kitty

GradPhase 07-03-2008 10:57 AM

My goal weight is 130 because that was my high school weight before I started birth control and filled up like a balloon. I was really happy with my weight then. If I get there and want to lose another 5 pounds, I will, but I'm really curvy so I wouldn't want to go below 125 - that seems insane to me. Also I really don't want to lose my D-breasts!

mescelestus 07-03-2008 01:46 PM

i choose the weight (ultimately) of 140, because it is the lowest weight that i'm even comfortable thinking about being.

preetyladyserenity 07-03-2008 02:19 PM

My weight skyrocketed as a child. So far the least heavy I can remember myself is 100 kg (220 lbs) and my pictures of that time are not perfect but I like how I look. At first I though I should stop at 80 kg (176 lbs) but it is still overweight and so I though to change my final goal to 66 kg (145 lbs) and make 90 kg (198 lbs) my mini-goal.

I must admit though that there is a level of thinness I don't like (oh and I don't mean overly skinny, it might be normal) so I guess that if I reach a normal bmi and I am happy on the way I look even if it is before 66 kg I will stop.

mayness 07-03-2008 03:09 PM

The first time I decided to lose weight, I basically picked a number (120) just because it sounded nice, lol. I could remember being 120 when I was 13 years old, and felt chubby back then, but for an adult it seemed appropriate.

When I got down to 120, I still felt like I could be healthier if I lost more. Maybe down to 105. (Instead, I re-gained most of the weight. Blah.)

This time around, I'm doing a lot more strength training and have a lot more muscle, so I don't really know what weight would be best. So, I picked 115, which would be my lowest adult weight. But I'll keep re-evaluating as I go. As it is, I don't have a scale right now since mine broke and I don't have gym access until the end of August, so I'm not terribly worried about my goal weight.

Strangedreamer 07-03-2008 03:28 PM

Well..

My short term goal is 215..but I plan to go to 190. I'm a tall girl with a large frame so I don't think it'd look good to go to the recommended 175. I mean my smallest I've ever been was 210 at my current height and I was 13/14. I know that with my hips I'll never be smaller than a 9 so..also, I still want to have some curves left. :)

Slim81 07-05-2008 12:19 AM

My goal weight is 115 because that is the weight when I felt the best. I want it back ;-(
