This is a quote from Jillian Michaels - one of the trainers on the show, The Biggest Loser. It is bang on with an audio book I just started listening to called Goals by Brian Tracy. I spent years thinking this sort of thing was just bunk and I spent those same years never making progress toward my goals. I think that each of us has to come to believe in ourselves a little bit at the time - like any change, it is rarely an overnight thing.
"Having the right attitude is so important because thought is behavior. The power of the mind is total — the way you think about yourself manifests as your reality. We all know how easily negative thoughts can lead to lack of confidence, hopelessness, and depression. You've heard about self-fulfilling prophecy, right? Well, if you tell yourself that you'll always be fat or never find happiness, chances are you'll end up fat and unhappy. Hey, it makes sense.
Okay, let's turn that scenario around. Tell yourself that you can get fit and you will be happy. It's that simple. You can master your own fate with positive thinking!"

So simple, and yet how much my mind and my self talk get in the way. But, like other things, I need to just do it! Knowledge and skills are on my side...
Thank you
I need to hear that

It's hard for me to accept that it's positive thinking that gets us where we're going. It's really difficult for me to accept that when faced with food of any variety! But I thank you for sharing that quote, I've written it out and am sticking it in my kitchen as a reminder that I need to think positively!
Beautiful, and I completely agree. Negative thoughts = negative energy. You are what you THINK!
There's that saying "we are what we eat" but perhaps we should revise it to "we are what we think" - is that a spin on "I think, therefore I am"? I've read that lots of trainers use visulization to improve athletic performance... so if we visualize ourselves as eating healthy food, and engaging in physical activity - do we act upon them? Perhaps it is as simple as being aware and in the moment... I know I do best when I think things through and then act... I start to go astray when things become stressful and out of control in my life, and I get off my schedule and it becomes a cycle...
Thanks, Charles, very thought provoking.

That is a great quote Charles - Thanks!!
Rhonda, I think visualization is a great tool. It seems to me that positive thinking and visualization are connected in a lot of ways.
Jac, maybe your faced with the food, thinking how great you'll feel in the next size down will make it look less tempting.
I find when I'm reaching for a goodie it's mindless more often than not. I don't give myself a chance to think about the consequences.
