Sizes

Just curious...
What size are you now and what size would you ideally like to be? Is there a size you've been in the past where you think you looked your best?

I'm size conscience now b/c even though I've lost weight, I havent really changed sizes. I wanna get into the single digits!!!!! hahah

MarinePrincess 06-20-2007 02:37 AM

All through high school, I was 190 pounds, size 14. And I was totally ok with that. I'd love to get back down to there. I'm currently size 22/24 which is ewww. My goal weight of 168 should put me in a 10 or 12 I'd think.

wisher 06-20-2007 08:47 AM

Well my highest size was a 20, I'm a size 14 right now and I'd like to be an 8 or so. I don't remember ever being an 8!

wateraddict 06-20-2007 08:48 AM

I weigh 157 and I can fit into size 13...I would really love to be able to fit a size 9/10. Im going to make that happen dammit! lol.

catsnhorses 06-20-2007 08:57 AM

I am too darn big right now. I would like to be in the normal range even if it is XL. No numbers in front of the XL would be nice.

I never was skinny so I don't know that I really want to be. Part of me wants to be but the other part is scared. (Hello, Ms Orbach!) Plus which settling a goal that represents a huge loss is too scary for me, it makes me go "Eek, I can't do that!" so I give up. I think I need baby steps. :^:

At the gym they pushed me to set a "goal weight" and I felt really pressured and harassed by that.

Right now I would like to be back in Onederland, I was there briefly in 2005... :(

Christine in NJ 06-20-2007 09:15 AM

I started at a big ol' 24/26, which I can't even believe I let myself get to. I'm currently down to a size 14. I actually don't remember ever wearing anything below an 18, so I'm pretty excited about being a 14. (I wasn't really worried about my weight in HS, so I can't remember what size jeans I wore then, but it was probably close to what I am now). My ultimate goal would be to wear a size 8 or 10. This may not actually be realistic, but it would be amazing to buy a single digit pair of pants!

glitterlicious 06-20-2007 09:44 AM

I'm built very strangely. I'm so much bigger on the bottom than on the top.
Right now I'm around a 15 shirt size (maybe smaller) and 18/20 pant size.

At my lowest weight I was a size 11/13 shirt size and 15 pant size...This is probably a realistic goal for me as I have HUGE hipbones. I'm not even just running the "I'm big boned" line. My hip bones are seriously wide. But I can do a lot of work on the booty and thighs I suppose...

So my main goal is probably a 11/13 (L) shirt size and 13/loose 15 pant size.
I think I can do that just because my lowest weight was not achieved with exercise like I am doing now, so I think that will make a difference.

P.S. Just something I've always wondered: Is it normal for taller people to wear larger sizes just due to their height? Because I look at at size 6 and I don't think it would ever be possible for me to fit into it...

kateconfessional 06-20-2007 09:53 AM

i'm a size 6 and 122 right now, but i have a small bone structure and petite, so at this size i feel pretty heavy.

i'd like to get down to my original size, which is 2. i looked slender and healthy at 105-110 lbs.

it would be REALLY nice to be back to a size 0, when i was 95-100 lbs (i was like this throughout high school until college food and drinking did me in, plus i'm growing into a woman, not a 14 year old girl!), but i know that's not realistic.

jennylou 06-20-2007 09:59 AM

I started out a tight 24/26. Now I'm in an 18, though just an XL in the reg dept for tops. It's not like I'm tons smaller on top - I'm a DD, but they fit, so I'll take it. The bottoms, I have very wide hips - I always have, so an 18 is the smallest I can get in pants right now.

I'd like to get back to a size 14.

murphmitch 06-20-2007 10:14 AM

I think it's weird how sizes have changed. When I was at my perfect weight 10-15 years ago I wore a size 8. Twenty five years ago, my wedding dress was an 8 when I weighed 120#. Now when I have gotten to that weight I can wear a 6 and sometimes even a 4. The clothing manufacturers are downing the numbers to make us feel better I guess.

junebug41 06-20-2007 10:22 AM

I was *just* fitting into an 8 (by a thread) for over a year. Now that I am training a bit harder this summer I've gained 3 pounds, but am a comfy 6  I have serious hips and don't expect to get any smaller than that, so I will happily take it! I was a 6 for about 5 minutes when I hit my goal weight a few years ago, but settled at an 8.

Murphmitch- I know what you mean. I may not lose any more weight, but if Old Navy keeps it up I will be a size 2 soon enough!

Brendansmum 06-20-2007 10:27 AM

My heaviest I was 214 and wearing a size 16 and now at 157 I wear a size 8 and some size 6 jeans{Levi's and Tommy}. This is the smallest I've been since middle school and would like to get even smaller. I think a 6 or 4 would be fine with me. I don't want to look sickly thought, we'll see.

NightengaleShane 06-20-2007 11:31 AM

At my heaviest EVER, I weighed 180 and was a size 12/13.

Then, I got down to 175 and wore an 11/12/10 sometimes.

Now, at 165, I wear a 10/11 and can fit some 8's. I like my clothes to fit me more on the loose and comfortable side - not bag lady loose, but I hate painted-on-can't-breathe tight. I hated that even when I was skinny! The thinnest I've ever been is a size 2-4. I'd like to get back there, but a 4-6 is probably more realistic on my frame (medium-large, though I do build muscle well).

NightengaleShane 06-20-2007 11:32 AM

Oh... I must also add that I would have been even smaller than a size 2 during my super skinny/eating disorder days... BUT my hip bones just wouldn't allow it. However, I could wear a 0 in A&F and Old Navy four years ago, since their sizes are bigger than some.

Kery 06-20-2007 11:37 AM

Ookay, let's try to not get mixed between US, French and European sizes... :dizzy:

In French size, I am currently depending on the clothes, a 38, 40 or 42. Which would be... 36, 38 or 40 in Euro sizes... so if my conversion is right, that would amount to a 6, 8 or 10. But it really depends. On average, I must be a 6-8, and more a 8-10 on the hips. (It'd help if clothes manufacturers used the same measures, though. This is so confusing.)

I may still lose one more size, but I'm not sure I'll go lower than that. I don't even know what size I'm supposed to be. The last time I was at my current weight was when I was 11, so... :?:

Yup. For those that are taller, your hips should be bigger because most skeletons are proportional frames. Models that are around 5'11 are normally size 6's (like Gisele Bundchen) and usually at smallest a size 4 at that height. But it will be very very normally for a tall 5'9 person to be a size 8. That's actually quite healthy.

cagesorwings 06-20-2007 12:21 PM

Well the biggest size I ever had to buy was a 14, and that was in pants at my highest weight. I just bought a skirt yesterday, and a 12 seemed to fit me perfectly (couldn't quite zip up a 10). The lowest I have ever bought (as far as I remember) is an 8, and I that was a pair of stretchy capris that I still have in my closet. I'd really like to be an 8, which I know is definitely possible. I think it would be really cool to be a size 6 though, haha but I'll see when I get down to my goal weight I guess??
I am 5'8" so like you guys have mentioned in this thread, I'm tall and maybe a size 6 would not really fit me well due to my height (and I do have big bones)

Certainly confusing, since some of the stores I go to use Euro sizing, so if the kooky US differences weren't enough for me--- now I get completely confuzzled!

I was at a tight 24W to begin with and am now a size 4, but I would like to get to a size 2. I don't think that I would ever be able to get smaller, though, because my bone structure won't allow it.

Alaynna 06-20-2007 12:43 PM

right before i got pregnant i was 140-145 pounds and a size 6....I am now 5 weeks post partum and 153 pounds..i can fit in my size 8 clothes.

i was a size 12 at my largest at 175 pounds...

Casandra 06-20-2007 01:02 PM

I am currently at 185lbs and I wear a size 16. I want to get to at least a size 10, and maintain my weight there.

btw alaynna, you have a gorgeous baby! ^-^

ShellyMae 06-20-2007 01:12 PM

Right now I am in a 24 pants, and 26/28 shirts.....Ideally I would love to get to 14/16 as a mini goal, but I would love to get into a 10/12....

maalisse 06-20-2007 01:20 PM

I'm currently an 11 Canadian, and an 8 US.

I'd like to be a 9 Canadian. Not sure what the equivalent is in US sizes...6? 7?

Sizes are shrinking everywhere! I wore an 11 Canadian back when I was a 125 lb teenager with no arse. X_X According to the measurements on the old Misses Sizes charts, I should be a 14 right now.

Kery 06-20-2007 02:40 PM

Shrinkingchica -- I'm not even sure if I got it right. :) But from what I've found on the web, to get the European size, you need to add +30 to the US size (so a 22 would be a 52 in European, etc.). And French sizes are European size +2.

Hmm, no wonder I'm always confused, come to think of it...

SavingServo 06-20-2007 03:04 PM

I hate women's clothing sizes! I love New York and Co (when I can get my mom to pay for it ;) ) but they're about to vanity size me right out of the store! There I wear a 2, but I'm really more like a 4 or 6 (or 5 or 7 depending on if they use odds or evens argh! :dizzy: ).

It's so annoying. The saddest part being because I have such a short torso what fits me best is little boy's clothing anyways. But on the plus side they're cheap and Target has some really cute ones. :)

At my heaviest I was "wearing" (through some twist of time space that must existed in those pants) a size 9 but I was probably about 20lbs too heavy for them and should have been in a 11 or 13.

I'm actually wearing the same jeans now (need to do the wash  ) and they're too big, probably about a size, but not that insanely big. Either sizes have gotten bigger since I got these things as a freshman in high school, or these jeans have some sort of magic fairy dust in them.

need2loseinGA 06-20-2007 03:41 PM

Hmmm this is a hard one for me. Its been at least a good 5 yrs or more since I bought women's jeans. So I have no idea really what size I wear. I tried to buy a pair of women's jeans several months back but quit looking when not even a size 13 -14 fit me. So I have no idea there. I weigh currently 164 and wear a size 36x32 men's jeans semi comfortably. I would like to be back down somewhere between a 32 or 30.

sockmonkey70 06-20-2007 03:43 PM

Fun!

I peaked out at a size 20, but right now I am in a very loose (falling off and showing buttcrack LOL) 18, but 16's are still too snug :(

My ideal size would be a 6-8, but I know I wear a size 8-10 at the goal weight I have set for myself. I will just wait and see if I feel comfortable at my goal weight, and move on from there.

KnitALisa 06-20-2007 03:46 PM

Right now I'm a 16/18/XL. I would LOVE to be a 6/8/M/S. That would be amazing. But I'd totally take a 10/12/M/L.

Thanks. :) Now I don't have to wonder anymore...

Katytee 06-20-2007 05:02 PM

I wear a size 11 and I weigh 159. I've been down to 148lb (last year) and still couldn't go down a size. I guess I've got too much junk in the trunk! LOL. But really, I am very curvy and was built with a big ol' booty and hips. I'd like to wear an 8, without sacrificing figure :)

helpmelose 06-20-2007 07:04 PM

hhmm right now I am a 16 in pants and large/xl in tops. I love DKNY, I was able to buy a size 14 and they fit really nice but I have an Old Navy pair of pants in size 14 that I cant fit into.

My ideal size would be a size 5/6 in pants and small/medium in tops. When I graduated high school I was 107 so I would LOVE to be close to that same size (which was 3/4) and I didn't not look sickly.

silver plum 06-20-2007 10:19 PM

Why are sizes so confusing?!?

Right now I am wearing 10-12 but have some 8 and 12's that fit as well. Why can't all brands be consistant?
But I guess I would like to be a 8 or a 6. 6 would be lovely but I'd settle for 8 :D

zenor77 06-20-2007 11:01 PM

I was a snug 18 (more likely a 20) when I started. I'm now just into size 10's. I don't have too much more to go so I imagine I'll be in the 8 to 10 range depending on the brand and style. I'm happy with that!

Perhaps it is the brands I buy, but I wore a size 10 at 155lbs 12 years ago and I wear a 10 now at 3 lbs heavier. Numbered sizes don't seem that different to me. I do wear a medium now though, when 12 yrs ago I wore a large.

I have been down to a 4 to 6 before, but that was far too low for my frame. I looked sick and was all "bobble head".

charolastra00 06-20-2007 11:43 PM

Right now I typically wear 16 or 18, but 14 in some Old Navy. I'd love to be down to a size 8 in most clothes. I have a pretty large frame in general and always have, so that's just a realistic look for me. Granted, I've never been that small (I went straight from the kids section practically to a size 10 misses), so I don't know how I will look at that point.

stacylambert 06-21-2007 01:22 AM

At my highest I weighed 243 pounds and wore a tiiiight 20/xxl at old navy. Currently I'm wearing 14/l sometimes xl. I'd love to get to a 6 or 8 in non-old navy sizing. I've never been thin though so I have no idea what I'll look like!

ThisTimeIsDifferent 06-21-2007 09:12 AM

I'm now a size 26 in pants, and a 3x in shirts. I want to be a size 11/12, and a medium shirt. I'll get there one day

Renny Sue 06-21-2007 11:06 AM

At my heaviest I was an (australian) size 22. I'm currently comfterbly in 20s and am starting to get into 18s.

I want to get to an Australian size 12. (I think that's around an 8 American) Any smaller than that and I won't look well. I don't have the shape for it and I'd rather look pretty than be skinny and lose my looks.

janamonkey 06-21-2007 03:52 PM

At my highest weight ever I wore a tight size 14... really tight. I was 200+ pounds. At 173 I was barely wearing a 12 but I wouldn't let myself buy new clothes. Now at 147 I am wearing a 6-8. I would like to just wear a 6!

mrsaugie 06-21-2007 05:57 PM

Currently i am a 14 pants. afrter my son was born i was up to an 18 which was my biggest my long term goal is to be at an 8.:genie: at one point before my son was born is went from a 16 down to a 12 almost a 10.

lilybelle 06-21-2007 06:15 PM

At my heaviest , I wore a size 20 jeans and a size 2X shirt. Now I wear a size 4 in women's or a 5-7 in Jr. Miss jeans. Shirts now I wear a medium or large. I am and always will be bigger on the top half than the bottom half. When I buy dresses, I have to buy a size 10-12 to fit my broad shoulders and ribcage.

superblondgirl 06-21-2007 07:02 PM

I'm a size 20/22, and I'd be psyched to get to a 10. I dream of being a single digit size, but really I don't think that's going to happen - my bone structure is just too big.
