Smile My nifty little find that I just wanted to share..

So this really isn't related to "support," but I am excited about it, so I just wanted to share it with others. I discovered a neat little spice shop next to my work today. As someone who was addicted to always dipping their food in high calories sauces, I've totally cut that out now that I've on my new-found food discipline route. Who needs the extra calories anyways? And now that it's grilling season, I'm grilling chicken and vegetable and eating fresh salads galore. My neat find is called Penzey's spices- www.penzeys.com - They have so many varieties of dried herbs and herb blends, I just about went nuts buying different ones to try. I tried two with tonight- the country french viniagrette dressing and the shallot pepper and they were amazing! I'm in love with extra flavor (not extra calories!)

So I just wanted to share my new little find with everyone. Hopefully someone will be as geekily excited as I was

Penzey's is great. They don't have too many actual stores, but there are some scattered across the country. Fun to go to once in a while.

My parents LOVE this store (they have an actual store near their house in the Portland, OR area). I have never actually been there or used anything myself but have heard such rave reviews about it, I will definitely have to check the store out next time we visit! Thanks!

There's a similar mail-order catalog/website called Spices, Etc. I love the wine, cheese, mushroom and stock powders. The stock powders, are just dried stock, from simmered meats, no salt or seasoning added. Very bland on their own, they're great to boost the "meatiness" of gravies, soups, etc without adding saltiness. I always found bouillon cubes and soup bases WAY too salty, but by using the broth powders instead of, or in addition to bouillon I can get more seasoning power with less salt.

They also have things like powdered worcesteshire sauce and powdered vinegar (and tons of spices, spice blends, flavoring extracts, and teas and spicy condiments).
