I was playing on a playground with my friend's son (he's 3 and a bit). We were running around and things, then I saw the monkey bars. I've never ever EVER been able to do the monkey bars - I was very heavy as a child and I couldn't get past just hanging there on the first bar!!
Anyway, so I was feeling a bit active and I tried them, and made it across first time! I'm so PROUD in a really stupid way! I think that made my day! Never mind the wedding dress we were waiting to pick up - the monkey bars made my day!
This is not silly at all. In fact you make a point that I'd like to shout from the roof-tops. Exercise is not necessarily getting all the proper outfits and joining a gym or class or labelled programme ... it's about increased activity. If you think it's fun to go to the playground once in a while DO IT! Beats the heck out of watching TV.
That is sooo cool! I admire my 6 year old for being able to do the monkey bars. I never could do them as a child, either. I've tried hanging on them for a few seconds, but that is the best I can do.
Congrats!! Next thing we know, you'll be jumping off the swings!!
How many people can say they are in BETTER shape as an adult than as a child? On 3FC, probably quite a few...but in the general population??
That is so cool! I know the feeling of being the kid who couldn't do it; I've never had upper body strength, even when I was in great shape....you must be on cloud nine!!!
That is GREAT!!
I was just getting ready to post about my NSV that happened over the weekend......went to the park with my daughter and I can fit in the swings again!!! It was starting to get very uncomfortable to go to the park with her and try to keep up.
That's fantastic!
I have a bit of a monkey bar phobia myself. I broke my arm trying to go across in gym class when I was 7. Years later (in high school), I decided to make an attempt on some monkey bars at a playground, but failed to see the logic (or should I say, lack thereof) of grasping metal bars on a very hot, sunny, summer day...yeah, I lost some skin on my hand that day.
As one of the athletically challenged, I'll vicariously enjoy your victory.
