Default Lent starts wednesday!

So lent starts on Wednesday! It seems Easter is coming really early this year. So is anyone going to give anything up for lent? I have already started a healthier regimen for my new years resolution, and feel lent is a good time to get back on track! I have to decided that I would give up on soda and red meat. I had switched to diet soda a couple months ago, but still it would be better for me to kick the habit all together, so I figure by Easter I won't even crave it at all. And as for trying something new, I am going to try out a class at my gym that is yoga/pilates. I have been apprehensive to do it so far, but I am ready to give it a try.

I dont want to preach, but if you can, I would give up red meat and soda forever. First, if you eat 3oz or more red meat every day, your risk of getting colon cancer increases. and soda, diet or regular, is bad for you. If you drink diet, you're not getting sugar and thats good but you get sucralose, which is a known substance that causes cancer. And if you drink regular soda, thats a ton of sugar.

I'm trying so hard to give up soda. Good luck. and remember that turkey burgers are a great substitute if you want a burger.

Now that I think of it, I think i'll give up soda for Lent too (even though I am not religious).

I am 40 something rather than 20 something. But, I do observe Lent. I am thinking of giving up all artificial sweeteners. My soda went a while ago, I have at most, one a week now, usually not even that. But, I like the SF coffee creamer and those flavor packs for water.
By Easter, that habit should be broken as well!
Good luck with your soda and red meat.

i think i will give up red meat too.... it's so high in calories and in fat... i don't eat much of it now because of that... but this gives me another reason to stay clear

also... i am going to try to swim a couple times a week at a local pool once i get my tax return in ($64 for 20 swim passes)

I think that Lent is actually a great time to begin some new healthier habits. (As my mother always said, "It's not always about giving something up, it can be about doing something extra.")

While I no longer observe, 40 days is a good amount of time to try and get something new done, or to abstain from things we notice are harming our lives. I think I'm going to take a look at how I'm living, and try to focus on bettering something that could use improvement for 40 days. Who knows? Maybe it'll be the start of a new healthy habit by Easter!

Great idea, utgirl!
